What is this young boy a product of? This child ain't even fucking 10 and he talking getting money. Why isn't he talking about having a business or an education, isn't that a problem?

And fuck his mom because she aint shit. Prostituting her son because she wasn't shit in her life. Instead of Lil Wayne telling black men light skinned women look better than dark skinned women, that bitch ought to be shaming men that leave their families but will he? Will any of these fucking parasites called rappers give back to the community they came from?

Edit:
If you come from the Rakim or WuTang era, how the fuck can you with a straight face say hiphop now is ok? How can you as a listener listen to someone telling you how poor you are? Maybe people like to fantasize about being Rick Ross but I think too many people in the world are fantasizing. Art is suppose to imitate life, not the reverse because when you try to imitate art you become delusional.

They did glorify it yes but it wasn't over saturated. Plus, with every one Wu Tang lyric about just making money or bull, you had 20 different rappers talking real shit.

And people are telling you for every Lil Wayne song there are tons of dudes talking about 'real' shit. You just don't listen.

Hey! Leave Wu tang alone!

I don't listen to Ross or that ilk very often but its bragging right... I mean the Wu's lane wasn't glamourous bragging rap

part of the problem is some people believe everything some of these rappers say and subconsciously start mimicking them... A problem when women drugs and money are routinely glamourised without the downsides addressed

Not the rap group those ol misguided black kids want...but the one they need. All black kids need to stop chasing money and start making their own businesses...to make money (wut).

Where is other intelligent rappers like Macklemore, Eminem, and other saviors? Remember the 90s when everything was wholesome and good like.

NWA
Ice Cube
Bone Thugs-N-Harmony
Naughty By Nature
Eazy E
Three 6 Mafia
Biggie
Tupac

Those guys made wholesome music you'd play at Farmer's Market, Starbucks, Whole Foods, Jane's Yoga. Rap nowadays is bad except great artists like Macklemore, Mac Miller, Eminem, etc.

aaaaaand no , missed the point.

if you had a point, you lost it at the end there with 'modern hip hop is trash sorry", is the thing

You're my favorite poster in this thread. Irish, sit your old and busted ass down.

Whoever you are cobragt4001, I gotta give you props: you're almost as corny, delusional and self-loving as Immortal Technique himself. No need to test that though. Please do not llink any of your own original music that you've no doubt produced to uplift black youth groups worldwide while the rest of us just sit in front of our computers, ignoring reality and bumping our own self-fallating threads about "this is way intelligence return in hip hop"; You listen to one infowars conspiracy nut verse and you've pretty much heard them all.

The point wasnt that modern hip hop was trash , the point i made was the opposite , that its just as diverse as before but only a subsection of whats available is out. I didnt say hip hop was about any style over another, but it is about as many styles as possible. Now for the part maybe you dont know about but older people do, before this was all labeled and categorized as this rap or that rap, it was all rap and you had to bring your a-game. The amazing thing for about 8 years was there wasnt any difference in where a more catchy suit and tie rap artist could be consumed or a fake philosopher type like immortal technique , or an actual philosopher like GZA or Killa Priest, or a business man like Jay-Z or a ladies man like LL Cool J , or a straight goon like Tha Lox and or Big Pun's crazy ass, or the angry faces like Cannibus. All of them were in the "main stream" arena , Digable Planets tracks would come on right after a 2 Live Crew video. A unique style was a given, long as it was the implementation of rhetorical methods in free form so it could be judged. Hip hop still uses that , but only a very narrow spectrum of what it could be. So the problem isnt how you judge it like whatever you want, its how much there is to be judged in the mainstream which is lacking in a lot of way compared to earlier times. That is trash.

i see what you're saying, but where did you grow up? what was your scene, etc? because in my neighborhood in miami, 2 Live Crew got play but not as much Diggable. me & my friends ran Wu, Nas etc all day but west coast gangsta stuff still dominated the airwaves (which was also great for a time, but like usual you also had crossover stuff getting a lot more play).

even when Wu Forever went platinum there wans't a radio single, same earlier when stuff like EPMD went gold with little to no mainstream exposure. there's definitely been short trends that may've been more unique & enjoyable (afrocentric shit, harder stuff etc) but even when it was awesome to hear Tribe or Biggie on a radio track, the mainstream still had largely forgettable stuff surrounding it. this is why for me it's not changed a great deal; i love hearing Kendrick or something in that lane get a radio single but even on his best day, he's not gonna be a default track for most stations the way an R&B crossover like Drake will be - even in the golden era of early 90's hip-hop this was still the case. there's variables in the formula no doubt, but i don't think it's changed that much overall.

No. Not really.

Aesop Rock tells a lot of stories in his songs, but he's one of the few rappers that doesn't adhere to the idea that rap music has to be a constant show of aggression towards a particular subject. A lot of his stuff is word association poetry that spends a lot of effort weaving a loosely relatable story. I think people who don't often listen to rap like him so much because he talks about things that aren't so mired in thug life and getting his while telling you how to get yours. He has angry songs, sure, but even those songs feel relatible on a more basic level.

The only time Aesop Rock was really aggressive is when he was working with El-P. It's a shame they separated as they really complimented each other super nicely. But El's sound continues to be more aggressive and intense and angry while still being incredibly thoughtful, while Aesop Rock's sound continues to get more mellow and relaxing.

Aesop Rock - Pigs
Aesop Rock - The Tugboat Complex
Aesop Rock - Coffee
Aesop Rock - None Shall Pass
Aesop Rock - ZZZ Top

Aesop Rock and El-P - We're Famous
Aesop Rock and El-P - Run the Numbers

I REALLY like Aesop Rock. Skelethon probably was his weakest album, but it's still fucking incredible.

Intresing, will work through the links later today.
I only know of him via they guy I mentioned and one song he did with James Blake. I just take whatever he says to do with hiphop with a large grain of salt as he also really rates Macklemore so...

Damn, y'all. This shit is so infectious. I've been listening the fuck out of the Roots, Lupe, and Del ever since this thread was posted.

I've gotta say that Del is probably my favorite."Sleepin' on my couch" is fucking brilliant, just sheer wit.

I really need to try this Aesop Rock fellow out as well, eh?

EDIT:

Listening to "Daylight" currently. There's definitely some real quality here but his cadence makes it a bit difficult for me to get it :/ Something I'll have to adjust to, I guess.

His older stuff is very, very hard to get into at first listen. His newer stuff is more, approachable with a tighter more diverse flow and a bit less of his deadpan-ness. I suggest Daylight though, then right after that you put on Nightlight. It's a cute little theme he had going with those two.

Eyedea & Abilities is my personal choice of hiphop. A friend introduced me to them and Immortal Technique some years ago, and I immediately became a fan. It's a shame Eyedea passed on, because I felt like he had years and years of good material ahead of him. I'm thankful we got the variety that we did in his songs and lyrics though.

EDIT: Nine pages and not a single mention of these guys? I feel so alone.

I always wonder if they really don't realize it or just won't admit it... Can people be that oblivious?

Wombaticus Rex - Minimum Wage
