The Thing Remastered - Release Date Leaked (5th Dec) - Scripted Burst-Outs And Random Infections Removed

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
Before anyone complains, 'removed' in this context doesn't mean they've removed the entire mechanic from the game altogether. They've expanded on it so it's not as scripted as it was before.

Information about the changes comes by way of an exclusive from SyFy Wire, where Mark Atkinson discussed the forthcoming changes. In an interview, the director and programmer on the original game, who advised on the Nightdive remaster, relayed player frustrations, saying, "Scripted burst-outs of previously uninfected NPCs were one of the biggest complaints in the original games."

"In The Thing: Remastered, we removed them entirely and instead made some NPCs more prone to infection, and if they still survive, they are so traumatized they cower down and ‘crack up’" he explained of the changes.

in the contrary, the randomness is the reason why this game is unique at the time
but well, time might be changed, maybe it is the better, or the worse

Removing scripted ones is plus. I hope by removing random ones they meant it as NPCs you tested negative won't just randomly burst into a Thing randomly. Doubt it'll be removed completely so NPCs that got attacked could still have a chance to turn just that it'll prevent even negative tested NPCs who was never attacked to be turned into one randomly. I hope this is what they meant.

I'll be getting this for PC Steam anyway so there should be mods to enhance it in different ways.

I watched the thing for the first time when I was 5 years old at my babysitters house.

Life story aside, I'm looking forward to this.

Is it worthwhile to play the original PS2 game?
I wouldnt before the remake.

It was a decent game but had some issues .
Issues that would be ironed out in the remake.

I'm surprised this is getting remastered. I remember it only from The Spoony One's old game reviews. It looked like irredeemable crap, really only good for a laugh (and it was funny; that video review of his is one of my favorites from that period).

Nightdive likes to remaster forgotten gems

Never played it and depending on reviews, it'll be a Day1 purchase for me..

Watch the movie before playing if you can, it (the game) is a Carpenter approved sequel.

That sounds boring removing that stuff

Again, NPC's turning into "Things" is not removed, the original game had very scripted moments when NPC's would turn, that's what they've talked about removing. So there were no surprises on repeat playthroughs, you'd know exactly when and who would turn.

I will buy it no matter what.
I would laugh my ass off if the thing turns a dude into some tranny with a dick and starts chasing me lol

A monster called The Thing chasing you with a forearm skin protruding vagina sounds like an interesting way to add modern day to a game. Heelvsbabyface may even approve.

I'm all for it. PUT IT IN MY VEINS!

Sounds like a smart change. I remember being annoyed by it's inconsistencies, at the time.
Yeah, there were definitely moments where nothing added up, but it'd happen. I remember just thinking, "well, that was odd."

I still really enjoyed the game. I still can't believe it's getting remastered.

So how was therapy? And just get the remaster. Nightdive is so good in their ports and remasters they make the originals redundant.

Mate do you see my avatar (behind The big diddy lady)? Lol I can quote the movie line for line, its my joint favourite movie of all time along with Alien, hell I stuck it on one Saturday nite drunk when everyone cleared off to bed a few weeks ago... I've watched it that many times the wife yelled down "will you turn that bloody thing movie down" when the soundtrack kicked in with the heavy bass

Yeah I played it in 03 or 04 because I was such a big fan of the movie. Was pretty underwhelmed.
Of all the forgotten PS2 games that could get remastered, why this? Give me God Hand., or Shadow Hearts, or something.

Which makes the fact that you haven't played the game even more surprising

Hope you have a blast.

Also, if this thing is coming out in 2 days, where's the fuckin' announcement?

People are in for a rude awakening when they see that even no matter what tweaks are made, it's just really not that good of a game. And I like NightDive and support them and all, but in the words of the purple place, "This ain't it, chief."
The og game has a 77-78 metascore, it's not a bad score. You just have to get your expectations straight - it's only a remaster of a 20-year old product. It was kinda the same with the recent Tomb Raider remastered trilogy. It was nice to come back to a better looking version with a few tweaks, but I fully understand that people who expected a fully modern product or didn't have any experience with tank controls had a negative reaction.

Even the prequel is just fine
I honestly dont get the hate, it's a damn fine movie and if you watch some YouTubes on it you can see that the creators where all massive fans and wanted to pay homage to the original, even going so far as to creating some incredible practical effects that where later wiped and replaced by CGI by some fucking exec and the way it ends and just flows into the original is just perfection

Going by metacritic scores, nice

It should be a good ten points lower imo. The only reason it probably got a boost is because the team trust system was something that had really never been done before.
Well the userscore isn't horrible either, both on Metacritic and Mobygames. You may not like the game, but it's definitely how it's being received by the majority.

As a diehard fan of the Carpenter flick, I like it, but I just think its a pretty sloppy game. And I get people are psyched about it. It's a niche, cult title and NightDive has been on a roll. People will lap up anything they dish out at this point.
