This is by far the best DS game (rant/impressions)

It's sad! I own a DS, and as a machine, it's great... serious potential. The software sucks though, I mean... Mario 64 is good (not great because of controls) and the other games are shit (havent played FtM which is supposedly good).

The Minish Cap has provided my DS with purpose, wow this game is amazing. My favorite game of all time is Link to the Past so this game was a must for me. I bought it nervously (as I usually do when I buy games), I played it for about 10 minutes and was dissapointed... I dont know why, I was just underwhelmed. I picked it up today, got into the first shrine, and instantly remembered why I was so in love with the Zelda series. This game has great puzzles, and really uses the power of the GBA (or in my case, the DS) to bring back Link to the glory days.

Please, buy this game!

MR. DRILLER! >:0

I'm semi-dissapointed by Mr. Driller.

The only problem I have with Feel the Magic is that you can't play it in public without getting some weird stares.

I played Minish Cap until I got bombs. Then I used all those bombs, and I can't find any more to progress in the game. I haven't played for days. :(

Yeah I have been playing it too. My first ever 2d Zelda game! (played all the 3d ones) I am finding it quite difficult in the overworld and am getting stuck quite a lot. I have done 2 dungeons so far and they are definitley the best bits as I dont get stuck in them! My GBA will do me fine until there are a couple of DS exclusives worth getting.

I just finished the game this weekend.
And yeah, the Gust Jar that you get in the first just dungeon just shows the potential. I love that they just ran with it too.
The details in the graphics and the gameplay make it shine. Try all kinds of items on all kinds of objects and enemies... it's just as rewarding to experiment as in any other Zelda, if not more so.

Keep going because it gets better!

After you beat that, buy ALttP. You'll have much more respect for the series if you realize how amazing the 2D games are (LttP probably being the best of them). Just be prepared for some difficult times, because LttP makes every 3D Zelda game (and Minish Cap) look like weaksauce from a difficulty standpoint. And it's not that it's even that hard; but you'll ACTUALLY die in LttP, I promise you.

Minish Cap is the first Zelda that I've been compelled enough to do all the side-quests and take my time.

Haven't gotten stuck yet, and I'm a good 10 hours in ... I don't see how you can get stuck in MC, they don't spoon feed you clues, but they certainly throw all manner of hints at you...

But then again, this is probobly a lot of people's first 2d zelda .... I played LttP for the first time 3 years ago, and MC is stacking up very well compared to it : D

And yea, it sure is bright, vibrant, and loud on my DS

Zuh? I thought LttP was easy...

Anyhoo, if you like the 2D Zelda gameplay, you should consider playing the Oracle of Seasons/Ages duo.

But, I thought that Nintendo's DS was the future of game controls? So easy that mom or grandma could get into gaming?

This little testimony would've come in handy however many weeks back when the forums were ablaze with talk about the control issues with the DS.

This is one of the drawbacks to having the two handhelds out at once while the SP is still very viable, and just one more reason for me to wait for the PSP. As for Minish Cap, I'll have to watch the thread and see how everyone likes it.

I think the new games made me soft. I had no trouble with ALttP the first time I did it years ago, but I began playing again recently and just found myself dying an awful lot. But I enjoyed that. QUARTER HEARTS BE DAMNED!

more like, he should play Links Awakening.

I bought my DS on launch because I never doubted that it would eventually have a crapload of awesome games for it.

It also kicks the shit out of the GBA SP when it comes to playing back GBA games. That, however, was an unexpected bonus.

The honest truth is that the NDS hasn't quite justified itself to me yet. It's been a slow launch, post-launch period. I'm happy with the Metroid demo, Mario, Feel the Magic, and Mr. Driller, and am greatly anticipating Rayman DS, Castlevania AoS 2, Advance Wars, Meteos, and Wario Ware Touched. But as a stand-alone new portable, it doesn't have much going for it just yet. I'm used to slow software periods after hardware launches, however, so I'm patient, and I don't regret my purchase. I know it WILL have lots of the games I REALLY want well before it'll significantly drop in price.

I'd like to add, now that my Zelda Minish Cap has (finally!) arrived, that the release of a new Zelda game is effectively the closest thing to a religious experience! Woo! :lol

Of course, everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but I honestly don't see the huge problem everyone has with the controls in this game. Sure, the DS lacks an analog stick, so the movement isn't quite as smooth and satisfying as it once was. But I'm playing with the little ol' D-Pad and still having a great time. This game deserves more credit.. I believe people have forgotten how much Mario 64 kicks ass.. not to mention these new mini-games.. :D

It's a good game, and the controls fit the purpose, but it gets a little sketchy at times, especially on tight platforming areas. Hopping back on that gondola off the floating island in Cool, Cool Mountain was basically trial and error, as I was never certain I would get it right.

I do agree with what you said.. the controls aren't quite as "precise" as they once were.. but, like I said, I feel that the mini-games, improved graphics, multiple characters, added multiplayer mode, etc. all make up for slightly less great controls. :D

It's funny that Minish Cap comes out just after the DS, just like the Oracle games came out just when the GBA arrived. Zelda just can't quite make it onto a handheld in its prime.

Yeah, I'd say so. The controls take a few points off, but all the little additions add up to make it more than just a boring old direct port.

It may have been a strategic way to keep the sales of the GBA up when the DS came out though

Yeah I got a DS, and I have only been playing Zelda Minish Cap and Advance Wars 2 on it...

Minish Cap (so far) is awesome, I am almost done with the 3rd element I need, I heard the game is a bit short, which will probably dissappoint because you never want a good game to end, but I feel that the secrets and the kinstone stuff might make it worth extra exploring which is fun.

The game is fantastic, I think everyone should own it if they enjoyed LttP.

The real joke of this thread is that Minish Cap would probably be "by far the best XBOX game" if it was released on that system. :lol

Just boguth Advance Wars 2 yesterday to play on my DS. Loving it already (I needed a new Advance Wars hit! - still feel there was so much left to do in the first though...even though I unlocked all the characters, and opened up all the war room levels).

i don't know what people were saying that Advance Wars 2 is the same, technically. The graphics are changed on the map - the buildings and trees are now less detailed and more faint (and on the DS, as beautiful as the screen is, it enhacnes this paleness). Sure, probably a designer choice, so the units stick out more, but one that makes the game overall look less good. Animation and character art are still top notch though. I welcome the addition of voice, and the new building types. Super CO moves and the new units don't seem to have added THAT much - still waiting to see if it has upset the balance of things (which were damned near perfect -so hard to get right for a strategy game, especially first time around).

Is it me, or is Eagle vastly downgraded? his lightning strike has been moved to Super status, and if the instruction book is right, it only affects units that have been set to 'wait' (i.e. no double attacks).

Wrong. Still double attacks.

Drake is pretty tricky to use in AW2.

His naval units don't have higher attack than other COs' naval units, but they do move one extra space and have higher defenses. He's a tricky CO to master, imo.

Hawke = :(

Totally wreaks havoc.

Um, I love LTTP too, I think it's the best Zelda game, and a game whose quality is near-perfect, but you must be kidding if you think any of the dungeons in LTTP are as hard or harder than the water temple in Zelda 64.

???

The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening
original: 1993 (the year after SML2 and before SML3)
DX: 1998 (around the same time as the GBC debut, right?) *pokemon craze era

...and it's still the best Zelda game. Minish Cap is definitely close in many aspects, though.
