Can't believe I'm saying it, but America could should learn from China's example.
considering how they reacted to the SARS epidemic, i think the US has nothing to learn from China in regards to emergency planning.

Natural disasters in this region of the world could have wider impact. Imagine what would happen with the combination of this, Avian Flu, and a mutation with human flu. Follow it with a load of tourism and bird migration for the ultimate death recipe and leave to stand for 1 minute. Reseal and reheat. World. Wide. Disaster.

It'd be horrible.

There was a SARS epidemic?

It was overdramatized by the media IMO, and although there was a big scare, nothing really happened (at least in the Beijing area, my parents were there at the time, dust mask wearing went up, but that's about it)

the chinese answer to SARS was to suppress information about its spread and impact throughout its provinces, allowing the disease to march silently throughout asia. it remained silent on the issue for nearly five months after the first reported outbreak until they begrudgingly allowed WHO to investigate within its borders.

RIP 10 or so people :(

more like 6-700, the majority of which would not have happened had China opened an official and public inquiry before the disease was able to spread throughout Asia.
