And just because it's so good, and everyone needs to listen to it, I'm going to actually discuss why you should listen to this next record:
Jennifer Gentle -
Valende
Woah holy shit. I was told "Listen to this, Zack, you will love it." And, oh, love it I do. Jennifer Gentle is a psychedelic folk/pop/anything else band from Italy. This is their third record, and it was recently released on Sub Pop, so it shouldn't be all that hard to find. The album is a cacaphony of sounds, noises, great hooks, recorders (!!!) and all around awesomeness. The first couple tracks are super fun whimsy pop tracks, and then from there it just kind of grows. It gets way more dense and big and less reliant on verse-chorus-verse songwriting. Listening to the middle stretch of tracks reminded me a
lot of the Books. The end of the album is just killer, the last minute of the last track made me sit there slack jawed. Seriously, dudes. Most of you don't buy records anyway, listen to it at the very least. It's like $12, go buy it. Or better yet, they're touring the US (with Dead Meadow) in the near future-- go see them live.
Here's a sample track:

It's one of my favorite tracks, but it doesn't tell the whole story. Listen to it, crave more, and check out the record.
It definitely gets my stamp of approval.
