As I suspected, the article is pretty good (it reminds you that this title isn't an "award" by any means :))

Hitler was man of the year BEFORE WWII, when he was a rising politician.

Everyone still knew he was a racist cunt (then again so was most of the world, but still...). Hardly matters anyway...the criteria they set out clearly indicates that bin Laden should've won in 2001 GOING AWAY. Rudy only meant something in New York, and frankly his star was ridiculously overblown by an all too willing media, looking to make a hero out of anybody.

Even if he was Man of the Year during or after WWII (1938 was before), that wouldn't be the same thing. He didn't go to war to draw attention to himself. Placing Osama on the cover, however, invariably with info on the relative issues - the man behind the face, would give him exactly what he wanted.

Oh really? Did he have a subscription to Time Magazine that would've shown him this? :lol

And let's be real here...bin Laden was on the cover and lead story of every magazine, newspaper and news show in the world for three months straight. We'd already given him what he wanted anyway...might as well just close the deal.

Besides the probability of him finding out (he wouldn't need a subscription, would he), he really wouldn't have to for my point to be made.

I'm talking about: "invariably with info on the relative issues - the man behind the face"

Bin Laden has gotten plenty of face-time as the villain. But what does that accomplish? Barely anything. A Time magazine special, however, in talking about bin Laden, would necessarily detail what inspired/instigated him.

WHAT! Take a look around. The majority of the People of the Year winners are Americans. Time is an American magazine it will be Americancentric.

Then call your award

“time American of the year”

First off, the point had already been made as I said before...the only people who get as much attention as he did that year is Jesus Christ and Santa Claus.

Moreover, I'm simply using Time's own stated criteria here, not my own. If they don't think bin Laden was worthy when he clearly met that criteria, then the criteria obviously needs to be changed.

Well, I agree with you. I just think this was exceptional circumstance and I can understand why they didn't choose him.

Ha! Nice one. That just seems like something I'd see on iFilm.

Frankly, I'm largely beyond surprise at this point. Some days I check the news in the world and it'll "only" be more Iraqi or US troop attacks; other days I'll get a whole slew of of administration news, whether that be weakening commitments to environmental protection, nuclear proliferation, Republicans continuing to punish Democrats in Congress, Rumsfeld doing god-knows-what, and so on. It's almost hard not to become politically numb to all this, but at this point it's almost some alien spectacle that I'm just watching until someone, hopefully, changes the channel in 4 years.
