I remember the first time they showed any indication of an alien creature. That episode is so creepy. Maybe season 2? Flashback to Mulder's childhood.

Showing the aliens always has the potential to be hokey but the point of the series isn't "are they out there", it's "they're here, how can we get the truth out there".

Commercials have nothing to do with the actual content. And what is uneven about it? Swapping back and forth between two time periods with a clear purpose in the future isn't "uneven". On top of that this is the first episode in over a decade. Trying to bring it up to present. What are your expectations?

Give the MOTW episodes a chance. They have the best three writers of the series writing them. That's where the good stuff will be I think.

The shows main story was always about Aliens. Did you expect them not to focus on it in a 6 episode run?

I haven't watched the X-Files in years but, correct me if I'm wrong, wasn't Mulder explicitly dealing with very obvious evidence of aliens in the overarching story pretty quickly?

In the first few episodes, the viewer is given basically explicit proof of aliens, and Mulder literally sees proof, but has his memory fucked with.
