A short 12 months after launch, Chicago House’s TransLife Center (TLC) is already garnering the attention of some of the country’s most prominent transgender advocates.

Andy and Lana Wachowski, famed Hollywood directors and producers, will host the TLC’s first major event, “TransReelization,” at their private studio on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014. Guests will be treated to cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and a selection of films, as well as the opportunity to explore the 20,000-square foot industrial studio.

Chicago House is proud to announce a brand new special event benefiting Chicago’s transgender community and the work of our TransLife Center!

TransReelization: An Evening of Film at Kinowerks Studio will be hosted by Andy and Lana Wachowski, creators of The Matrix, at their private film studio here in Chicago.

During the evening, event guests will be treated to cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction, and a selection of films. Join us for this exclusive opportunity to enjoy the 20,000-square foot industrial movie production studio. Renowned for its “cleverly sustainable design elements and the best of green technology,” the studio is a museum of Wachowski artifacts, trophies and memorabilia from their films. VIP guests will have the opportunity for an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour the studio prior to the start of the event.

Films to be presented include…

MAJOR! *Trailer* | Directors-Annalise Ophelian and StormMiguel Flores

I Am A Girl! | Director-Susan Koenen

I’m Yours | Director-Chase Joynt

Gender Games | Directors-Veronica Lopez and Meg Smaker

Sisterhood | Director-Mikajlo Rankovic

Black is Blue ***SNEAK PREVIEW*** | Director-Cheryl Dunye

VIP price level includes:

*Entrance to the event for TWO guests

*Specialty martini bar, champagne, cocktails & hors d’oeuvres

*Exclusive, behind-the-scenes tour of the studio with Lana Wachowski

Tickets go for the ridiculous price of $250, and in order to be treated to the studio's tour (which, granted, sounds amazing) by Lana you need to pay for the $1000 priced VIP ticket. Again, ridiculous, especially since in 2011, the price of entry was $65 and they screened The Matrix! I mean this time keeping with the LGBT theme they could have screened Bound!

fake edit: I do not know if the directors of the shorts/movies that will be shown are trans, but by their titles I understand they are about trans people.

Event is over. Seems like guests were treated to a Jupiter Ascending sneak peek.

On display were props and representations from their many films, including the Matrix series ( guests could sit in a Matrix chair from the famous scene with Laurence Fishburne ), Cloud Atlas, Speed Racer and the much-anticipated Jupiter Ascending, out in 2015. The Wachowskis gave a private tour and discussed how they move a project from concept to a finished film—and they even showed several exciting minutes from Jupiter Ascending, with the film's stars racing through the skies of Chicago.

The evening also featured a short film series in the studio's screening room, with a diversity of trans-related movies shown, as curated by Mickey R. Mahoney and Karin Winslow, a Chicago House board member and wife of Lana Wachowski.
