**SPOILERS** TNA Impact-Spike TV Tapings (2 Weeks)
Date Added: September 27, 2005
Story By: Ryan Clark
Thanks to Richard Trionfo of PWInsider.com for these:

Richard Trionfo called in the following spoilers from the first-ever TNA Impact taping for Spike TV:

Before the taping start, America's Most Wanted came out and said that they alligned with Jarrett because the fans gave them nothing after three years of their hard work. NWA champion Jeff Jarrett came out, gloating. Raven tried to hit the ring but held back by security in the entrance ramp. Jarrett and AMW without saying anything extra.

*Jeff Hardy was about to be interviewed by Mike Tenay, but Rhino came to the ring. Abyss then came to ringside from a different area. Security separated everyone.

*AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels, Jeff Hardy, Team Canada, and 3 Live Kru came to the ring. America's Most Wanted, Jeff Jarrett and Rhino came out to the heel ramp. Raven came out on the babyface stage by himself. Tito Ortiz came out. It wasn't clear what the segment was designed to do.

Xplosion:

*NWA Tag Team champions The Naturals & Lance Hoyt defeated Elix Skipper & Cassidy Riley & David Young.

Impact Episode One - Airing 10/1:

*TNA X-Division champion AJ Styles pinned Roderick Strong with a rollup. Christopher Daniels came out to ringside, trying to distract Styles but it didn't work. The finish was screwed up.

*Shane Douglas interviewed Monty Brown.

*Monty Brown pinned Lex Lovett with the Pounce.

*Backstage, Raven was attacking everyone in sight.

*They aired a video package on the X-Division.

*Chris Sabin defeated Petey Williams and Alex Shelley in a Three-Way match. Sabin pinned Shelley with a Cradleshock. Williams hit the Canadian Destroyer on Sabin after the bell.

*Backstage, Shane Douglas tried to get a work with Larry Zbyszko, who entered an office with former UFC star Tito Ortiz.

*Jeff Hardy fought Rhino to a no contest when Abyss attacked Hardy. The lights went out and Sabu hit the ring to make the save.

*They aired footage of Jeff Jarrett's NWA title win over Raven in Canada. They showed Team Canada's Scott D'Amore coming into Jarrett's locker room after the title change telling him that their plan came together, revealing D'Amore helped set up the scenario for the title change.

*NWA champion Jeff Jarrett and America's Most Wanted came to the ring. Jarrett brought out Scott D'Amore saying he was the man responsible for bringing Jarrett back to the NWA title. D'Amore said that he kept his part of the bargain and it was time for Jeff to do the same. 3 Live Kru's music hit and they came to the ring. Konnan grabbed the ring mic and said that Jarrett was putting the crowd to sleep. All six brawled. Team 3-D hit the ring from backstage, debuting. They hit the Deadly Death Drop on both members of AMW as Jarrett escaped. Jarrett went up the ramp but Kevin Nash appeared from behind and stopped him. They brawled into the ring and Nash hit the Jacknife powerbomb on Jarrett. Nash grabbed the mic and challenged Jarrett for a title match at Bound for Glory. Devon Deadly then grabbed the mic and challenged AMW to face them next week on Impact. BRD took the mic and said to everyone in Stamford, "Trademark this." That phrase was also on the back of their T-shirts.

*Between the tapings, Roderick Strong came to the ring and said he could defeat AJ Styles and challenged him for a rematch. AJ Styles won with a Styles Clash, so they retaped the original bout.

Impact Episode 2 - Airing 10/8:

*They showed footage of Raven being taken away by security.

*3 Live Kru defeated Team Canada when Ron Killings hit an Ax Kick on Eric Young for the pin. Kip James watched the match from the top of the ramp. After the match, Team Canada attacked BG James. Kip James made the save, but Konnan got in Kip's face.

*They aired a promo pushing the Ultimate X match at Bound for Glory.

*Christopher Daniels defeated Matt Bentley and Austin Aries in a Three-Way match with Angel's Wings on Aries. During the match, Traci Brooks was with Bentley. Petey Williams came to ringside to grab Brooks, but was attacked by Sabin.

