First thing I thought also when he caught that ball "that must have stung". You can hurt yourself even with a glove on if you don't catch it in the right spot.

Solid frame too. Doesn't move the hand at all, makes it look like a strike for the booth ump. The less movement the more likely you get that pitch called a strike.

Sweet grab. Both the hands and the camera shot. I don't have big hands, so I'd never try to bare-hand one. There's a lot of palm involved in that. Even when you've got a mitt on, getting a lot of palm on the ball can sting a bit. That's why you try to get it in the webbing.

What's really nice about that grab is that the ball was probably spinning a lot, due to the glancing shot off the bat. That ups the difficulty factor on bare-handing it so effortlessly. I tip my cap.

EDIT: Watching again, he doesn't actually use much palm. Got it in the thumb-finger ring, with the middle and ring finger as shock absorbers. Good technique. If it was me, it would've hit bone and fallen to the ground, leaving me with a nice stinger and look of shame.
