Patty Jenkins is in early talks to helm the "Thor" sequel for Marvel Studios and Disney Pictures says Variety.

Jenkins directed acclaimed 2003 indie drama "Monster" and has since worked on TV shows like "Entourage," "Arrested Development" and more recently the acclaimed two-hour pilot for AMC's "The Killing".

The hiring of Jenkins is decidedly unconventional, but so was the hiring of Kenneth Branagh for the first film which collected $447 million at the worldwide box office, a risk that definitely payed off.

Jenkins beat out another acclaimed cable series director who was previously linked as the favourite - "Game of Thrones" episode helmer Brian Kirk. Kirk opted out during negotiations.

Others reportedly considered for the job include the likes of Drew Goddard ("Cabin in the Woods"), James McTeigue ("Ninja Assassin"), Noam Murro ("300: Battle of Artemesia") and Breck Eisner ("The Crazies").

Don Payne, who co-wrote "Thor," is writing the sequel which is already scheduled for a July 26th 2013 release.

Out doing promotional rounds for the new indie legal drama "Puncture", actor Chris Evans says the inevitable "Captain America" sequel will likely wait until 2014.

“They may wait until 2014 until they release the next Cap. Marvel has a lot of balls in the air, they aren’t going to cannibalize their films” the actor told The Playlist.

He also confirmed he’s signed for three “Captain America“ entries and three “Avengers” films, so it's unlikely his character will pop up, even in cameos, in other Marvel films - “Out of those six films, if I pop up in one of those [other films], it counts as part of the deal. So if they needed me in a third Cap, and I say, ‘Fuck you, give me $30 million,’ well…they want to avoid that."

Marvel has already set aside May 16th 2014 and June 27th 2014 release dates for films, but hasn't yet announced what they will be.

As for his much debated about new costume in "The Avengers" which fans have been vocal about? You can blame the design on Joss Whedon it seems. “The first one was a 1940s look, very utilitarian, something that would serve a purpose on the battlefield. But in ‘The Avengers,’ Joss just had a certain vision in his mind about what he wanted Cap to look like. That’s what he wanted to see. It’s so nice working on these movies and the director’s a fan. He’s the dude at Comic-Con that we’re terrified of pissing off. If Joss is happy, I’m happy.”

FUCK YOU JOSS. The first costume was so much better it's not funny.

40's look? That suit looks perfectly awesome now! Screw you Joss Whedon. His suit now looks hilariously close to the the propaganda joke suit.

What's wrong with the new costume?

It went from this (which was awesome):

To this (ugh, that mask):

Taking off the mask helps a bit but the costume still looks ridiculous and not as good as the one used in Captain America film:

Did The Avengers start drug testing?

No longer boycotting the Wolfenstein franchise
For better or worse, that new costume looks like it fits in great in terms of the Marvel movie style.

So hows the Justice League movie coming?

Who knows, other than Batman, DC has been doing a bad job with their movies lately.

But you know the actual Justice League is cooler than their Marvel knock-off.

Not really. Avengers are way cooler.

I actually like his Avengers costume its more faithful to the comic version. I don't see why he can't use both costumes just depending on the situations.

I really liked the Thor movie so I'm down.
How? That movie was so bad I couldn't believe I was actually watching something highly regarded. Atrocious is probably the right word to describe it.

Their God world or whatever looked pretty at least.

I loved it but I was pretty giggly on pain killers when I saw it.

It was a very enjoyable movie. I like how thy could have made it into a whole grand epic thing with the GODSSS ANd THOORRR GRRR but it was actually pretty contained. Just the right amount of back-story, and a nice contained main plot that introduces us to the characters.

It's a fun movie, plain and simple. Not surprised it reviewed well.

only bad thing about the movie I saw was the budget was obviously spent on CGI for Asgard. And so for Earth we got some backstage studio looking shanty town for our big throw down.

Is that why they just rebooted it again?

So it's a bad thing that for once a climatic superhero battle didn't occur in a major metropolitan city? I always found Zod's attack on that small town in Superman II to be the most entertaining part of that film.

Movie is shit without Antman and Black Panther. When are they releasing a direct to dvd West Coast Avengers movie because Joss seems to think he is making it judging by the Avenger set pics.

The setting was BORING. Nothing even got blown up. It was a tame encounter.

Also, more news on proposed setting for the Thor sequel.

With "Monster" director Patty Jenkins now looking likely to helm "Thor 2" for Marvel Studios, some new details have emerged on what the actual content of the Don Payne-scripted film will be via Marvel president Kevin Feige.

Feige tells EW that the upcoming sequel will "take Thor literally to other worlds. [It will] primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father Odin (Anthony Hopkins) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds."

The first film showed us three of the Nine Worlds: Asgard, home of Thor. Midgard, our modern Earth. Jotunheim, the frozen wasteland of the Frost Giants.

Vanaheim, home of the Asgardian sister race the Vanir; Alfheim, home of the light elves; and Nidavellir, the dark fields of the dwarves, all reside on the same planetoid as Asgard along with the hall of Valhalla where the honored dead go (but it is not considered a separate world).

Other worlds that seem more ripe for exploration in the sequel include Hel, the realm of the dead ruled over by an Asgardian goddess named Hela; Muspelheim, the fiery realm of demons ruled by Surtur; and Svartalfheim, the home of the dark elves. There's also Niffleheim, the frozen realm of the dishonored dead, but it's not considered a separate world - rather a part of Hel.

Neither Natalie Portman or Anthony Hopkins are yet confirmed to be reprising their roles.