*They aired a video pushing Bound for Glory.

*They ran a video pushing Rhino.

*Abyss pinned Sonny Siaki with a Black Hole Slam.

*They showed a Samoa Joe video.

*Larry Zbyszko announced that Tito Ortiz would be the special referee for Jeff Jarrett vs. Kevin Nash at Bound for Glory. Jeff Jarrett came to the ring. Kevin Nash came out. They brawled inside the ring. Ortiz grabbed Nash and choked him down, then went after Jarrett when Jarrett went after the downed Nash.

*Backstage, Shane Douglas interviewed Christopher Daniels, who said he was going to right the wrong at Bound for Glory in his Iron Man match. Daniels said he would face three opponents of AJ's choice on next week's Impact (episode three) within 15 minutes. AJ came out and accepted.

*Team 3-D defeated America's Most Wanted, DQ when Gail Kim debuted, hitting the ring and lowblowing BRD. Jeff Jarrett hit the ring. AMW gave the Death Sentence to both members of Team 3-D. Jarrett broke a guitar over BRD's head and AMW hit Devon with a chair. 3D was left bleeding in the ring.

Man, Sabu gets around. There's a local league out here called the AWWL, which airs some hellaciously bad TV eps on Saturday nights, and he's in half their matches.

I wonder if he'll wrestle at my mom's next birthday party.

I'm not reading those damn spoilers! Which is odd, because I've been reading smcakdown spoilers since the show came out. I am so pumped for TNA that I really want to be suprised by everything on the show.

I'm right there with ya. MAJORLY PUMPED.

I'm just about done with WWE, homecomeing or not. Their talent is green, the in ring sucks lately and the PPVs are disappointments. Fucking DQ finishes in title matches... ERGH. Got Dusty Rhodes booking written all over it.

I don't bother watching Smackdown anymore, RAW I've been turning off about half way through any more, where as TNA I watch the whole show and am liking a vast majority of it.

Definetly looking forward to ROH on the 14th and meeting some of these guys. From everything I've heard is that most of these guys are real class acts and actually APPRECIATE their fans for supporting them. As long as you are civil that is.

Anyone want to provide a ROH newb about what to expect when attending a show? Sitting 3rd row so I'll be posting pics as well.

I love TNA if only because of a few old-school moves like piledrivers and powerbombs and stuff like that.

I can only watch suplexes and body slams for so long.

The Canadian Destroyer is awesome. I'm suprised no one has broke their neck on it yet.

And I'm not reading any damn spoilers! I'm so psyched TNA is starting on television again. I've removed all of that WWE crud from my tivo season pass list.

I haven't watched TNA in a long ass time. Is Raven still bald and do Hall & Nash still wear the Elvis suits?

I still can't believe Spike TV is putting this at 11:00pm. They have scored a show they can potentially market as "real wrestling" in order to give WWE some strong competition and they put it on a shitty time slot. I mean, what the fuck can they possibly be showing at 9pm on a friday or saturday, that poker & a movie crap? More shitty car shows?

No Joe on the first two shows seems kinda silly. Besides AJ and maybe Daniels he's prolly the most over guy in TNA. Other than that I cant wait!

Raven has hair now. Hall is gone and Nash hasnt been seen in like 8 months(and nobody has missed the bum) but I dont think he'll be dressing like Elvis again.

We as TNA fans need to spread the word (our own little viral marketing) and get people to tune in and ensure the health and growth of the superior TNA product.

I have a feeling the Saturday slot is not a permanent home. If the ratings are good enough they'll have no choice but to move them to a better or primetime spot.

But I'm curious.. why no Joe? Is he in Japan this week?

I miss Nash. It was fucking comedy gold when he fell on his ass trying to do a powerbomb and then acted like he was all cool leaning against the ropes at Destination X.

I'm gonna try to get my friends to watch Saturday night. I'm playing poker with al the guys I used to watch wrestling with back in high school. But when they ask who is in TNA that they've heard of they prolly wont want to. But I'll just tell them its the people they havent heard of they should be watching for.

