I really do hope so. But doesn't anybody remember the hype surrounding the black/white dude from....like Tennessee.....who was he again?

Alot of people liked him too. I still like him. I think there are alot of promising young black minds out there. America hasn't seen nothing yet. Slowly but surely they're finally making there way up.

I would like to believe that, but if you think this election split the country, the united states would part like the red sea if Obama ran for president.

Are you guys insane? If a gay ban amendment drives the neocons out in droves, imagine what would happen if a black man ran for president.

Not only that, he's mixed and grew up reading the Koran and Bible. OMG

16 years of bush

Ugh
Seriously, is that not inevitable? 16 years of Cheney and Rove, too. You can be sure they'll be there. Well, maybe not Cheney, poor health and God willing. Wait, God is on his side! Fucked again!

It may seem silly, but someone who has a name too similar to Osama (and I'm not kidding here, I've actually thought Obama was some nickname given to Osama) is not going to make it to the Presidency.

There will be a female president before there is a black president.

First Hillary

Then Reggie...oh wait, is Reggie really black???

:p

Keep hope alive! Dems 2008! The problem with the democratic party is that it's so far removed from mainstream america that it doesn't even realize it's picking turds to run for President. Bush should have been pretty beatable, he's not overwhelmingly popular or wonderful. He has a lot of weak spots on his record. Yet, in an inexplicable move the Dems pick a candidate who gets beaten as bad as any in the last 20 years. Obama may be a good candidate in 10 years, but if he is nominated in 2008, he'll just be another savior of the democratic party that falls by the wayside.

The Democratic party has certainly imploded in the last 4 years. Any group that can conceive of Michael Moore as mainstream political thought in their party needs to unfuck themselves and rejoin the rest of the USA, if they want to remain a popular political party.

That's exactly what they said about him winning the Senate seat in Illinois when he was a relative unknown. I don't think anyone from the Republican camp is going to try and make a link with the similiarity in names...

unless his opponent is Jim Bunning.

Maybe so, but as you Kerry faithful pointed out... oh about a BILLION times last night, American voters are pretty stupid.

If mainstream America means constitutionalized discrimination against gays and intolerance of dissent, I'm glad that the Democratic party stands away from that.

Are you claiming that the new American "mainstream" is located in what is traditionally the right wing of the Republican party? If so, that's some scary shit right there.

Gays... ptth, don't get me started on that... I can't imagine how a man could put his penis in another man's mouth... disgusting.

I'm glad gay marriages were banned in some states. Absolutely disgusting and unnatural (and before anyone calls me an religous zealot, perhaps it would surprise you to know I'm more of an atheist than anything).

Obama? No.

Shut up.

I'm so glad my state elected Obama. We may have lost one battle, but we won another. Keyes is a fucking zealot that is so far right it was down right scary. I'm so proud Obama will represent Illinois in the senate.

This man will be our first black President one day, he has TONS of potential.

This republican administration is anything BUT moderate and there are people within the republican party actively trying to get rid of the moderates!

Since when did anyone call Moore a centrist in the democratic party?

Cause limiting the freedom of others is so awesome. But hey, this isn't the time or the place for a debate about gay marriage, so I'll leave it at that, though I'm sure someone else will take it up instead.

You support bans because my practices disgust you?

I know some people who think sex outside of marriage or before marriage is disgusting as well, same with masterbation. Should we round up the possee and try to ban those too?

What I find disgusting is how easily you can judge based on something that doesn't even concern you personally.

I'm going to take you to task on "unnatural," since that is simply false. Since homosexuality has been with the human race for a LONG time, you can't claim that it isn't "natural."

If you find it disgusting, then keep your penis in your goddamn pants. In fact, keep it in there permanently. But your personal disgust is no basis for denying someone else equal rights.

I don't find it hard to BELIEVE. I find it to be utterly unjustifiable and completely irrational.

Somehow, I suspect you will take that as a compliment.

Nope. I think its a slippery slope position and it opens the door for other types of scenarios to happen because people don't like them, or don't understand them, or find them disgusting or unacceptable. Heaven help you guys if the religious right go to bat to make premarital sex illegal.

Well, I probably hate gays because I actually hung out with one without knowing about it until later. I really freaked me out. My loathing of gays problems stems out of fear of not knowing if someone I've known for years is homosexual (for instance if I find out my best friend was gay... it would probalby emotionally scar me... I'd rather not have to ever deal with that) or not. Maybe it's not a justifable reason to many of you (and mayhaps completely shallow)... but that's just the way I FEEL.

If a gay marriage ban will keep (my hypothethical best friend straight), then I support it. Besides, it's not like my one vote would really matter... I never vote anyway (not even this year).

What is the matter with people? I found out my cousin was gay a few years ago, and it didn't faze me one bit, and why SHOULD IT?
