TheGamer: Target and Walmart also pulling Xbox stock

GAF is actually a lot more restrained than other places. You want to see celebration then check out twitter.
I do not want to see any console leave the market but I have seen enough of them go under in my life that I know video gaming will go on. I think the big difference in this one is we have watched Xbox (Microsoft) do this in real time while their fans cheered them on. I do believe there are some people that are "celebrating" because they were being told how Xbox was going to destroy Sony going into the ABK acquisition. I hope most of it is all in fun. I can't imagine how someone could be serious about it even though I know there are some out there that are (on both sides of it).

I'm not really affected either way by the demise of Xbox other than wishing PlayStation had better competition. I hate it for our Xbox bros though. No one likes to see a product they enjoy go down the tubes. Wasn't that long ago I remember seeing some mocking PS5 Pro sales. Folks like Esppiral Esppiral tend to be selective when they wag their fingers in judgement, it would seem.

well xbox is not worth it anymore since MS didnt give anyone a reason, they weren't competition to sony for a decade now really. sony is bad too, they made their worst console ever and have no games for those that want to avoid woke dei infested games. I give a small amount of credit to nintendo, they are the only ones that are just trucking along with their style they always had and didnt conform.

I haven't exactly been singing Sony's praises the last two or three years. I've said before Nintendo is really the only who knows who they are. Microsoft is trying to reinvent Xbox into everything and nothing at the same time. I still have no clue what Sony is trying to do with PlayStation, but there really hasn't been that much "woke dei" outside of Spider-man 2, from what I've seen.

I have been with xbox since 08 and theres no way ill buy another console with them. Im not investing in them when their vision isn't clear and we don't even know how long they will continue or in what form. Ill be buying a PS6

My only confidence in Sony comes from the leaked specs. It looks like they are keeping costs/price in mind for the PS6. That, and they have walked back going all in on GAAS. If they screw it up though, it is on them and I would have no problem moving on to whatever is next.

Never actually owned a console myself — been a PC + Steam guy forever — so I'm kind of an outsider looking in on this whole "RIP Xbox" talk. From what I can tell though, I honestly don't get what objectfully PS5 supposedly has that Xbox doesn't. Hardware-wise they're nearly identical, accessories are basically the same, and both rely heavily on third-party games (there was a topic few weeks ago with the top played games on PlayStation in the last 20 years), . The only real difference seems to be Sony locking down more exclusives and having a stronger brand image.

Yeah, Sony's first-party lineup leans into those big AAA cinematic experiences, while Xbox tends to go for more gameplay-driven, AA-style titles — but let's be real, neither approach is the magic differentiator people claim it is. You wait three, four, sometimes five years for any of these blockbusters to actually drop. In the meantime, everyone's just playing the same multiplatform stuff anyway.

It's funny, because from a purely objective standpoint, Xbox feels like it's done a lot right for the casuals — Game Pass, cross-platform support, backward compatibility — but none of that seems to matter in the console popularity contest. It's like they "lost" more in perception than in actual product.

This is what I said two weeks ago when the Costco news broke - the supply chain drying up is the biggest hint that things are moving internally. Doesn't look good.

Here I was thinking MS was going to miss having their next console out by GTA VI launch window. Now it looks like even their current console won't be in stock to ride that wave.

What is when MS already know that GTA VI will be delayed again and they planing to launch the new xbox with GTA VI (autumn 2026)?
Maybe as bundle.

Casuals buy CoD and FIFA/Madden and play nothing else. Neither backwards compatibility nor cross platform support nor GamePass interests them.

And Sony won because they actually cared about markets other than US/UK.

Microsoft once again showing that they have no idea what they're doing.

Yes, let's release new Xbox branded handheld just as all of our other Xbox hardware is being pulled off of shelves. That's going to make consumers very confident to buy into our ecosystem.

It's not so much celebration as it's more "I told you so".

Yeah its funny that we actually saw it coming and we were called warriors because of our common sense analysis

  • Gamepass affects game sales
  • Gamepass is not sustainable
  • Retailers has no incentive to stock Xbox hardware because they don't sell software.
  • MS going 3rd party
  • MS forced to ditch the hardware because no one is buying them
  • MS ditching Gamepass soon because its not profitable.

The writing is on the wall. And people were in denial until reality hit them hard in the face. We told you so :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Doesn't surprise me. Physical game presence has been dwindling at brick and mortar stores even for the popular consoles.
There's the predictable, low effort, "SonyToo" response I figured would show up eventually.

My local Walmart pulled Xbox consoles years ago, as I've mentioned here a few times. As of grocery shopping yesterday, they had several PS5 Slim (both disk and digital), multiple PS5 Pros, a whole shelf of Switch Lites (both blue and turquoise), the white Switch OLED, and both the basic Switch 2 and Switch 2 Mario Kart bundle.

So, no, this isn't a "SonyToo" or "NintendoToo" issue. Neither of them are having their entire product lines and all their physical games pulled from multiple retailers internationally.

I was just at Target just last night and noticed this. There is a small Nintendo and PS section but the Xbox section is basically gutted.

You are arguing with yourself.

This is so sad. The console itself specifically the Series X is a great console, better than the PS5. Management killed it to the point of no return. At least Sega died on it's shield.

Constantly increasing game pass price, no exclusive, two console price increase, lies after lies. Why would any sane person buy it? And why would any sane retailer stock it? I'm not shock but disappointed.

I fell like this might be some kind of deal to do with the handheld.

You think they're voluntarily pulling all of their console hardware off of shelves so they can sell a handheld that's part of a product category that has sold maybe 8 million total lifetime units across all brands (Valve/Lenovo/Asus/Zotac/MSI/etc..)?

I don't know what is more sad seeing the demise of Xbox slowly dying or how many gaffers are celebrating...
I dont play nintendo games anymore and dont intend in the future, but if Nintendo went out of business would be a huge loss to gaming since they are excellent for their fans and what they propose to do, I would be genuinely sad.

MS and Xbox ? Those fuckers never brought nothing of real value and tried to implement scorched earth tactics when things went to shit ... so yeah.. Im going to celebrate.
