How many Nintendo ips are usually shown when a new console is announced? I believe they showed at least 7 titles with the Wii.

I still want my hype train ticket.

I'll share my seat with you. ;)

-299$
- Fully Online Capable
- One DRC Support
- New Super Mario Bros Mii
- Pikmin 3
- One HD Collection
- Darksiders II
- Batman: Arkham City GOTY Edition
- Assassin's Creed III
- Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
- Possibly more.

I mean, for someone who only buys Nintendo console, this would be an amazing launch line-up.

If online for the Wii U can compare to Xbox Live, then I'm all in. BLOps 2 will be mine.

Who gives a shit about what console graphics whores (lol) think? What we should be concerned about are the games, how much Nintendo will be able to differentiate itself from the competition through other means with the new controller and their online piece.

Most of us just wanted a solid system that is powerful enough to get downscaled ports from the next MS and Sony platforms later in its life cycle.

Last time I checked, BG and others have confirmed the above many times in these threads. What's with all the crying all of a sudden?
I don't get it. It's almost as though some sort of depression spell has been cast on the thread all of a sudden. This place is going to be rockin' in three short weeks - and you all know it!

Imagine Nintendo just has NSMB and Pikminf or launch as first party games, and nothing much in the launch window aside from smaller titles. And it launches at 349.99. And only 1 tablet use at once. And online is missing some features.

This is how you keep me from buying a Nintendo console.

This still blows my mind that there are people that visit this board who still one-console a gen.

Nothing against having more than one console, but I would prefer to own one console that has Nintendo games as well as the majority of third party games. If the Wii U is missing GTA V and any other significant third party game, then I'm going to have to buy the Xbox 3. I don't want that to happen so I can spend more money on games rather than on another console.

My dream launch:

  • 299
  • good chunk of eshop games available day one
  • digital games priced less than retail
  • rpg(s) at launch
  • nintendo HD collections
  • unique and original wiiu games
  • interesting third party games

A lot of us completely checked out of the HD generation, 05-11, yet we still saw how the Gears of War, Skyrim and CoD games looked like in TV commercials. Nintendo is about to pull the curtain up on what the next 5 years will bring and we want to be wowed. We want visuals of a calibur we haven't witnessed before. We want to relive the excitement of E3-2001 were we remember watching IGNmatt playing games like Rogue Leader, Wave Race: BS and Luigi's Mansion on the show floor. They were heads and shoulders above the best we got from N64... Conker, Rogue Squadron, Perfect Dark.

Sony and MS would love nothing more than to squeeze/force/marginalize Nintendo out of the console market, and I will not be supporting them in that endeavour. No offense to anyone, I hope.. it's my own personal take on the matter.

Wow.. dude's airborn! haha!

I think Nintendo should bring back some 64DD features:

Battle Mode: Play against other gamers and swap scores.
Observation Mode: Watch other players' game sessions.
Beta Test: Play sample levels from upcoming games.
Information Exchange: Use online message boards and e-mail with other users.
Community: Swap messages with the game programmers and producers.
Internet Surfing: Surf the Internet with the custom web browser.
Digital Magazine: Check online sports scores, weather, and news.
Music Distribution: Listen to music, some of which was yet to be released in stores.
Editing Tool: Create custom avatars to interact with other users.

They should also revive the Mario Artist brand:
Mario Artist: Polygon Studio (released on August 29, 2000)[1] is a 3D computer graphics editor that lets the user design and render 3D polygon images with a simple level of detail. Supported Peripherals: Expansion Pak,mouse.

Mario Artist: Talent Studio (released on February 23, 2000) is a simple animation production studio which lets the user insert captured images such as human faces onto 3D models and then animate the models. It came bundled with the Nintendo 64 Capture Cartridge. Players could run a VCR, camcorder, etc. through the Capture Cartridge and record movies on the N64. A still image (i.e. a person's face) from a video or Game Boy Camera picture could be pasted onto the characters in movies created with Talent Studio.

Canned Mario Artist software:
Mario Artist: Game Maker

That's my plan for next-gen (mostly). See, this gen I have all 3 consoles and PC. And guess what, too many awesome games are coming out all the time, I don't have time or money to play them all. So next gen the plan is to just get one console (Wii-U) - sure, I'll miss out on some awesome shit. But it doesn't matter, I don't have time/money to play it all anyways. This'll make it a lot easier to decide what not to play. And save me a lot of money too. Of course, I already have a PC, and I buy the occasional PC game (Rift, Diablo III), so maybe that counts as two consoles...

Now, there is one game series that could suck me into buying another console - my favorite games are the Ys games, so if a console-exclusive Ys game came out, I'd be forced to buy that console just for that game. In fact I plan on buying a PSVita the moment Ys: Celceta no Jukai hits the US.

