TheVerge: The Epic Games Store still isn’t profitable. It

Makes you wonder what those 800 employees who got laid off were doing. Should’ve had them make the store better but nope, they wanted to take shortcuts and moneyhat.

Thats some blurry numbers then, since fortnite is on the store and generates a bazillion dollars an hour. Somehow fortnite revenues don't count?

Judging Epic from a purely functional view: where are the forums? Where can I read about updates? All those billions and they can't just copy Steam?

Don't give a shit about whatever vendetta the gaming community has with Epic but their store is simply inadequate compared to Steam.

You just cited the root cause of said vendetta bro.

The problem is Fortnite was generating a bazillion dollars even before it was on the store. They could ditch the store and go back to just having the game on a launcher and they'd actually make more money than they do now.

Epic realized they had a real problem on their hands: they went from making almost all of their money from Unreal Engine to making 30 times as much from Fortnite alone. On one hand that's a blessing, since it allowed them to hire more people, buy studios and expand their business. But it's also a curse, since they are now completely dependent on Fortnite. They simply can't sustain themselves at their current size without it, so they're desperately looking for other ways of making money before Fortnite starts declining. That's the only reason the EGS exists. It needs to be profitable independently from Fortnite, that's the entire point.

I get that, just seems a bit disingenuous to say it loses money while still spending tons of money on free games /expansion and on the back end really have tons of cash flow from the same said store, regardless of which game its from. Also it can't really cost that much to keep that store running at this point.

Don't know if they do already but they could give V-bucks credit for when you buy a game on the Epic store. That might make all the kiddys who play fortnite actually play something other than fortnite and play it on this store.
