CALABASAS HILLS, Calif., April 18 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- THQ (Nasdaq: THQI - News) today announced support for Microsoft's next-generation Xbox® video game platform. Internal studios Relic Entertainment and Volition, Inc. are leading the company's efforts by developing new, exclusive content for the new system.

"Microsoft's next-generation technology will enable a level of realism never before experienced by gamers," said Jack Sorensen, executive vice president of worldwide studios, THQ. "The teams at Relic and Volition have been working closely with the development team at Microsoft to ensure that our titles utilize the new system to its fullest potential."

Oh, hell no! No more Red Faction crap, please. It's time for 3D space-shooters to come back and be a well-represented genre again.

Freespace (3D space combat) + Starflight (massive universe) + Live = wet underwear. A 3D NetTrek would oh-so make my day.

Freespace yes, Red Faction no

make it happen Volition!

I would also like to see Relic do something console related with their Warhammer 40k license..

I will go into a bezerker rage and kill everyone there if I have to buy the Xbox360 to get Summoner!!!!

Summoner 3 and new Final Fantasy would seal the deal for me.

they sure release a lot of shit. Is Destroy all humans out yet? I hope it'll turn out good cause I love the xcom games.

? Destroy All Humans only shares the 'alien attacks Earth theme'..but it's an action game...not a strat title.

i know but I like that theme and its cheekiness. Plus its australian so I can't wait to see what they made. Had a lot of hype initally but they seem to be unable to get it out the door.

Ha! The only thing I'll tell you is that this forum's conjecture over Xenon specs makes for high amusement. :P

not sure if you mean that in a good way....

or a bad way...

I believe Outrage was behind or was the last holder of the Freespace franchise. Volition was just an offshoot of Outrage.

Volition made the last Freespace. Outrage (rip) made the last Descent. THQ probably owns the Descent IP after they bought Outrage and then shut 'em down.

Interplay owns the Descent Freespace rights, besides unless they seriously nerf the controls i can't see how could anyone manage to play the game without a joystick/keyboard combo.

Yeah, but I thought Interplay now consisted of a cardboard box in an alley and a filing cabinet gathering mildew in someone's basement.

Quick gameographies for those wondering...

i`ll bet we are seeing overhauled ps3 ports a half year later.

Good luck to any dev that is slated with the impossible task of porting a Xenon title to PS3 in 6 months, especially if the title is Live! enabled.

Simulataneous development of a PS3/Xenon title will be more feasible, but a straight port from Xenon to PS3 will be a bitch. XNA is making sure of that.
