Timesplitters Future Perfect - Gamespot review

I hope the mapmaker becomes a standard for ALL online console FPS.
User created content is the future IMO

fuck paying the developers for maps

Future Perfect is a fun game, but more of the same IMO. If you didn't really like the other Timesplitters games, you won't care for this one either.

The custom map mode is the best feature of the game and is what makes it worth purchasing. Easy to use, and you can even create single player maps!

Definitely. I wouldn't mind spending $19.99 for that Halo 2 map pack coming out if it had a map maker along with it.

Farcry and Pariah (sp?) are going to feature mapmaker features for Xbox as well.

Got it today, lots of fun. The dam level is sweet, but it reminds me of a Halo (2) level. The one in the ice. They seem to have taken a lot of things from Halo, a la grenades, hitting with weapons, etc. It's still fast and fun, so much content I could get lost for hours figuring out stuff to do.

yeah, even from the early trailers i noticed a lot of HAlo influenced situations and scenarios. Even the sniper HUD is straight from Halo.

Still not buying it, no matter how hard they try to copy my favourite FPS

If someone releases an FPS that doesn't play like Halo (like Timesplitters 2), you bitch about it because it's not like 'your favourite FPS'.

Then, when the developers respond to some of the criticisms by incorporating more Halo-like elements in the sequel, you still bitch, because now they're 'copying your favourite FPS'.

So it really doesn't matter what Free Radical does with the series, does it? No matter what happens, you'll still bitch about it, for no better reason than the fact that Timesplitters isn't Halo. If you prefer Halo to other FPS's, that's fine, but we really don't need to hear you 'show your Halo love' by trolling other games in the genre all the time--you're being a bit of an ass about it now.

Game is good. Much better than the second all around except for the cutscenes. TS2 had much better cutscene.
Does it have the challenges like TS2? That was the best part of TS2!

Hell yes.

I have to disagree with the above...not a big fan of 2 and this one kicks it's ass. From options to content. I would have scored it higher than they did so far. Be a shame if you had Xbox Live and didn't try this game out. There's sooo much to do.

:lol

Another problem is that gamers start to think that their favorite game is the pioneer of certain elements, thus all other games have copied it. But trust me, Halo didn't invent hitting people with weapons, grenades, and I'm sure a million other games have had similar sniper HUDs too that came before Halo.

Well no, controls are still fucked. Halo-like its not

me and my friend just played 4 hours of co-op and then an hour of online. We love the game so far. Simple to play and really fucking fun.

My friend is getting this on the GC and bringing it to my house. I have to base my impressions from the GC version. :lol

I'm picking it up first on GC myself. My brothers and I (as well as my friends) prefer how TS2 controlled on Gamecube.

I'm definately picking it up on Xbox to play online though.

TS2 is really under-rated. The arcade modes, and challenge league things are awesome. So much to unlock.

Oh really? That's odd... in the version I own, the default control scheme is very similar to Halo's (including grenades on the left trigger), and the controls are fully customizable. The moving-cursor aiming that you so loved to complain about in TS2 is off by default now--the reticle remains fixed in the center of the screen at all times, like in more traditional FPS's.

You're right, though. The game's not exactly Halo-like. It feels smoother, thanks to the higher frame rate, and plays faster, which is a turn-off for some people, but not for me. (Unreal Tournament is the yardstick I measure by. Halo 1 felt sluggish to me, Halo 2 was better, and the TS games hit the 'sweet spot'.)

To tell you the truth, Prine, I doubt you've even played TS3.

The Faceless Master said:
huh? isn't the option there to enable/disable the floaty aim that some people complained about?

Yes, it's off by default. Prine's going on about nothing, as usual.

Roommate picked it up this morning. Played it for a couple hours in deathmatch with him and some bots.

Tremendous, as always. As I always say in a Timesplitters thread, it kicks the ass of Halo. Much faster and better controls, in my opinion. Coming from the UT2K4 (ie, GOOD fps) field of gaming, this is good.

I'll be picking up the PS2 version for online play tonight. Hopefully it's implemented well.

Edit: I've only got two complaints so far. First is that the "xxx got the first kill!" message takes up alot of the screen and stays there for a LONG time. This was very annoying. The other is that my roommate took about 5 minutes between matches to choose his character. Way too many available from the start. Ninja monkey, fishbot, and that guy in the robot suit rule, though.

Hopefully I'll be getting it today for $25, since I'm splitting the cost with my brother, who also really wants it. I'm really excited about it now, mainly because of the mapmaking community I expect to see on XBL. :)

It can't just be a good game,it HAS to kick some other games ass, seriously,I just throw your opinion out the window when you have to go out of your way to trash another game.

I have to say that because the Halo trolls are always ever-present in my Timesplitters threads.

The software seems to have forgotten to prefix your default tag with "Junior".

Did I strike a nerve? If all you've ever played was a demo, then perhaps you should avoid making sweeping statements about the game. Things do change between demos and final releases, you know.

I have to say that because the Halo trolls are always ever-present in my Timesplitters threads.

Stupid comments like "OMG IT KICKS HALO'S ASS!" only feed the trolls, they do not scare them away ;)

I did like the fact that there was an option to switch the crosshairs on, but the rest of the demo was too formulaic (AI was horrible). Yes they might have changed it a tad, and YES i might be hating on the game little too much. But from what i played, i dont see it changing too from the demo, its just the TS feel that i hate.

The speed, the twitchy movement just doesn't suit me. Online mode however does sound interesting, i'll be discussing it further with a few XBL friends tonight

I don't intend to scare them away, rather, I do it simply to show them that I am the boss, I own them, and some other macho internet geek bullshit :)

The games aren't much alike. You can like them both or one of the other. It's getting dumb. I like them both - but if you didn't like 2 this one is better. I don't think the graphics engine is as strong as the 2nd, but then again it does more. There are occasional frame rate issues that you will see deeper in the game. Again, I don't think that takes away from it's strengths.

The AI isn't great but the situations are fucking great, so again, that doesn't really matter. I'm not deep into the challenges/arcade league yet, but you vs. the pig carcasses or you vs. the deer with a deer rifle are about the best things ever.

Damn it, I said to myself I would wait to buy this used to not support EA..but... I think I might cave in. After looking at all the Goldeneye maps being re-created and the amazing stat page and map database on the official site, I'm leaning heavily towards putting the full blown $50 down on this baby.

say what?

Is the music in this game as good as TS2's music?

I'm very tempted to pick this up, I have 2 for gamecube and I would get this for the cube too (mainly because I'm more used to the cube's controls) but 16 player matches and map sharing on Live is way too good of a deal.

Wow, how can you even consider the cube version when you have Xbox Live 16 players and mapsharing on the xbox version?! The xbox controller isn't that bad :lol

wow reading some of the post you guys made its like either Halo2 is a horrible game or timesplitter 3 is a horrible game.

My own 2 cents, i think both are great and equally great but for VERY different reason. Timesplitters is easy to get into and pure fun....Halo is a bit more strategic and slower paced.

You can also play the story mode with a second player, which makes for some solid co-op.
