The Witcher 4 won't be out until sometime in 2027 at the soonest, CD Projekt says

Pre-Production only started in 2022, with full development kicking off last year after they finished Phantom Liberty. So if 2027 is correct that is a development time of 5 years. Witcher 3 was 4 years so it's hardly that bad, assuming 2027 is the release date of course.

According to the update CDPR put out the other day Witcher 1 is only in concept phase at the moment. Witcher 4 is in full production and Cyberpunk 2 is in pre-production. So I wouldn't expect Witcher 1 remake until after like 2030 sadly.
Witcher 1 Remake is not developed by them, they outsourced it to another dev...can remember the name.

I'm eager just as everyone else, but I'm also trying to be patient, what we don't want and what hopefully CDPR doesn't want is a repeat of the Cyberpunk launch.

I suspect a launch date won't be announced till the very end of production, and hopefully we'll get a well polished game.

Fool's Theory is remaking The Witcher 1

The AAA system has failed miserably. It will be almost a decade between two CDPR releases.
They did some internal reorganisation and opened a new studio in Boston, so their output will increase. In the next 10 years, they are planning to release 5 games – three new The Witcher games, a remake of The Witcher 1, and Cyberpunk 2.

They also have two other projects: currently named Project Hadar and Project Sirius.

Hadar is a completely new in-house IP, currently in very early conceptual stages, probably about 10 years away, if not more.

Sirius was being developed by Molasses Flood studio, which was recently merged with their new Boston studio. According to their recent Q1 2025 report, it is still in development.

I think they mentioned that they develop the new Witcher trilogy in a parallels process in order to not take to much between games. So maybe right now they are doing the world that will use in all 3 games, that's why it take so much.

Nobody seriously expected it next year did they? That said, the rate ai is evolving there could be tools within the year that will let them speed run the final leg and surprise us.

Yep, that's my assumption as well. They are doing the bulk of pre-production for the whole trilogy now. That way, they can reuse a lot of assets and reduce development time and cost.

If I recall correctly, the timeline for the trilogy is to release all three games within six years after the release of The Witcher 4.

Seven years for a CDPR game is so god damn long. Hope the launch is at least worth the waiting.

I wonder if they still aims to release the new trilogy within six years, or that is bullcrap to begin with to fool the investers.

Im sure they are avoiding another cyberpunk situation. It gave cdred ptsd

Yeah, maybe dont spend 4 years on pre-production you morons. It's witcher 4. Write some quests, create an open world, shoot some mocap. You literally have the blueprint already, why go back to the design board for 4 fucking years.

Peak insanity.
New engine, you can't prebake good lighting in open world games anymore, textures now have to be designed in 4K, Witcher 3 only had to release 3 versions of the game at launch, Witcher 4 will have 7 if it launches for all current gen consoles including Switch 2.

It's goofy how some developers define pre-production. By the end of 2021, CDPR had 80 in house staff working on the game. A lot of AAA games are developed by that many people. Witcher 3 had a max in studio staff of 250. Witcher 4 is already 400+, 2-3 years out, and will probably be 600+ or so by release

i am assuming u played the game on launch and not after they released the expansion thats why u didnt like it?
Yea I played it around launch, I'll get around to the expansion at some point. But it's never going to top Witcher for me as I generally dislike 1st person and I didn't think the story was that good.