The 11 p.m. start time might be good, as its out of prime time hours and can be a little more flexible with their content than it would have to be should it be in the prime time programming block.

I hope you people are doing your duty and watching this... DAMN is this good stuff.

Much better than the past 3 months of WWE product.

HAIL SABIN!

It's all good, until we were treated to a match from WWE quality hoss Monty Brown. Terrible on the mic and boring inside the ring. All the X Division love totally makes up for it though.

Shit, now I wanna pick up the AJ Styles figure from Toy Biz.

SHIIIIIIIET. Sabin got impaled into the mat.

Also, what does he call that DVD into a michinoku driver move he used for the finish?

I've got TWO.

Got the one in the black and the red one that came with the ring.

I've actually got all the TNA figs and have them displayed. I'll snap a pic or two.

GOD DAMNED GREAT X-DIVISION THREE WAY!

CRAAAAAAADLE SHOCK!

Well at least the Dudleys are now where there's an actual Tag Team Division.

I met them the day before they signed the contracts for TNA. They were selling the Team 3-d shirts at the Indy show that night.

Devon, great guy... bubba... bit of an ass, but still cool.

Hell of a shwo though, something for everyone. TNA and Spike should both be happy at the result.

Here's hoping they do well in the ratings, and get moved to Mondays at 9.

But I have to say I was enjoying that last segment, but then Nash came out and ruined it for me :lol

True...but that's Spike's doing. As well as Jarrett as champ.

TNA is just going to undercut them by making the X-title more valuable.

Think of it like this

NWA Title: Title so casuals can watch.

X-Title: the title WRESTLING fans follow.

TNA tonight got aq couple of my friends to become regular viewers. They were hooked within a minute of AJ vs Strong. AJ made Strong look like a million bucks.

Jarrett and Nash are names that the average WWE/WCW fan recognizes, so I think part of the TV deal was to have them and other former WWE big names sorta run the show and be given the spotlight to lure in the WWE audience.

This was the first of any TNA product I had seen. Well, that's not true. I watched about 5 minutes of the show when it was on Fox Sports Net, and was nonplussed. I had tried to avoid any spoilers, because I wanted to be surprised, although I knew the Dudleys were coming. I watched this show much like I'd watch a pilot for a traditional show; it's hard to jump right into your storylines and everything while trying to establish who these characters are. I liked most of what I saw of the X-Division stuff, although it seemed a bit too much of a spotfest for me-especially in that 3-way. I'll have to go find that Daniels/Styles match everyone was talking about, because I'm sure that's a better indicator of an X-Division match.

What I liked:
+ They did a real good job of introducing their characters and talent with the video packages.
+ Mike FREAKIN' Tenay! I forgot how much I missed The Professor.
+ That six-sided ring is great. I thought it'd be a gimmick, but it seems to give the guys more room to move, which I'm sure comes in handy in X-Division matches.
+ The production values are much better, compared to what I saw on FSN. I didn't seem like I was watching a low-budget alternative to the WWE. And I loved the footage of the "Controversy in Canada". Very well shot and produced.
+ No mention of the WWE. Part of WCW's problem, especially near the end, was that they were overly focused on the WWE product, bashing the product endlessly, instead of focusing on their product.
+ Giving away the first 30 minutes of the PPV for free? Brilliant. I will turn it for it, although I'm not sure I'm ready to start dropping money on PPVs again.
+ TNA DVDs coming on on Tuesday. I'm definitely going to pick some of those up to see what I've been missing.

What I didn't like:
- This was the first set of X-Division matches I've seen, but they seemed overly gimmicky and relied too much on the "spot, setup, spot" routine that I hated in ECW. A ten-minute spotfest does not equal workrate, at least in my opinion. But like I said before, I'm sure that's not indicative of the product.

-Who was that color guy? He talks too much, and to the detriment of what I'm watching. Sabu's entrance is probably the most obvious entrance ever, shut thefuck up and let me enjoy it. Meanwhile, Shane Douglas is relegated to backstage announcer?

