TLOU Remastered: 30 fps option gives better shadow quality [Up: Comparison GIF in OP]

Do we have any examples of the improved blood and water yet? The class shattering and fire particles in that vid on the last page looked great but I'm more curious about the wet stuff.

Cancelled my Amazon pre-order, but I primarily did so because of the awesome deal at Gamestop when trading in the PS3 version. I'll decide closer to launch whether or not I'll go in and get it immediately or wait a bit.

Still there. Just shutter adjusted for 60fps.

2 more days...2 more days!

Looks phenomenal!

We always remember the game, not the graphical shortcommings. And it's the same game. But our memories are clouded.
This game will look insane when playing on PS4. Better than on PS3. But most people will see... the same game. And it is. Just in a higher fidelity and higher framerate. Like they said....

I sugest anyone with a PS4 who hasn't played it yet to buy it cause it's a shame to miss out on a great game like this.

aren't we all my friend... aren't we all.

The problem is that the wrinkles are now static. They don't shift with movement.

Ummm incorrect. The wrinkles at the bottom of the characters shirt are eliminated completely as they stretch forward and then back at the 26 second mark, and cast shadows in the appropriate manor for said movement. In fact those shadows look better and have more definition on the ps4 version. Don't move goalposts. You said they no longer existed.

Amazon just shipped my pre-order. I think it's pretty scummy we didn't get word on this shadows issue sooner so I would have time to cancel it.

Looks like it'll be 30fps for me. Pixelated shadows drive me nuts. Can't stand that shit in Destiny.

Oh well. 30fps is still nearly double the PS3 frame rate. =P

Again, in the other video the wrinkles very clearly shift and move in the PS4 version.

They fade in and out on ps4, mostly due to lighting, but watch her move back and forth in the ps3 version at the requested time or a few seconds later. The wrinkles completely shift.

Why did they let it through on the PS3 version you mean?

Is there a YouTube video of exploring with the torch? I don't remember it being like that on PS3 - felt more like you only had the normal hard ring of torch light, and nothing beyond. I could be completely remembering it wrong

Wrinkles change in the ps3 version. Sure it's minor, but I wanted to clarify this is what we mean.

Whoa! Why did they take this out. The shifting wrinkles have been in all their games since Uncharted. What happened now? I don't wanna be a hater, but there's clearly some notable stuff missing. The Flash Light thing although really horrible definitely seems like a glitch., but the missing animated wrinkles seem like a deliberate decision to remove. It's not like I'm gonna cancel, but some of these things need to be addressed.

Someone earlier in the thread said that the secondary light bounce effect wasn't enabled in most scenes in the PS3 version, as it was too expensive. I guess in the remaster they had the overhead to enable it more often, but kept the same implementation with it rendering into some tiny-ass low-res buffer.

It's mostly off because the effect is too resource intensive on the ps3. But it does happen in certain areas.

If I had to guess, probably because they're using cutscene models.

If they just didn't notice it, it's possible we'll get it through a patch, but if they did, chances are they tested both and ended up deciding that the better models make a bigger difference than the old ones with wrinkling.

It's a shame, but I'll trust their decision.

Now that is an interesting theory.

Then tbh kid prefer them to leave it off on Ps4 too. I can imagine that being pretty distracting, but I never had any issue with the PS3's 'simpler' torch - it looked great.

That's fairly obvious. But this on PS4 is unacceptable. If they increased the resolution or the image, textures, shadows, they could have increased the resolution of the shadow bounces. After all, it's just another number.

Could be. I'm more worried that they're missing environmental shadows though. The ivy, of which the game has a ton of, shouldn't look more flat than on the ps3

If this is indeed why, then i would take the cutscene models over the cloth wrinkles no questions asked. But hopefully they implement something to the models that enable it so we get the complete package.

Wrinkles change in the ps3 version. Sure it's minor, but I wanted to clarify this is what we mean.

It seems like they might have changed the physics for it. The PS3 version has more movement on the lower back but there are still changes to the wrinkles on PS4. Up near her shoulders there's significantly more in the way of the wrinkles moving on PS4. It's different but not removed.

To me it really is. It's one of little touches that always gave their character models a little more life. Of course it's not full blown soft-body physics, but at least it gave the illusion that the detail wasn't just a painted on texture. A lot of people in this thread seem to shrug it off as unimportant but little touches like this and lighting (shadows) go a long way to make the whole thing more believable.
