Thomas Haden Church drops hints on who he might be playing in SPIDER-MAN 3...

Venom is only cool is the "he's going to get you" way, and that's not the style of the Spider-Man movies.

Carnage totally sucks.

I'm all for the Lizard (a favorite of mine among Spidey villians) or Sandman. Why do people call these guys second rate? They've endured decades. It's not like we're talking the Molten Man or Beetle here.

I'm still wondering who Haden-Church is talking about.

I think if they did Venom, it would be a more natural way of him being created. Like the spider that bite Peter was never caught, now what if it was to bite another person? Or what if that spider laid eggs? That is the only way I can see Venom being done. maybe Topher Grace figures out how Spider-Man got his powers and sets out to get his own, he has a "Peter Parker" build anyway...Personally, I really don't want to see Venom. Especially the alien symbiote Venom that some of us know, and some of you love.

Larry David? Well if he isn't a villian, I would expect he is some love interest for Aunt May.

The only way I think they could introduce Venom and keep it half way consistent with the feel of the other Spiderman films. Is to have Eddie Brock covering some sort of NASA event like a satellite or space exhibition returning back to earth, or possibly a meteor crash or another scenario that allows to alien symbiote to reach earth without Spidey for some reason being out of space. The symbiote is attracted to him and Venom is born from there.

If Done right, a Venom flick could be amazing, Eddie Brock/Venom is a complex character that could come across very well if pushed in the right cinematic direction.

I could handle Venom (hey, I think he's a cool character), but put Carnage into a Spider-Man movie and I doubt I'll even go through the trouble of seeing it.

Including Venom/Carnage until the very last series of movies would be a mistake on their part. Those villains are generation-X, whereas the older, more classic bad guys have more substance to make up for the lack of flash and shock value. Venom's inclusion to the movie series will literally ruin things for any subsequent villain that isn't from the same era --- what mainstream movie-goer (who's never read a Spidey comic) will care to watch "corny" villains like Hobgoblin or Lizard after witnessing Spider-man taking on a harmful, standard-issuing villain like Venom?

I agree, Venom IMO would have to be a solo villain in a Spiderman movie just because in order to explore the depth of his character you would have to use up an entire movie just for it.

I could see Raimi go this route:

-Have Spiderman fight one or two "classic" villains in the next movie
-Spiderman is not strong enough on his own to defeat them
-Peter Parker discovers the symbiote who gives him extrordinary powers
-Spiderman defeats the villains with the symbiote but comes close to killing them
-He rejects the symbiote, Eddie Brock finds it (after already hating Parker)
-Venom is born
-See Spiderman 4

:D

I hope this comes to fruition. I'd shut up if Raimi came out and said "I'm going to do a Spiderman movie with Venom involved down the road!". My worries come from the fact that he may stop doing the Spiderman movies after part 3 and some low level hack comes in and Batman and Robins the venom storyline. If Raimi handles the Venom saga I know the movie will be good! I don't understand all this Venom hate either when I see second tier villiains being suggested instead. The Spiderman universe really doesn't have the antagonist legacy other franchises have. As for Carnage, I could live without him in the flick. Call Venom XTTTTRRRRRREEEEEMMMMMEEEEE all you want but he is the most dangerous adversary to Spiderman.