Well that would be ideal, yes. But considering that most likely the PS4/720 will be a noticeable amount stronger then the Wii_U, I imagine the system will miss out on it's fair share of games. Will it be as bad as Wii? Probably not.

Even Pc gamers?

This is the most understandable (if you don't like Nintendo games). You would also be missing out on PS3 exclusives, but other then Uncharted and a small handful of some other games, you wouldn't be missing much.

What about people who are handheld-only?

Well if you only play on the go then not much you can do about that. Honestly I would prefer to go this route but I know I would be missing out on so many great titles, especially retail gaming created in the Western part of the world.

Does it blow your mind that some own a car and some own an SUV and not everyone owns both???

What??? That is totally different.

I respect your opinion, and more power to you being so faithful to Nintendo. They are a great company. But this thought mentality just makes zero sense to me. You are missing out on so much great software..... wow. You weren't lying when you said your stance was similar to snesfreak's.

I own (well I did anyway) two 360 games and no 360.

I see you are still fighting with Burntport for the title of craziest poster in this thread. :p

What??? That is totally different.

Why would you assume everyone at this site would own more than one system???

It doesn't necessarily make sense budgetwise----systems cost a good amount, you'd buy games for more than one system, etc...

Also, maybe some like the direction one company is going and not the other.

Maybe some don't care for Mario and Link while others can't get into God of War and Uncharted.

I think some have said it will most likely be capable of getting PS4/720 ports as long as publishers and developers want to bring those titles to the system. Personally, I don't care as long as it's slightly better than 360 graphics. I'm no graphic whore, so if they port a majority of the games I want to play then I'll be sticking with a console and a handheld this coming gen.

Considering a brand new games costs $50 while a 360 costs $99.... you could buy a 360 and five great games you have never played for the price of three new Wii games. Since most of us will be buying a Wii-U this Fall, I doubt $150 is out of any of our budgets.

Also, unless you are a casual gamer, I seriously doubt you can't find at least a handful of games you are interested in on the 360/PS3/PC while being a Wii-only owner.

I could see this happening further down the road when I married, have a full-time job, and kids. But as a college student, I can always make enough time to play through at least one game a month. Yeah I'm missing out on a ton of games still, but I would rather have the option to pick Arkham City October of last year then..... whatever the Wii had outside of Skyward Sword and Fortune Street. That philosophy will most likely still hold true even after I graduate.

I've been playing video games for 25 years. Graphics don't mean much to me, as I still play NES and C64 games from time to time and have just as much fun as I do playing most modern video games. So if the WiiU only ends up being as powerful as a 360 I'm still down. Stuff like Skyrim looks just fine to me, so having a Zelda or Metroid with those visuals sounds peachy.

Of course, the Call of Duty kids will be upset but who cares? Get a PC. Old timers with families will eat these things up.

It'll be better than this I'd wager. Scary thought I know, but with Ubisoft and THQ all in and likely very heavy EA support, I expect a pretty packed launch window. I expect at least a couple-3 things from Activision too.

Oddly enough, even pre-E3 I get the gut feeling Nintendo might actually have their most packed launch ever.

So my plans to kill time between the end of this week (end of the semester for me) and E3 is to finally complete Mega Man 2. I still have not finished the game and I'm in the last area. It's hard and I haven't touched the game in almost a year.

Aside from posting in this thread and suffering, anyone plan to complete at least one game in their backlog?

Oh, didn't know you were talking about older systems with prices dropped.

I guess I get the systems when they come out if I really want them and if I wanted them at this point or a little while back, then another round of new consoles is on the way and I'd be more inclined to be interested in them.

Plus handhelds and all that but yeah, I suppose you could get a good deal nowadays on multiple systems or a system and games.

It really depends for me on multi-console ownership. I hate paying for online and most online interaction, to be honest, so Nintendo kind of makes sense beyond just the software. However, if my cousin bought a PS4 instead of a 720, I might could be convinced (halfway through the generation) to pick one up. That's kind of what I did this generation with the Wii and 360. I don't really support Microsoft's end goal, so I'd prefer Sony to have the more affordable system with the better (3rd party) library. Wait - I'd prefer Nintendo to have the more affordable system with the better (3rd party) library, I just am unsure about it. Still, I'm hopeful.

Of course, I'll be a really poor college student, so this all depends on that, I guess. I may just stick with the Wii U/cheap games on Steam combo.

I need to complete Red Faction: Guerrilla, Catherine, and Kirby's Return to Dreamland. I'm 90% through all except Kirby, and I liked them all. I hope I get it done. Finishing Digital Devil Saga would be nice too, but I think that'll take a while.

I'll also open Xenoblade at some point. Have it sitting to the side so I finish these others first.
