The Xbox 2/360? First Picture Maybe?

Well if that is it, they better go back to the fucking drawing board because those handles are really unecessary.

Even without having this whole thing put off has not the real deal, I could kind of guess that was a prototype of the direction they are headed. Give it a shiny silver finish and get rid of the handle wheel thing and it looks fine. Personally though I was really hoping they'd make it look more like those shiny laptops in that picture. I'm thinking that handle is something they had in mind for the system if it kept that 360 name , it'd need to have something round on it right ?

Agreed, I would think the various different prototypes would share some similar design cues and ideas to the final hardware. I think it's almost certain the final hardware will at least be silver.

My vote goes for webraiding, "leaked" on purpose. This has been a consistent pattern with Xenon developments, I've suggested it before. Microsoft doens't leak all this stuff on accident or due to sloppy security.

I'm still trying to figure out the motivation of why they keep on leaking it, if it is intentional:

A. Test reactions of gamers outside focus groups (not actually much real benefit)
B. Get gamers unofficially used to some aspects, giving their full focus in E3 on the games (I believe this was the reason for 360 leak)
C. Exceed expectations by releasing something cooler (I believe the case here)

Why release a picture that's a dead giveaway of who's leaking it. Either it's someone incredibly stupid or tired of their job or it's some kind of plant. But I certainly hope that's not the design... if it is, then I will be forced to conceal it somehow.

Design doesn't even make sense...those handles on two adjoining sides would mean either the front or rear access would be inconveniently obstructed by one of the handles. Gotta agree with Chittagong, seems like someone is fishing over at MS.

Nice meeting rooms though.

You could hide a couple of big, arched, heatsinks or a liquid cooling solution in those handles. Heat dissipation is going to be a bigger issue than ever next-gen and this design, whether fake or real, looks practical.

SO not the final design. The only thing that disaster of industrial design shares in common with the final unit is the ability to stand it vertically, a la the PS2. Everyone who has seen the final design is in LOVE with it. It doesn't hurt that it's about the same size as the original PS2, only a whole lot sleeker looking. "Elegant." Oh, and silver. :)

I hope that's not the real thing. That is some ugly shit right there, and it will NOT fly in Japan. :p XB2 needs to be easy to tuck away, you cant have that freaky halo shit sticking out of the side. Hopefully it's just an early version, like the old giant X was.

I think the handles look great. Fuck I'd die without a handle on a console.. I can carry my PS2 AND GC on the same hand due to Nintendo's innovative ideas :D

So I take it they want to be better than the Gamecube by having 2 handles instead of 1? Shit, why not make it 5 controller ports instead of 3?

Yeah, it's based off an old article..it was described as more or less like this.
Good to know it's not : )

MS has learned the lesson from Ipod: A device can be sold on the look alone (I'm not saying that Ipod only has the good look, just using it as an example). They sure will try to have a system that people will want to put next to their tv because it's ALSO good looking.
Now I certainly can't tell if they will manage to do it or not.

From what i've been told it should look more like this:

This is nice, but they should lose the green jewel. That was the ugliest and brashest console design element I can remember in recent generations.

True. Actually, they should drop the whole 'green' thing, or at least go for a darker and more 'emerald' green to go along with the supposedly silver chassis.

That was a very quick and very simple render i made following those few infos leaked (made up ?) a few weeks ago. From what i've been told the power button is some oversized backlit green circle...

I hope the Xbox Next PC (and PS3 Home Server) look at least as good as this
