THIS IS THE YEAR!!!!

For the last Decade Phil Spenser has been touting that he hears us. That next year is gonna be the year games come to Xbox.

We'll ladies and gentlemen that year is finally here. Xbox/gamepass are absolutely killing it with quality games releasing in the last 12 months.

Unfortunately it seems to have come to late. Xbox hardware sales have all but died.

I can't help but think if Microsoft had been able to get this quality and release shedule going when series x/s released, and kept all these games exclusive to Xbox/gamepass then Xbox would be dominating console sales and Phil would be hailed as the hero we all thought he was.

Thoughts?

The problem is the $70 billion purchase that led to actual game releases also triggered the 3rd party move. Either way, the games weren't going to be exclusive though phil and greenberg let you believe that for a minute there.

Who has problems with this? Microsoft? 🤣

If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry fuckin Christmas.

Seriously though, yes if they bought everyone and made it exclusive Xbox would thrive. Governing bodies had some choice words for they though. So they went the big 3rd party publisher route instead.

I still don't think it would be enough, because I do question if they will even keep up the cadence of this year, and they always make decisions that go backwards.

Microsoft could've been the 'value' brand in the gaming landscape, but they just increased their console hardware prices so now the PS5 Pro is a better deal. They have the most cash to weather the tariffs, and keep prices the same...but they choose to hurt their already weak position.

Game development takes a long time. This is no longer an industry where games are made in 12-24 months consistently.

Where are you getting all of these quality titles? Really all they have had is Indiana Jones which is good but not great.

Xbox started killing themselves in 2016. They royally fucked up their reveal in 2013 after a monster of a console generation (say what you will about their output in the later years of the 360 but the 360 was great overall) which had them starting their generation off poorly. Then in 2016 they decided to kill exclusives in one of the worst times to do it because they were losing.

Xbox should have always focused on exclusives especially since we all know Microsoft (the company that ate $1B a year to get into the industry) could have ate profits to weather through a rough time.

Game Pass is just simply another move to try to adapt to losing. Unfortunately it didn't really help them and now they have a service that they are basically forced to support for the foreseeable future.

The problem didn't start recently it started 10 years ago in the same generation we had high ranking people talk about just killing the brand altogether.

Playstation fanbase just wants PS. Period. Nothing would change.
What exactly do you mean by this? Genuinely curious.

Why is every thread on this fukin forum is about phil spencer? Do you guys beat off to him?
Phil has always had this weird cult like following around him with a certain group of people.

Problem is most the "quality games" coming to other platforms which most people play it there instead of on Xbox.

If I remember correctly Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was announced on xbox showcase but I got bought for my PS5, I have zero reason to buy Xbox.

I willing to buy Nintendo systems because it has games I dont want miss out and doest come out in any other systems.

Having "cult following" over CEO is fucking weird to me.

I follow my favourite creators like Yoko Taro and George Kamitani because they are the ones making favourite games but whats people obsession with CEOs?

Seemed pretty self explanatory. Sony brand loyalty trumps anything MS could do. They're making the right decision with their pivot. Consumers don't reward competitive services, hardware prices or games anymore. They're locked in. Period.

Gotcha

Oh I agree that they are absolutely making the right decision. They even said it themselves that they fucked up the worst generation to fuck up.

I don't think GP was ever going to be the thing that would help them win back some territory like Microsoft wanted it to be.

They are basically in a position where they have to go third party to sustain everything especially after their spending spree to buy talent.

Phil finally gets his year and Satya made him put all his stuff on playstation.

You don't get movies as good as this.

Quality over Quantity. What Xbox game this generation has been amazing? This year, they will have 8-10 decent games. Doom the Dark Ages will probably end up being their best game at an 85MC. Xbox has yet to produce a game this generation that is "Must Have"

Buddy, uncle Phill has been trying to be a hero for what, 10 years now? It's time to accept the truth: Microsoft sucks, Xbox sucks and Phil Spencer sucks.

They're a tasteless, soulless, clueless megacorp blob that tried to bruteforce what can only be achieved by good will and now they're paying the ultimate price.

It's over.

The "problem" is that MS only has games with same the event that also turned them third party, so OP's scenario is a paradox.

If they would have only held out a little longer they wouldn't have needed to give up like they did. It just does to show, never quit.

Nintendo didn't quit during the Wii-U and look at them now. No excuse for Xbox to just give up and capitulate completely but here we are.

I not only regret my XSX but I feel like I was sold something under a false premise.

Its been a great year for xbox…
Just not for the console itself.

I wasnt planning on buying one before, I'm definitely not buying one now after the $100 price hike
