I hope Team America has some generic Hollywood slanted commercial following the weekend's box office take like...

"THE #1 PUPPET COMEDY IN AMERICA!"

or

"THE #1 FILM IN AMERICA FEATURING PUPPET INTERCOURSE!"

Never heard so many people laugh for so long in a theater before. My friend laughed himself out of the chair at one point.

Just got back from the movie and I demand that my tag be immediately changed to "doesn't like Alex Baldwin"!

I especially enjoyed the fact that the North Koreans characters start out talking jibberish in the beginning and by the end, they speak perfect Korean (except for KJI obcourse). :D

Yeah I'd say Team america was pretty funny shit. Matt and Tray have outdone themselves with the musical score as always. Out of all the star portrayals I liked matt damons the most.

Funny movie, but as an aside, you have to be pretty fucking stupid to not be able to comprehend how that cartoon in Bowling for Columbine is set up to give the viewer the impression that it was done by Stone and Parker.

I can sum up my review of the movie in one word: meh.

It had its moments, I did laugh at the panthers, and the speech, but I never felt I was more then chuckling. I dunno, I don't find gross out really that funny anymore (guess i am desensitized), and just thought most of the jokes that weren't gross out were kind unoriginal and had been done by the south park guys before. The mocking of activist celebrities, action movies, stupid songs, and anything political has already been done on south park, and usually a hell of a lot better.

Oh, and they called Samuel L. Jackson a pussy, and that just don't fly.

All in all though, I thought I <3 Huckerbees was more entertaining, with more of teh funny (for me at least).

Thanks man.My best friend and I, both quite intelligent, didn't get that impression at all when we watched it, which is why I'm surprised to hear that many people apparently did. My point is more about stupid people assuming things they are not told. Whether or not Michael Moore intended it (which I still haven't heard it explained why he would), you would have to be pretty brainless to assume they did the cartoon just because he was interviewed before it. I suppose if they interviewed Stan Lee and then showed a poorly drawn shitty comic, "OMG Stan Lee drew it!"

Please explain why he would want people to think Matt and Trey drew that cartoon. Of all the critiques of Michael Moore I've heard, this is the one that I really don't get. I still think assuming a fact because of two different scenes side by side is stupid, whether Moore intended it or not. :)

It was a selling point for the movie for teenagers. I was a teenager. I was on the fence about seeing it. A buddy told me the South Park guys did a cartoon for the movie about white people coming to america and what they did to the indians. I saw a clip of the cartoon. I went to see the movie.

The movie only made $20 million dollars, so it obviously didn't work that well. :) I'm surprised that a 2 minute cartoon was a selling point to go to a movie, but then, I'm not a teenager, so maybe that's why I can't relate to this whole thing.

I'm not a teenager either, but it's got to be fairly difficult not to understand how a new cartoon from the makers of South Park in 2002 would attract a young(er) demographic to a serious documentary that only made $20 million.

See, I don't understand how it could have. I saw advertisement for the movie, and never saw the cartoon mentioned or associated with Trey or Matt. Therefore, I figure it must have been word of mouth(which you yourself suggested). You really think Michael Moore had this elaborate plan to get teenagers to go to a documentary through word of mouth by placing an interview of Matt/Trey next to a cartoon? That's too conspiracy theory for me.

Saw it tonight. Definitely worth the price of admission. The movie is so absurd that you have to go see it on the big screen, because it will probably be the last of its kind. Some of my favourite moments:

- The slow version of America Fuck Yeah song.

- "The hammer"

- "Promise me you won't die"

Not as funny as South Park, but the songs were better.

For some reason, it was the
vomiting marionette
that made me laugh until my stomach hurt.

Every shot in that movie and every aesthetic choice was a total parody of hollywood action movies. The storyline was completely formula based with the team coming together and then breaking apart and then coming together to win the day.

The Joseph Conrad style hero hitting rock bottom and expelling all his evil to become a new person sequence was genius. Especially the heroic swell in the music during the final gushers of vomit.

I wish they didn't go as far as they did with the actors thing. An actor is just a person with an opinion. They get bashed because their opinion is heard mostly because the media picks it up and carries it for them. If joe 6 pack spoke his mind and got media coverage the same thing would happen, he'd get shit on too.

As far as political message the movie is pretty neutral but it is told from an extremely satired extreme right position.

Very funny movie but I think you really have to have a very good background in hollywood films and their directing and writing to get all the appreciation out of it. The Montage sequence had me absolutely gutted especially the final line and play out of the song.

I don't think so. While it was relentless on some actors and celebrities I think it was equally as hard on the right in some of the most obvious ways. The team being totally oblivious to the fact that they were destroying total cites and civilizations. The whole ends justifies the means but oblivious to the damage you have caused was directly pointed at the right.

