I just think that Microsoft and Sony won't have anything as big to announce compared as the things we already know about. What can get people foaming at the mouth in excitement like Halo 4 ? Maybe if Rare actually made something people wanted like Killer Instinct or a new core IP. Sony's got a better chance of making more interesting game announcements (maybe for PS Vita), but I doubt they top God of War 4, Last of Us, and a Smash Brothers clone.

Would people be satisfied with Wii U's launch lineup consisting of mostly current-gen ports that look the same graphics-wise along with and Pikmin 3 and New Super Mario Brothers Mii ? What if that Star Fox + Metroid game is real and looks as bad as it sounds ? What if the Wii U only comes in white ? What if we get confirmation of the console only supporting 1 Upad (not that I'd care) ? What if Monolith Soft's Wii U title isn't Xenoblade 2 ? I have faith in Nintendo, but there's a lot of things that can end up disappointing us.

Agreed. There are a few posters in this thread that really don't take well to people criticizing Nintendo. It's unfortunate.

I tend to criticize every company equally if I find faults in what they do, but there are those with emotional attachments that forget everyone mistakes and their favorite companies may do things people don't like. It's not a NeoGAF thing, that's just how it rolls in gaming communities.

I think he's talking about the amount of people posting would decrease since they can't be bothered to go to the community side.

Possibly, but a decrease of 500% of any positive number is a far greater negative number.

Yeah, the community thread for a certain futuristic FPS is pretty insular. I hope this doesn't become that bad.

Well, if each news item originally reported in the Community thread and then copied to a new thread in Gaming contains a linkback, it should help keep the user base feisty and new.

There is a video of the Giant Bomb crew recording their impressions seconds after the conference ended and straight up saying "the graphics looked in between Xbox and 360, like really early 360 titles." One of them pauses like he's unsure of that, then decides to just go along with it and nod his head anyway.

This was both hilarious and embarrassing. Embarrassing because these people are paid for this shit, in a field I contribute to for free. Worst of all I know people exactly like it who too get paid.

Find it and download it I want to upload it to YouTube and call them on it..

Oh, I agree. People need to cut their emotional attachment to corporations.

Agree. I think of the two, Sony will fare better. First, they can do one heck of a sizzle reel. Second - and Nintendo & MS need to take note - they realize that E3 is mainly an enthusiasts' affair.

But nothing comes close to the thrill of new hardware.. mmm..

The only thing that bugs me is the third-party/media conspiracy theories. Other than that I think we are pretty rational.

----

Also, what do you want from Retro, in order of preference:

"Western" Zelda

Something New

Metroid 4

Starfox

The laughable crossover

----

Personally I've never cared for Starfox all that much.

One thing I found stupid about that Bonus Round or whatever was those guys saying that Nintendo should basically not show any 3DS stuff at E3.

Sure, having two different main products can be tough, especially in this economy but the point still is to drive what you are selling and get consumer interest/hype.

With that said, I do think they should spend more than half their time on the Wii U as it has more questions than answers.

I don't think I've ever said anything as blunt as that. To say something like that means certain death around here. Must be some other "crazy" person.

(now, I have said I won't buy the others.. )

Wow, I heard neogaf was the pinocle of gaming forums back then, but couldn't sign up do to not having a private e-mail.

Agreed. There are a few posters in this thread that really don't take well to people criticizing Nintendo. It's unfortunate.

To be fair, there are a few posters who have posted some pretty out-there "criticism." Like, for example, people demanding the Wii U controller have a screen that's as good as products that likely cost more than the entire Wii U system. That's not very reasonable.

Why would you want the PS3 to die? It's a cool system :(

Agreed. The Last of Us and The Last Guardian are my most anticipated titles right now (though I have no idea what the Wii-U line-up is yet).

In fact, my top 10 most anticipated games going into E3 2012 is:

1. The Last of Us
2. The Last Guardian
3. Luigi's Mansion 2
4. Gravity Rush
5. Tomb Raider
6. Animal Crossing 3DS
7. Paper Mario 3DS
8. Good People Die
9. Pheonix Wright v.s. Layton
10. Assassins' Creed 3

But once I see the Wii-U lineup and footage/hands-on of all the games present at E3, this is sure to change.

Also, what do you want from Retro, in order of preference:

1. New action/adventure IP with Western sensibilities.
2. Metroid Prime 4.
3. Donkey Kong Country Returns...Again?
4. Retro Zelda I guess.
5. All staff fired and the building burnt to the ground for even considering a Metroid x Star Fox crossover abortion.

I don't think it's really any different than being a fan of sports teams.

I disagree. With being a fan of a sports team there is a true goal: win. You're able to celebrate with the team and other fans when your team wins. You also don't have financially invest to be a fan of a team while that isn't the case with being a fan of a particular video game publisher/hardware producer. I don't see the two being parallel at all.

Where did I demand that? I simply stated my desire that they include said quality screen. I also admitted that Nintendo's goals and focus isn't based on my focus. But hey, keep on running with that point =P

I like Giant Bomb, but I wouldn't call them the greatest journalists in the world. They are more for entertaining people, really.

All professional teams are corporations too. But then again, most of anything is a product of a corporation, so to be safe I guess it's best not to be a fan of anything.

I agree with the top 3 though 2 and 3 are interchangeable for me or close to it.

Do I have to invest anything to be a fan of a sports team besides time? No. Do I have to invest something to enjoy the product of say Nintendo? Yes.

Giantbomb is cool, but they have no one who can cover Nintendo stuff with any sort of credibility or knowledge over what they are playing. Their Quick Look of Mario Tennis Open was atrocious. They knew next to nothing about what they were talking about, and outright said factually incorrect things. In fact, they are bad for a lot of things, because their Quick Look of Sonic Episode 2 was also terrible.

I love their personalities, but Giantbomb made them live in a bubble, and they are now terribly uninformed about a lot of stuff they cover. I know Giantbomb get a lot of flack for not covering Nintendo stuff, but they really don't even know much of them in the first place to cover them well.

Those who wish to treat human beings attempting to create creative works of entertainment as a sport, where the goal is to root for your competing team in hopes they 'defeat' opposition, will probably find this attitude generates posts of quality best suited for forums like GameFAQs. And thankfully, such posts will result in users given a healthy push towards those forums.

Treating the game industry like a sport with blind allegiances to companies ('teams') is the exact kind of intolerable behaviour that results in dumb journalist fanboy crap that people whine about.

Where are we even going with this? I think the way to sum it up is to step back sometimes and realize we aren't actually business analysts nor investors, so while we shouldn't ignore financial realities, we also shouldn't roundly justify cheapo and unambitious moves on the basis of sales.

You're lucky your avatar is a duck.

I play video games before companies.

But I find that the people who get most up in arms about fanboys are generally assholes, so no one's as squeaky clean as they think they are.

For everything there is a fandom, and every fandom requires investment like time, so even videogame companies have their fans. At least, that is the impression when I visit sales threads where people are cheering on certain companies and sometimes seem to be amused when certain companies do not do well sales-wise. Which is a horrible attitude btw.

I mean, they're not going to cover Nintendo because they don't know, nor really care about it at all. Like I said, I think people expect them to be a site dedicated to game journalism or whatever (which, has been shit anyway for the past few years), when in reality it's really just some dudes playing games and doing stupid stuff. It's entertainment, it's for people that enjoy their personalities and take on certain things about gaming.
