Watched episode 5 yesterday. I wasn't expecting that scene. Holy fuck!
This is great. Love Pratt leaving behind his funny guy persona.

I think I know what you mean. In some scenes Reece turns on the charm with people to get what he wants, and Pratt seems way more natural in that mode than in some of the more serious scenes. Great show and good casting, regardless.Eh, he was pretty good other than 3-4 scenes where he sounded weird. It's not that Pratt doesn't know how to act, he does, it's that he's just not convincing sometimes because he slips up and sounds like a comedic actor, I don't know how else to explain it.
Btw finished it, it was a very good show imo but I don't know how they can do a good season 2, we'll see. The fifth episode remains my favorite, that final action scene was extremely badass.
I haven't seen the show but I know what you mean with Chris. I like him but I feel I'll always see him as star lord. Hard to take him serious when he's trying to be serious. Even his serious scenes in guardian are always hit or miss. I think he's better off with action comedies.Eh, he was pretty good other than 3-4 scenes where he sounded weird. What's different about Katie's character in the book? I tried Googling a plot synopsis of the book, but there is a strange dearth of info on it from what I could. I finished the TV series, btw, so feel free to spoil away.If you have read the books then you would realize that Katie is the exact opposite of her book appearance. So far Wu is doing a decent job but I'm curious if they plan on changing the downstream relationship with her and Reece and the family backstory or letting it smolder a bit longer.
Carr has a few 'hero' characters with very specific back stories that mandate certain ethnicities but otherwise they could cast a wide range of people. But unless they change a lot of core details it would be hard to have the bad guys not be some specific types in the later books. Lots of Russian types, for example.
The Gray Man is a one off movie, although I'm sure they'd like to turn it into a franchise. Suppose to have 9 setpieces in it, dunno the length of each but that's an insane count by any action movie standard. There's one set piece they apparently spend months shooting. Wouldn't look too hard here for story...Anyone watch The Gray Man on Netflix? Seems like a similar type of series, maybe a bit more action oriented. I can't even rember if ive read one of those books, maybe I'm thinking of repairman jack...
Hopefully this along with Reacher opens the floodgates to guys like Larry Correias Monster Hunter or Schloss's Laundry Files. Plenty of guy oriented action series out there that shouldn't cost a quarter billion to secure the rights nor cost 30 mill an episode.
I didn't realize the gray man wasn't out yet, I think i saw the ad and thought it was 2 July, not 22 July. How does this compare to Jack Ryan, Reacher, and Treadstone, the other Amazon bourne-like shows?

There is a scene where Chris Pratt is in a military bar and the barman puts Fox news on the TV and everyone in the bar is eagerly watching it to get a news update.Major discrepancy between critics reviews and user reviews.
Curious if the critics are pushing an anti-Pratt agenda or if they genuinely dislike it. I'm going to give it a shot.
The series moves past his need for revenge and heads into anti-terrorism and other things. Think of this season as the origin story (kinda like Patriot Games for Jack Ryan) for a freelance terrorist hunter.Finished it yesterday. Actually liked it quite a bit.
8/10 overall, doesn't need a season 2. Thought they where going to leave the last on the list open, but wrapped things up nicely in the end.

Agreed. I don't normally notice editing, but this show had a bunch of times where the actors' emotions would change from cut-to-cut. Example: Madame Secretary delivers a line where she looks angry. Camera cuts to another angle and now she looks empathetic. Distracting stuff like that.I started watching it and I like it so far, but maybe it's just me, the editing seems to be off. There are some scenes where Chris Pratt's hair is kinda messy and then in the next scene it'll be like neatly combed. And at first I thought it was a memory scene, but it wasn't. His hair seems to change drastically from scene to scene in some parts.
I wonder if these scenes were just spliced in afterwards. Anyway, not a huge deal, but just something I noticed that was odd.
He was killed on Mars. But the movie was good, John Carter was just terrible marketing.Wife and I finished it the other night and absolutely loved it. I loved the duo of Pratt and Riggins. Give Riggins more roles...he can't help that True Detective had a shitty script for him
Just finished it in a day - fucking fantastic show. I had no idea about it until I checked rotten tomatoes - apparently, critics don't like it - what's wrong with them?
This is the best show I've seen all year. It also confirmed my bias that the government doesn't give two shits about its soldiers. A lot of history there to go through but lets leave it at that.
Do yourself a favor - Go watch this show!
You'd think the idea of a corrupt government getting taken down by a rogue soldier would appeal to MSM types today, but yeah, the novel is FAR more dismissive of modern journalists and straight up maligns the Holy Saint, at tbe time of the novel anyway, of leftist politics.I was stunned reading the reviews, like 'did I even watch the same show?'. It's all culture war shit though. It surprises me because I though they stayed away from partisan politics. Carr's novel on the other hand...![]()
Oh yeah, they softened pretty much every character for the show. The book is more violent, Reese is colder, and the bad guys much less sympathetic. This show was great. Chris Pratt was fantastic in this, and it was refreshing to see him in such a dark, menacing role.
A very solid thriller/drama.
Although I felt the revelation of Ben being the one who gave the bad intel to set up the unit felt a bit contrived tbh, considering all they've gone through together.
Not sure if that's also how it plays out in the novel.
Damn, I might have to check it out then.Oh yeah, they softened pretty much every character for the show. The book is more violent, Reese is colder, and the bad guys much less sympathetic.
And it only gets worse if they keep going. Parts of the books are straight torture porn.
95% audience score though.Will watch.
Btw, didnt this serie have awful reviews ???? Like 30% in rt
It doesn't feature any intersectionality or racist shit in it so of course the mainstream don't like it.Will watch.
