The Witcher 4 has entered full-scale production, CD Projekt has confirmed

NeoGAF's Physical Games Advocate Extraordinaire

“I’m pleased to announce that several weeks ago it moved on to full-scale production,” chief financial officer Piotr Nielubowicz said of the game, which is codenamed Polaris, as part of the company’s latest quarterly earnings results.

“Of all our projects, this one is currently the most far along, and we’re starting the most intensive phase of development.

“I wish to thank the team and I’m keeping my fingers crossed for further progress.”

Game director Sebastian Kalemba also said in a post on X: “I’m thrilled to announce that Project Polaris has entered the full-scale production phase!

“With new challenges just around the corner, it’s the talented and hard-working people who make me believe we can together make the upcoming Witcher Saga a remarkable experience.

“No stopping now! Stay tuned for what’s on the other side of the coin!”

It was announced in 2022 that Kalemba had been appointed to direct the new Witcher saga, which has been confirmed to be a trilogy of games.

He joined the Polish studio in October 2014 and initially served as lead animator for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and Cyberpunk 2077, before being promoted to head of animation for the whole company.

Prior to his appointment as game director, Kalemba also spent 15 months as a creative director.

As long as they've learnt from the launch of CP2077 I'll be in day one. I loved CP2077 when I played it at the start of this year and Witcher 3 I played twice, which is incredibly rare for me. I can't wait to see what they've got cooking.

This is going to take for fucking eeeeeever

I wish companies would just keep it under wraps until a year out max. Worst thing about CDPR and Kojima are announcing things like 7 years prior.
Playstation does this and some people hate them for it. You really can't please everyone.

The most exciting news here is that it seems like the Cyberpunk sequel will come after it. I thought it was gonna be further down the road.

Witcher 4 should be cool but I’m more interested in Cyberpunk.

Oh man. I'd love to see more TV shows & Movies bases on the universe come out during that wait. Have they announced anything new? LOVED Edgerunners.

How are you going to know if they learned their lesson if you buy it day one. I will wait for reviews no matter what kind of preorder bullshit they offer.

Reviews will likely be out before, which is why I'll probably buy on day one... Day two if I'm not sure as I'll wait to see the fallout on here

2 years out max is good for me. But this is nuts!!! Will this even come out before 2028?

Yeah, Cyberpunk will have a new animated series like Edgerunners. Earlier on they also announced live-action project

Man I fucking loved the first game, terrible combat and all. if they nail the atmosphere and world building in the remake they will have a masterpiece.
This remake is outsourced to Fool's Theory, a Polish studio that has a lot of devs who worked on the first Witcher game. If their recent game (The Thaumaturge) is any indication, they should be able to retain that atomosphere as atmosphere and story were one of the strongest aspects of that game. I'm a bit worried about gameplay as that game kinda sucked on that field. But at a same time this studio also helped Larian with Baldur's Gate III and will have access to all of the tools and mechanics CDPR has developed for Witcher 4 so who knows how it will go

Finally in full scale production? What does that even mean? I am honestly surprised this was not already the case a long time ago. What takes so damn long to make these games? Too many consultants? SBI involvement? I almost do not want to know what is going on at these developers anymore. The more we hear, the less I want to know. They can't seem to do anything right anymore. I can cross my fingers all day that we get something even close to as good as The Witcher 3, but I just do not think that is possible in the current climate anymore. This new witcher will need to check off way more boxes than the last game and by time they have checked all boxes, it will be a dull DEI infested abomination.

cd projekt is dead and this game will be a woke disaster. Follow Rebel Wolves instead. It's a studio of former cd projekt devs. They are making a game called Dawnwalker, but it's probably a long ways off.

It just entered full production? I guess we will see the game around 2029 or so. It will be amazing on our PS6s, 7000 series Nvidia cards and Xbox Next.

Well, and if it releases in a good state because otherwise might as well wait till 2030. Although by then one of my kids will be in College and I won’t be able to afford high cost PC gaming! 😲

Just make the actual gameplay fun, not like the clunkfest that TW3 was. I liked Gwent and the quest but every fight was a chore that needed to end.

I hope they stick with the formula with single main character with style like Geralt. This franchise I don't want no super deep customization at all just a well written and voiced snarky badass witcher.

I wouldn't mind making my own witcher, but these days you know how the character creator will end up going. So maybe they should just make a premade witcher, or allow the choice between a male and female or something.
