Both films are great, but very different.

I didn't care for Cameron going a bit Lucas on some of the scenes in T2 (John Connor w/ Terminator touchy-feely scenes), they feel forced and out of place.

T1 is one of the best sci-fi films of the 80s.

The first Terminator is one of the greatest B-movies of all time--and I mean that in the best possible sense. It's hard to overstate what a kick in the ass the whole police station sequence was at the time, with Arnold casually murdering dozens of cops (including major characters). If it wasn't for Linda Hamilton's unfortunate hairstyle, I'd call it a perfect film.

The second Terminator has a ton of absolutely amazing stuff. But every time I watch it, it feels overlong. Nowadays every single summer popcorn movie is overlong--and also of course not nearly as good as T2--so it's not a terribly huge sin. But it just doesn't have the razor-sharp focus of the first one.

Good thing they never tried to make another one without Cameron, though.

"I know now why you cry, but it is something I can never do."

Cringe worthy.

The Terminator > T2
Fuck off. I cried in that scene.

I would very much like to see a Terminator 1 remake one day, but I'm torn on whether or not there is anyone out there who could do it justice. I doubt Cameron would want to do it and I'm afraid it would just end up being a disaster like 3 and Salvation. Regardless, for it to even be attempted the producers would have to find someone that could stand toe-to-toe with Schwarzenegger in the physical presence category, and unfortunately that is no small task.

Good to see there are more people on the T1>T2 train, most of my friends think I'm crazy when I say that.

But truly fantastic movies, one of my favorites.

Hell no dude. Let the classics stay as they are.

What would the point of a remake be? T1 was very 80s in everything it did, and that's part of the charm of the movie. Likewise another part of it's charm is how B-movie everything is. The film was not meant to be a blockbuster franchise and you can tell that everyone is just having fun with it. This would all be lost in a remake.

I'd say T2 is the superior 'entertainment', what with much greater spectacule and much more overt comedy.

T1 is easily the better film though. Its almost a hard science fiction story, and it so well utilizes its low budget to the ends of being perhaps the best damn gritty sci-fi thriller of all time.
