Sounds like your wallets gonna be hurtin. I still have a box of figures from the original for my son.
I really enjoyed playing the game with her, but holy crap the overhead for this game can get out of control.

I really hope the WiiU version is going to be as good as the other ones and not just a buggy port.
They developed the PS3 and 360 versions of the initial game, which are literally buggy ports.Vicarious Visions is developing the WiiU version, i would be surprised if it doesnt end up being the best version.
No kidding. I'm only pre-ordering the game because there is a $5 discount at Best Buy. I won't even be home on release day, so I figure the odds of me getting anything at the store to be zero.Wish I could preorder the new figures getting released Sunday. It'd make me feel a lot better.
Vicarious only made the 3DS version and the Cloud Patrol/iPhone game. XPEC did the PS3/360 ports it seems (can also be seen on the companies-logos at the beginning) Toys for Bob did the original/Wii game. They developed the PS3 and 360 versions of the initial game, which are literally buggy ports.

I'd be willing to stick with the Wii version if it means I get competent coding.
Best Buy is giving a "gift bag" with misc. things like a poster and wristband. That aside there's not much. Maybe Toys R Us will give something as they have ties to it.Is any store giving any preorder bonus if you get the pack?
Remember reading about it. Seems they can't sell them until next week and is basically for display until then. This isn't out yet? I was at Walmart on Sunday trying to do the WiiU layaway thing and they had the 3DS version.
In Canada, the full starter pack is $25 more. Since the single characters are $10, it's roughly the same value.Has there been any comment by Activisoin abotu why they priced the Portal Owners pack so poorly? Are they really just trying to scam parents and grandparents who will just grab without looking and realizing it's a bad deal?
dat prices!
(hope they will be not that much in US/Canada)
Edited: looking at the Starter Pack, in the info page there is a poster saying "+45 Skylanders to Collect". It will be expansive.... (original game stated +30 and there were 32 + 4 legendaries, not counting the limited editions).
So a recap from the information on that page:
WAVE 1:
Starter Pack:
- Giant Tree-Rex
- Jet-Vac
- Cynder
Giants Packs:
- Bouncer
- Crusher
- Swarm
Single Packs - Lightcore:
- Prism Break
- Eruptor
- Drobot
Single Packs - New Skylanders:
- Pop Fizz
- Frigth Rider
Single Packs - Reposed Skylanders:
- Slam Bam (S2)
- Trigger Happy (S2)
Triple Packs and Battle Packs:
- Chop-Chop / Shroomboom / Golden Dragonfire Cannon
- Pop Fizz / Trigger Happy (S2) / Whirlwind (S2)
- Chill / Ignitor (S2) / Zook (S2)
Let's hope all new and reposed skylanders will be available in the 3-packs (to save money)
Goddamn should have got the Starter Pack, more toys!
So I got this today, anyone want a video?
Do you have the 3DS version? If so, how does it compare to the first game? I can't find info anywhere.
I dislike the price increases for single and triple packs. $8->$10, $20->$25. Though the price of singles doesn't surprise me since most retail stores were already selling them for $10 (the price also eventually increased from $8-$9 on Amazon). With the added bonus of being forced into purchasing S2 characters with any bundle/pack, I will probably end up buying a lot less this time around.

Okay, I changed my pre-order from portal owner's pack to the full starter. I'm paying $17 extra just to have Jet Vac four months early. I have no use for the extra portal or Cynder.
I bet there are going to be a lot of "portal only" listings on Ebay in the future.
Pretty much but I'm seeing if it's gonna be easy for me to sell my old ones without losing that much. I like how the new ones look more for some characters.
Will S2 characters will work on the old game (excluding the new characters)?
Planning on ignoring the reposed figures and picking up the Giants, LightCore and Legendary figures this time out.
For those in the UK, all three Wave 1 Giants can be pre-ordered from play.com for £12.99. The cheapest I've seen them anywhere.
Series 1 figs = work in both games.
Series 2 figs = work in both games, though new power is not available in SA.
All new figs (inc Giants) = only work in Giants, do not work in SA.
Same here in terms of the figures; I will then probably sell my Series 1 figures for which I have LightCore equivalents.
I looked on Play and couldn't see the Giants there; any links (or is it a banned site here?).
I'm hoping the paint jobs will be better this time around, and also that Punch Pop Fizz will get a single pack release down the line. Hopefully we won't get screwed out of things like Red Drill Sergeant, Sidekicks, Flocked Stump Smash, etc.
Also a little gutted that Sainsburys have only despatched my PS3 version and not my 3DS, but given that I got both for £30 apiece or thereabouts (Portal Owner sets), I can't complain.
I really hope the WiiU version is going to be as good as the other ones and not just a buggy port.
Maybe you meant Wow Pow, but S1 figs also get the new level cap(15).Well Cynder is a S2. So she'll have a higher level cap than the original Cynder.

We're getting this game for the kids for xmas, but I'm waiting to learn more info about the Wii U version before I choose the platform. Is there any info about the Wii U version ?

I changed my pre-order from 360 version to Wii U version. Just a hunch, but I think it will be the "definitive" version.
After having purchased the first one on the 3DS (I sorta liked it) I was really inteersted in the Wii U version for the NFC feature, until they announced that you need the portal also in the Wii U version. What a wasted opportunity, imho!
Nah, try using the gamepad with a figure sat on top at the same time. They made a sensible choice.
The local toysrus has about 4 times the space that they had for last years sets and a load of cardboard boxes with do not sell before October 19th on them so I guess they're hopeful of a large profit. Might go back tomorrow to see if the waves are the same as elsewhere as I seem to remember geographic availability being slightly more random last year.
