🎮🧑‍💼💥 Phil Spencer is NOT retiring! ❌👋

🚨 A rumor started by a Call of Duty leaker claimed Phil Spencer would retire after the next-gen Xbox launches, and that Sarah Bond 👩‍💼 would take over as Xbox CEO.
📢 BUT Xbox's comms boss Kari Perez said clearly to The Verge:

"Phil is not retiring anytime soon." 🙅‍♂️🛑
💬 Microsoft's Frank Shaw also called the rumor:
"Made up." 🧢💨

⚠️ Meanwhile, behind the scenes… 🏢🔥

💔 Microsoft laid off ~9,000 employees 😢✂️
💣 Big Xbox projects like Perfect Dark and Everwild got cancelled ❌🎮
🧩 Studios like ZeniMax, Turn 10, and more were hit hard 💔🏗️
Microsoft says that Phil Spencer, Microsoft Gaming CEO and the head of Xbox, isn't retiring "anytime soon." The company has responded to rumors of Spencer's retirement, which have spread online today following Microsoft's major layoffs.
"Phil is not retiring anytime soon," says Kari Perez, head of Xbox communications, in a statement to The Verge. The denial comes after Call of Duty leaker GhostOfHope claimed "Phil Spencer will be retiring from his role as CEO of Microsoft Gaming after the launch of the next generation Xbox" and that Xbox president Sarah Bond would be taking over as CEO of Microsoft Gaming.
While Microsoft's comment doesn't address the rumor fully, it makes it clear Spencer isn't retiring imminently. Separately, Microsoft communications chief, Frank Shaw, took to X to claim that at least part of the rumor was made up.

Of course not. He "will finish the fight" of making Xbox the biggest third-party and most profitable gaming company in video game history, and by the looks of it, he's doing an amazing job. Rumors say that the next Xbox will be called:
The Phils' Spencer soapbox

Imagine finding a company that's paying you big bucks while not firing you regardless of how much you keep fucking up for a decade and then quitting yourself.

Confirmed: Next generation Xbox is not "anytime soon"

If he continues to age at the rate he's going, he won't be around in ten years at all.

Of course, same could he said for Xbox itself.

He's basically set for life. Regardless how we may feel about him, he'd be a fool not to take advantage of that. Even if it may be stressful for him.

Maybe closures and layoffs and seemingly moving away from consoles was always the plan. Part of job of sport league top guys is being a lightning rod to protect the owners from backlash. Their roots are software after all.

He needs a great marketing team, GamePass is a good start for the revenue but the brand identity is all over the place.
