TLOU Remastered: 30 fps option gives better shadow quality [Up: Comparison GIF in OP]

This has to be THE most stupid reason to cancel a pre order. It's no shit that having 30fps allows for better things such as shadows. Why are you making it seem like it's a big deal?

A fantastic example for why we need a new thread that discusses the new topic that discusses the known missing effects from the ps3 version. People don't read past the first page. Orochi, I suggest you start the new topic about this completely separate issue since you're passionate about this and not a junior member.
And since then other issues have cropped up. I don't think asking for a patches to fix this
shit is out of line or unusual.

-Z-fighting
-Aliasing
-Missing shadows
-Messed up textures
-AO issues

Patches would be more than welcomed.

Exactly. And I'm not saying the ps4 version won't be better overall, but given these problems and the fact that they went gold at the very last minute makes me think they were on too tight of a deadline.

if I can't tell the difference, why would I care about 60fps when I can have better shadows

I refuse to believe that you can't tell the difference. It isn't subtle, either. It's very noticeable. I'm going to say that you just don't want to see it, and I wouldn't really blame you. If it concerned color, sure, as some people are color blind, but I don't know of any medical condition that would make a person incapable of seeing the very 'live broadcasting' motion of 60fps. Someone please school me if I'm wrong.

The game was coded for the PS3, a Cell based proccessor, which is based on completely different architecture than the PS4, which is x86. Naughty Dog optimized the hell out of the game, just to get it running for the PS3, had to completely redevelop the code for the game for the PS4, just to get it working.

A half ass port would be a simple uprez. Naughty Dog went far beyond what I thought that they would do. This is the most work ever put into a Remaster, so you might want to calm the hell down.

No matter what, compromises have to be made, especially on closed boxes. The PS4 is vastly weaker than what you think it is, too.

But you don't understand....he doesn't CARE about how hard they worked, so we can't convince him otherwise. To him, this port is half-assed and that's the only conclusion to the weak shadows.

Edit: Oop's I'm wrong, it's not the only conclusion. The other one is that the PS4 is weak. My bad.

I will post some pics from the other thread ,i really can't see where they PS3 version is better than these in any way .

And this is at twice the frame rate and res .

These shots don't show that weirdness with the flashlight either. Seems like it's a bug or something to do with the angle it's hitting those cupboards at.

I like video games.

You can see it in this shot here on the broken pipe:

But honestly, the PS3 version does this too, the lower resolution probably made it less noticeable. It might be a quick fix if they deem it needing to be fixed at all.

Still anyone saying this is not massive upgrade over PS3 i don't know what to say .

Nice shots. 1080p, some nicer textures, some decent AF and 60fps....NOICE. Just what this game needed.

You keep giving explanations. All I see is a product. That's it. If making it for the ps4 was a difficult task, ok. Not my problem. I am a gamer. I just won't buy it. That's it. You don't have to agree with my rationale.

Wait, how is that gif any relevant?
It isn't.

We definitely do not need that.

Let the game come out, let people play it then discuss what you think in the OT thread. Simple.

Ah, I can see it now. I think it's just something left over from the PS3 code since it seems they're using mostly the same processes, just ported over to PS4.

Not possible. The whole system is a disappointment. What's sad is that many of us are up in arms over this half assed remaster. A remaster. That's because it's all ps4 owners have. If it weren't for Destiny, I'd gladly sell mine.
You should probably just sell your PS4 and get Destiny on PS3. It probably looks better there and you can get the definitive version of TLOU too.

You can't say anything to the trolls that just want to find tricky tack bullshit to try and knock thane for.

Yep lower res along with every thing being more aliasing \blurry most likely hide it better .
Still i don't think people remember how bad TLOU can look at certain parts and that is not even talking about the frame rate .

Any PS3 examples of the flashlight? I don't remember it doing that - I do remember being pretty blown away by the quality of the flashlight shadows on PS3 generally

We definitely do not need that.

I'd rather people be informed before their purchase. Many people are rebuying the game based on Naughty Dog's interviews and the assumption that is will look better in every respect.

Such a great game. But seeing those pics i realise i remember the game almost completely. A good sign, but also a sign that i won't buy it again for now.

Secondary bounce of light from flashlight was not enabled on ps3 on most scenes as it was too resource intensive.
You can see it around his left arm too. I agree.
They would have to change the approach completely from the one used in Ps3 to fix it.

What part of me not caring about the development process is hard for you to grasp? In all seriousness. I keep telling you I don't care and you keep reiterating it. I do not care. I worked harder than developers for my money. But they shouldn't care. I either buy it or I don't. That's it.

Your quote:

If the game is a compromise on newer hardware, it is half assed. Or the ps4 is weak, take your pick.

How can you say you don't care about the development process for this game, then proceed to make two conclusions about why these graphical misgivings occur, when the only way you could know if it was either of those things is if you either had a first-hand look at their development process, or they explicitly told you it was either of those things? Lmao.

It sounds to me you cared about the dev process when you made those accusations, but then stopped caring when I proved you wrong.

Anyway, I'm done with talking to you. It's going nowhere.

Have you seen the PS3 version lately? It can look pretty rough at times and performance struggles.

People are going to rebuy it based off the fact it's 1080p and 60fps. Everything else is just a bonus. You don't need to 'inform' anyone about anything. No one is being lied to and no one is being forced. Everyone has a pretty good idea of what they're getting.

Shh! He doesn't know yet.

If possible, could you explain this in greater detail for me? I am genuinely interested.

Anyone can cherry pick screens. That goes for both sides. If all the problematic screens are just glitches or rare circumstances, I'd be surprised and delighted. But given how hard they say this port was, given the date it went gold and given the complete lack of game play shown by ND ahead of time, I'd say it isn't likely.

So it's a engine problem from the game being made on PS3 ?
If that so it would be rather hard to fix .

What about the overwhelming number of great impressions and screens from people who have the game? Those far outnumber a few underwhelming screens.

I'm looking at some pretty compelling evidence by readers here that shows you're wrong and they don't just want 1080p and 60fps. They want all the effects from last gen as well. I personally will hold off on this as well.

But thanks for the embargo suggestion on a new thread.

My first post: "I don't care how hard anyone worked. All I care about is the product and the end result. I am a consumer. This port is half assed." Pretty clear. Yet here we are. Prove me wrong, sure.

Zomg who knew they'd be using the same shit from the PS3 version and not completely remaking the game for PS4.

I think people are caught up on the term remaster...thinking it'll be a complete remake.

Interesting will save to read later .

I expected as much to happen as you said it's just a port , i think people looking at TR DE and thinking TLOU would be the same .
Big difference is TR had a PC version that already much better tech \engine .

It maybe double the res and framerate but this.

Looks like a PS3vs360 multiplatform comparison, I'm really excited to play the PS4 version but things like this are making it really hard to see what they've actually done.
And making it worst is people claiming theres this BIG upgrade because people are expecting it and are being disappointed.

Since this image has come up again, I have to ask. Were these direct captures or were they taken off screen? I ask because they look like the latter, which if you are using that as a reference point for 720p upscaled vs 1080p native...well..
