TLOU Remastered: 30 fps option gives better shadow quality [Up: Comparison GIF in OP]

A text convo I had with a friend this morning

Him: after seeing that gif I'm definitely going 30
Me: oh christ
Him: the shadows look twice as good dude. come on
Me: the framerate at 60 is twice as good...
Him: i see what you're saying but I notice shadows in games more than framerate honestly
Him: and i rarely play games at 60 anyway
Me: i'm done with this. i'm just done.

different people like different things. It pisses me off too man

I'm sure you and many others will enjoy the game. But this is not the remaster many previous owners were hoping for.

Add to that Naughty Dog's secrecy on gameplay footage before release.

I'm a previous owner, 1080p 60fps is what most wanted, it's twice the pixels and twice the framerate, that's enough to make a BIG difference on a big screen, hell 60fps would be enough for most since framerate makes the biggest difference, more than any other setting. If someone expected a previous gen port to look completly different it's their own fault.

They give a simple option for better shadows at 30fps (I don't have a clue why people would sacrifice 30 frames for better shadows) and people start losing their shit? don't get the game and be done, this is such a sad thread.

I agree. This certainly isn't what I expected, hence my disdain towards this port right now.
It's my fault for getting caught up in the ND hype lol. As a result of the past few days,
I will be seriously critical of anything ND says about Uncharted 4.

Unbelievable, for me personally, how this went from a must-buy to a used purchase.

Every that ND said they were going to do they did , i mean you list aliasing as a problem did you think the game was going to be aliasing free.
We have a lot of pics for t this game but nothing going change anyone opinion when they want to see what they want to see.

You can't blame someone who doesn't know the difference, most console games aren't 60fps. If he wants better shadows and doesn't care about 60fps, thats his prerogative. He can enjoy the game the way he deems fit.
Shit like this is why we have so few developers striving for 60 in the first place. If gamers don't give a fuck (usually out of pure ignorance), why should they give a fuck? Drives me crazy.

I just saw the GIF in the OP, and holy crap that is a *huge* difference. Extremely noticeable. That is close to megaton-level difference.

Not sure if I will buy it now

I hope you're not trying to shame any and everyone who isn't thrilled by many of these graphical omissions. You walked into a tech thread of a re-release. This is what we discuss here.

More like what you bitch and moan about in here.

I don't think I've seen you post one positive thing. Crazy considering you haven't even played the game.

Thats just the way it is man. Look at this thread right now where we are discussing shadow differences that may/may not be glitches. People are coming out of the woodwork to proclaim ND liars because of these minor things (In spite of them doing everything they said they would do with this remaster). In the fight for 30fps/60fps, whoever has the best graphics is going to win over the audience.

Everyone should be disappointed because clearly, this game had either no QC budget or not enough. The graphical glitches missed are not something one should expect from Naughty Dog.

Careful. Criticizing this remake may mean you're entitled and need a lesson in humility by those good enough to take the time to shame you.

But there's a bigger problem. The poster above you doesn't think you could exist in real life.

Only noticeable in moving foliage it seems?
More discussion from my friend with the game, the tree was moving, not static. Static shadows aren't as noticeably different, I'll be uploading em' in a few minutes.

Pre-order redeemed?

Nowadays these threads go to shit when not only do people try to coerce their preference down another person's throat, but also spread false information such as 60fps not being distinguishable from 30fps. The fuck?

Just saw this ND games had glitches i never run into some but if look at UC2 ,UC3 and TLOU threads.
You would see some people run into some , i remember for UC3 someone had glitch where they whole level did not load .

Agreed, luckily Uncharted 4 is targeting 60fps and not listening to the 30fps crowd. I'd take less input lag and a smoother framerate always.

How I wish some people would read the thread. TheyMany think I'm taking about the title topic rather than the worsened lighting in many instances between the ps4 and ps3 version.

if I can't tell the difference, why would I care about 60fps when I can have better shadows

Dunno, I only just saw the OP now. Have not read any rest of the thread, way too long

Read the next quote in his post. I don't think he was really asking you. But yeah, it wouldn't surprise me. Someone posted some more images and the difference was minimal.

Perfectly understandable. This game doesn't exactly need 60FPS anyway so it's nice to know that those who don't want to play at that FPS get some benefits because of it.

lol. When this port was first announced, a lot of people questioned and doubted whether they'd be able to get it running at 1080p and 60 fps. They manage to pull it off and people start losing their shit over this? Unreal.

Ah ok, well I'll have to see GIFs of that then.

But I like dynamic shadows =(((

Religion.

Politics.

Framerate.

The taboo conversational topics with friends and family.

I also canceled my pre-order when I saw that the shadow had a huge difference. If they had made the shadow not have a huge difference between the same game at two settings then I would have bought it day 1.

ND said they were going to remaster the game, with higher resolution and framerate, along with other improvements, which is exactly what they did.
But hey, keep beating that drum, I guess.

People have to be CONCERNED over something regarding this game man. Can't let these dirty lying thieves take off with our money, can we?

I don't care how hard anyone worked. All I care about is the product and the end result. I am a consumer. This port is half assed.

Half-assed would imply they didn't work hard on it, and they didn't put in much effort. We know this isn't the case, so you are plain wrong in your accusation of it being a half-assed port. Maybe you should play some actual half-assed ports to refresh your memory of what they look/play like. People like you think it's as simple as pressing a 'make PS4 version' button.

And yeah, someone else brought up a good point: why don't we ever see any of these drive-by trolls and false concern trolls ever say anything about the screens that look GREAT? What about the comparisons that show the shadow close to identical on each FPS setting? Why do they go ignored by the very same trolls who complain about every single negative?

Yes, I do realise that I answered my own question with the above comment.

Lol. PR wreck is a bit far. Outside of GAF and a maybe a few other niche online communities, nobody knows or cares about this.
Outside of GAF and a few other niche online communities, nobody knows or cares that you can limit the framerate either.

It's an option that only exists for the people who beg for it in the places you mentioned.

Most people who prefer 30FPS won't be able to find the options to change it and just go by default*

Not talking about GAFfers of course ;)

Default always wins.

I played the ps3 version. And why would I need to post anything positive in light (no pun intended) downgrades of even the 30fps ps4 version when compared to the ps3 version. I'll talk about positives when I see them patched.

It's more than double the framerate and resolution. Those are huge positives.
Gamersyde embargoed the 60fps comparison video...anywhere else I can watch it?

I've only seen one comparison of what you describe in the thread, and the ps3 version didn't even have this, it's good that people notice and hopefully ND can patch it, but making such a big deal about a bug when they're offering a ton other improvements?

Any chance to try and knock someone down a peg, some people take. Just trolls nothing more.

While I agree some responses in this thread are a little over the top I do think there's some reason for concern. The 60 fps gameplay is a welcome addition. The issues shown in some of the pics in this thread are not. I just cancelled my preorder at Amazon as a result. I wanted to support naughty dog and get the definitive version of this game but at this point I'm not sure this is it. First post on the matter and not trying to troll anyone.

I hope ND hide the 30fps lock option behind 1000 sub-menus. Then, when you give up and decide to play at 60, a huge Druckmann-styled trollface appears on your screen, laughing wildly.

Are you trying to say you think the PS3 version will be better when the dust settles and everything is said and done?

That's a bold statement. /travolta

There are already positives twice the frame rate , better IQ , 1080p , better shadows , textures etc etc .
Somebody show me some pics of the PS3 version that look better than these.