-That backstage stuff. While kept to a mininum, it seemed forced and was poorly shot. I couldn't even tell who was swinging that trash can at random wrestlers. Raven, I presume? They gave no reason for it, and cut away from it too quickly for me to tell what's going on. And Larry Zybysco...ugh. If you're advertising your product as 60 minutes of action, spare me the backstage stuff unless you're going to do it well.

WTF?:
? Monte Brown's finisher is a SHOULDER TACKLE?! Really?
? For all the talk about how they're this exciting alternative to the WWE, we still get a Main Event Interview? With Jeff Jarrett, Road Dogg, Konnan, K-Kwik, The Dudleys, and Kevin Nash? Swap out Jarrett for HHH, and you're talking about some variation of the WWE product I've been watching for years.
? Huh? Jeff Jarrett has been World Champion everywhere he's been?

All in all, I enjoyed it. Not sure if I would have watched it had I not been home sick, or if I had to watch it at 11 instead of 8 (thank YOU, DirecTV!), but I liked it enough to set the TiVo for next week's show. All in all, I *want* to like this product, but I didn't really see anything yet that's all THAT different from the current WWE product.

? You're saying you didn't see innovative, awesome moves tonight that you may have seen for the first time? I know I'm bored to death watching the WWE guys do the same bodyslams and clotheslines repeatedly... it's such a relief to watch ROH and TNA where the guys actually innovate and show skill in their wrestling. I love watching the chain wrestling, reversals and unique linked moves these guys do.

I can agree with you that tonight was a spotfest, but that was mostly out of necessity because of the short time they had, but please check out some of the recent PPVs. The 3-way Daniels/Styles/Joe match is probably the greatest wrestling match I've ever seen.

Tonights show was more of an introductory show. Basically, they wanted to establish who the stars of the promotion are. And given that they only had an hour to do so, I think they did a great job. Although they could have picked a better opponent for Rhino than Jeff Hardy.

What you saw tonight of the X-Division is only the tip of the iceberg. Just stay tuned, and prepare for some of the greatest matches you will ever see.

I mean, yeah, that's what I'm saying. I saw a lot of innovative, acrobatic spots that I'd never seen before, and yes they were unarguably cool. But I saw a lot of innovative, acrobatic spots that I'd never seen before in ECW too. Some of those spots just required too much suspension of disbelief for me. Like that Canadian Destroyer move. It was cool, but it was obvious that Sabin was doing all the work there. In fact, for a second, it looked like Sabin was reversing whatever move Williams was trying to hit him with.

Like I said, I'm sure the short length of the matches had something to do with me not being all that impressed. It certainly felt like they were told "get out there, hit your spots, and get out of there-we've got to get to that Raven/Jeff Hardy match!" I'd have rather them nix that match and give the Styles and the 3-way matches more time, but I can understand why they had that match in there.

Wow. I think I've spent more time writing about wrestling in the past fifteen minutes than I have in three years. Dear God, my Smark Suit is calling me from the closet...must....resist the pull...

EDIT: Thanks Brian Fellows, for that clip. I'm downloading it now...

? Huh? Jeff Jarrett has been World Champion everywhere he's been?
-They were really going for a spot fest to show "LOOK HOW CRAZY THE X DIVISION IS!" And the X Division is crazy and is full of crazy spots, but they also tend to be really fantastic matches. See the AJ Styles vs. Daniels vs. Samoa Joe match from Unbreakable, which someone posted, I think, in the Raw thread. So yeah, the three way match tonight, while fun, was a bit more forced than a lot of other X Division matches I've seen.

-I hate the color commentator, and I've always hated him since the first time I saw Impact (which was admittedly only a couple months ago). Who the hell is he anyway?

-And yeah, TNA backstage stuff is just no good. That's the one area that they're really weak. Part of it has to do with the fact that they shoot that backstage stuff separately and not in the flow of the show, and part of it has to do with the fact they simply don't have the budget/production value the WWE has (and let's face it, production and pagentry is what WWE gets by on these days).