That is why I said it was an extremely "satired" right position. The only good team america ever did was killing the terrorists and causing their own version of terror.

I think I take offense to this. In my viewpoint you'd have to be pretty fucking stupid to THINK it WAS done by Trey and Matt seeing how it doens't look like South Park AT ALL.

But that's just my shitty opinion.

The creators of South Park said themselves that they would have thought they'd done the cartoon under any other circumstance. They were just recently talking about how many people approached them to talk about the cartoon that they had done for Bowling for Columbine. This was all brought up in relation to Moore being portrayed in TA:WP.

So yeah, you can go right ahead, take offense, and keep on trucking that shitty opinion.

No kidding. Apparently you can get a streaming version if you have Winamp 5.5 (or 5.05 whichever it is), but I can't "find" it anywhere.

Saw the midnight showing of this movie. My buddy and I were laughing our asses off, along with a group of guys behind us, the rest of the theater was pretty silent. I need the damn theme song so I can go around town blasting it out my windows...

That still doesn't prove that you'd be fucking stupid to not think it was done by them. Just because they had issues with moore and thought that cartoon was done by them. I cartainly could tell it was done in a similar vien, but in no way could I or anyone I watched it with mistake it to be a product from matt and trey.

Maybe you should actually read what I wrote before getting involved in this conversation. I did not say you'd be fucking stupid to not think it was done by them. Though it may seem miniscule in textual nature, there's an incremental difference between what you're acusing me of saying and what I actually said.

Just because they had issues with moore and thought that cartoon was done by them. I cartainly could tell it was done in a similar vien, but in no way could I or anyone I watched it with mistake it to be a product from matt and trey.
In contrast, everyone I watched it with thought it was done by them, and they probably still do, unless they saw that recent interview.

Absolutely hilarious. Going to see it again this week.

I've been signing the "Ameeeeerica.. FUCK YEAH!" line all weekend.

This and Shaun of the Dead are the 2 funniest films in years.

Funny movie. My sister isn't a South Park fan but she even loved it. Great movie, coulda been better though. But worth a watch, and again, Stone and Parker come up with some great ideas in a short amount of time, and the turnaround time on this movie was phenomenal considering all the effort needed to pull off the level of detail they did. America....FUCK YEAH!!! :lol PEACE.

I feel stupid but I didn't get the hammer joke. Is it because he's a puppet and that's the way to take one apart? People made it out to be hilarious in reviews and such, but not one person in the theater I saw it at laughed when that came on screen.

I don't know why you would assume this. The cartoon in Columbine was more akin to the cartoon from Jurassic Park. The style is like those cheaply done informational cartoons rather than a Parker/Stone production. It had nothing in common with South Park or that style or art or humor. Seriously, I think you're in the minority on this one, b/c I'd never heard of this until you mentioned it here. PEACE.

I'd like to think there are better, more sanitary, less painful ways of offing yourself than a friggin hammer, don't you? Especially on the government coin. I think that's what was funny about it. I had a good laugh at least. PEACE.

Because when you're caught, you're supposed to commit suicide. He was saying he could kill himself if caught... WITH A HAMMER.

a) that would take forever

and

b) it would be really painful

The only reason I thought it was Matt and Trey's is because people kept telling me that it was. They must have misunderstood as well.

I think that Michael Moore is always poorly portrayed. Whenever someone is making fun of Michael Moore, they always give him food. I can't think of one time that I've seen Michael Moore eating on camera, or even talk about eating. I don't see why we have to bring his weight into the issue.

His image was extremely satired in Team America. Matt and Trek knew that the most ridiculous way of portraying him would be to make him really fat and stick a hotdog in each hand and have him bounce about.

The movie was funny and all but if you think about it the movie was really at least two episodes of South Park. And if you haven't seen the movie don't look on the spoiler it will kill it for you.

The pro-war/anti-peace episode where cartman goes back to 1776

I wish they had made the Michael Moore bit funnier. I was left confused over the whole thing. Him jumping around with hot dogs got a laugh out of me though.

It is because that is just a ridiculous way to commit suicide. Supposed to be a random funny statement. I love the randomness Trey and Matt use. They have great senses of humor.

the team america soundtrack needs to come out. NOW. i wish it wasn't scheduled for november...

You can get the soundtrack if you look in the right place. And I was looking over the track listing and it seems like the slower version of America! Fuck Yeah! might not be in it. It has a remix version of it so maybe that's it?

Edit: it is on the soundtrack.. It's called America Fuck Yeah! Bummer Remix! FUCK YEAH BABY :D

Jesus that was a fantastic flick. I love the shit out of Matt & Trey, and they succeeded again. I was almost crying a couple of times.

Random thoughts:

-The "surgery" to make Gary look like a terrorist was fucking amazing.
-"Everyone's got AIDS!"
-The news reports were fantastic
-And oh man the panthers were amazing
