The WWE Fires Rick Flair

Apparently, he asked for his release. So it's not a firing as such.

I'm just not really sure what you do with Ric Flair in 2021. The obvious answer is that he goes to AEW. But what do you do with him? Have him be Andrade's manager? Because of their relationship that makes sense. But he's such a big personality he can easily overshadow whoever he's working with, like when TNA had him managing AJ Styles and had AJ copy his gimmick.

I would like him to just retire. I would rather have AEW do something with Brett Hart than Flair. I guess you could have flair welcome CM Punk into AEW.

he best take i saw was have Flair Wrestle Sting, like they did the last night of WCW Nitro.

I've been out of the wrestling loop for over a decade but doesn't a sudden and cold proclamation like this precede the release of a video or audio recording of Flair screaming "Woooooooooooo" while walking into a preschool coke'd out of his mind and knife-edge chopping toddlers?

With all due respect to the nature boy, I never want to see him again. He's hung on for too long and needs to retire.
The problem is he seems to be someone who needs the spotlight. I'm not sure he really can just quietly step away. He also likes to live an expensive lifestyle so needs money coming in for that.

I’m retrospect this sucks. When he was on payroll with WWE he couldn’t make a fool of himself. Now we’ll see him on AEW I’m sure.

Man was one of the greatest of all time. To see him come out like a trained bird and do the “Wooo” while trying to style snd profile like he was 20 years ago is sad.

Wrestling sucks because it has no stakes, man. I quit watching WWE after Shawn Micheals kicked Flair into unemployment and then retired himself, now I come back and Flair is retiring again and HBK is looking like that funny uncle at Thanksgiving.

WWE and NXT is enough for me, I dont think I can watch AEW just for charlotte and her family reunion there or Dean or any other persons released from WWE.
It was hard enough to find the outlet to actually see yesterdays wrestling due to the Olympics already.

BUt I will surely be bummed if Charlotte leaves

I can't imagine Charlotte would leave. They seem to love her. She's won the title a ridiculous number of times. And AEW doesn't really feature its women division as much as WWE does. I can see her wanting to work with Andrade but outside of that WWE seems like a much better fit for her.

If Charlotte left the chants of Becky would still follow her.

The only way he makes much difference for AEW would be getting his daughter to switch. But regardless, what in the world is going on in WWE? Someone like Flair should be loving their elder stateman role while their daughter is a featured star.

He may not be able to "wrestle" anymore but damn I can't wait to see him cut some promos in AEW(he's probably already signed with them lmao).
The business is in Flair's blood. He admits he is "his character" and loves and lives it that way. WWE weren't gonna use him most likely going forward
so he asked for his release. Simple as that.

As for his daughter, no idea about her contract length with WWE but I'd bet my left arm she is GONE once her contract expires and she'll be in AEW with her fiancee/husband.

nush: He was still on the payroll?!

Yes. Under a WWE Legends Contract.

A lot of them are like that. A ton of these 80s and 90s wrestlers seem to still be hanging around at senior citizen age wrestling in front of 200 people. I guess they love it, or need the money.

I think Leaping Lanny Poffo is still wrestling. The guy is in his 60s.

Haven't watched wrasslin' since Roman Reign won the belt for the first time, but gotta love that Ric Flair drip.

The hostage video statement:

I mean, he's Ric fucking Flair. He doesn't really need WWE to be successful. He could go to fucking Ring of Honor and be successful.

That said, WWE did help him out with his medical issues, so I'm sure he's entirely grateful for that.
