I'm glad Burton is going back to animation, especially since the movie resembles A Nightmare Before Christmas's art. Here are some pics and a trailer. God I can't wait for this movie:

It looks so great and the style rocks, but the movie itself just doesn't seem very good. I hope I'm wrong. Nightmare rocks.

Burton didn't direct A Nightmare Before Christmas...

I have to agree with Olimario on this one...the style is absolutely stunning and I like the general idea of it, but nothing really makes me want to go see it. I think that it has a lot of talent behind it, but there's nothing driving me to the threatres.

I was excited about this when it was first discussed on Tim Burton's website (with a picture of the corpse bride herself), but reading the back story for the film sort of killed that for me. I still plan to see this for the fact that it is a Tim Burton film, but the story itself doesn't sound very interesting or great as a premise for a movie.

I suppose that I am being unfair, because I look at this and want it to be another Nightmare Before Christmas, which it won't be.

I was surprised nobody made a thread awhile back. I would've made a thread about it, but then again, I was banned.

I love stop-motion animation, and I think there are some really spectacular developments being highlighted in this project, but yeah, the story does little for me and the comedy looks too slapstick and/or childish to me. Haha, Depp's character ran into a tree! Oh, oh, he asked the skeleton dog to play dead! *groan* I'm sick of this stuff being dumbed down in order to appeal to kids. They're not as dumb and unintelligent as people think they are, although I have no idea that consuming this kind of media consistently pushes them in that direction.

Can you at least wait for another trailer? Please?

Yes? I'll be seeing it one way or another. If the plot and humor appear up my alley then I'll see it in theaters. If not, I'll rent it later and marvel at the animation. I was simply very disappointed with the teaser after anticipating the film for a couple years.

Ha, OK. Just seems unfair to judge the story and the nature of the humor based on 1 minute of early footage.

And if it does suck, well -- there's always Wallace & Gromit. Gotta love Aardman.

here's an honest opinion that'll get me flamed:

anyone else getting sick of johnny depp yet? the reason I started liking him so much is cuz he only did one flick every three or four years. Now what... 5 roles in 3 years? Secret Window, Pirates, Charlie and his CHOCOLATE, Corpse Bride, and Finding Neverland. It's not eclectic if you see it all the time.

I'm getting tired of movies where Johnny Depp's acting and character creating abilities are the only noteworthy aspects. Secret Window at least had a second actor giving a funky performance. Pirates was an absolute snorefest except for Depp. Without starting a debate, Chocolate Factory looks like a similar escapade. Depp's fun, but not even he can save a bad script.

I'll say this. I don't like that Burton just casts the same people over and over again, specifically with regard to whomever he happens to be romantically linked with at the time. Seriously, does Helena Bonham Carter really need a role in every one of his films? It's especially annoying since she has roles in both stop-motion animated films this year and they're being released a week apart.

I question whether he even has a casting process anymore. Basically the whole voice cast of Corpse Bride are either actors Burton has worked with before or others whom those aforementioned actors have worked with. It seems like he just hires the people closest to him and then asks his buddies who else to grab.

Pixar has ruined feature film animation forever and ever.

One of the worst comments I've ever heard on this board. It's the only SAVING GRACE of feature film animation right now. The shit that's ruining it is Drewamworks(Madagascar, Shark's tale, Shrek 4) and everyone trying to make a quick buck off CG. Also studios not willing to support 2D and the masses not willing to see it. It's going to have to take a great movie to make money with traditional animation, while CG can coast on shit releases between Pixar flicks. It's a damn shame a movie like Iron Giant can bomb.

it didn't bother me when it was Winona Ryder but I'm sick of it now, I've no illusions that this will fit snugly with the last 10 years of absolute crap that Burton has put out

That's Selick. :p And he's not involved with this movie at all.

I know. I was referring to the post that mentioned that Burton didn't direct Nightmare. Should have qouted it for all of the nitpickers.

You got me on the spelling though. Good eye. Almost.

Not really looking forward to Corpse, anyways.

Hasn't this film been on the drawing boards for years and years now. I remember hearing about it over 10 years ago/.

What's wrong with Corpse Bride? What's it about?
The main character is set to get married in a couple days. He's the definition of nervous. He heads out into the woods, finds a stick coming out of the ground and practices putting the ring on and saying his vows. Turns out the stick was a corpse bride's finger, and she rises from the ground and pursues the main guy for marriage.

Something like that.

My issue's mostly with the comedy, although the plot doesn't inspire much in me either. It's certainly not as cool as 'the Pumpkin King discovers Christmas and sets out to celebrate the holiday his way.'