-Yeah, Monty Brown's finisher is retarded. He sucks, but for some reason he seems fairly over and they really push him.

-I didn't see the end of Impact tonight, but a main event interview is pretty surprising. It's really not TNA's style, but I imagine they did it to parade all those familiar names out there. I'm pretty sure that was solely for the sake of casual viewers so they get them to say "hey, I know that guy!"

EDIT: Looks like somebody beat me to the punch on the Styles-Daniels-Joe match. :D

Sorry, but I still asbolutely cannot stand that 6-sided ring. I still think it's the stupidest idea ever. Worse than any of those 365 WCW travesties. I just can't take any matches seriously. I figured that eventually I'd get used to it, and the X-Division guys have done some creative things with it, but it's just so dumb looking. Especially during non-X-Division matches. They were doing fine with a regular ring and there was no reason to change it.

TNA will never ever become the #1 wrestling promotion in the USA as long as they're using that retarded 6-sided ring. I will personally hunt, kill, and eat a raw crow, videotape it, and post it on GAF if TNA becomes the #1 promotion while using a 6-sided ring.

Well, he is a football player...it makes sense for that to be his finisher. I actually dig the POUNCE.

And on a side note, I was hoping that AJ/Roderick wouldn't be a squash. I understand why it was, but its a shame because those 2 could go 20 minutes together.

Why NOT a 6 sided ring? It works in Mexico....

Besides ther'es a very logical reason for having it. It's not for the sake of being different. There are actually practical reason as to why they switched to that style of ring. It's a larger work area, tighter ropes, and yes does set them apart from the tradition of US wrestling using a standard 4 sided ring.

Besides if you're focusing on the ring and not the fabulous work the X-division guys (the REAL TNA, as said by TNA themselves) then you are watching it for the wrong reasons.

it hought the ring was odd at first, but after seeing it used I love it.

No one is saying they will be #1 anytime soon. they are far too young of a company and can't fight McMahon's money yet. But at this point they are the better product.

One thing though... THEY NEED TO TOUR NOW!!!!!!!!

BINGO! THe spotfest was a nice idea of some of the action that you'll expect to be seeing in the future. I'm with you Liu in that I think an hour is just not enough time to spotlight the amount excllent young and VERY talented workers on their roster. The roster is so good top to bottom that they NEED 2 hours every week.

TNA seems to be doing just about everything right. Partnerships with NJPW and ROH, partnering with Wal-mart for DVD exclusives, doing EXCELLENT PPVS month in and month out and appealing to all kinds of fans. The workrate and spot mark (me) and the casual WWE or former WCW mark.

If you are new to TNA do yourself a favor and go to Wal-Mart and pick up TNA anthology: The Epic Collection. It's their first 2 3 hour PPVs as well as Lockdown. You get all three 2 disc set for $20. DAMN good deal.

Nah, at the last PPV the X Division match was the main event. They are going to be pushing both titles as equals.

Yes.

I've never liked spot matches, particularly when you see guys getting hard kicks to the head, then still going into their own power moves as if it was nothing but a fly that landed on his face. It's awful ring psychology, and I despise that sort of shit. But I don't want to write off the whole division based on last night.

Watching it right now. The opening match was pretty good. No where near either guys best performance but still good.

The Monty Brown match was just a squash but he does have one killer fall away slam heh. He should be the champ very soon.

The 3 way started off kinda sloppy and they tried to be a little too cute. But after they came back from the break they kicked it into high gear and finished off strong.

Hardy vs Rhyno was pretty "meh" but well it was Jeff Hardy so what do you expect.

All the video packages for the guy who arent on the show tonight are very well done and TNA's voiceover guy is awesome.

Taped the show and just watched it.

The promo videos were good, and AJ Styles of course still amazes me. They should've at least introduce the names of the jobbers, or at least built the debut of Impact on Spike on a PPV level instead of having a Heat/Velocity/WWF Superstars/WCW Saturday Night rip-off. They showed us the potential, but didn't deliver. And that Rhino vs Hardy match was a C quality WWE match at best.

But now I remember why I got bored while watching TNA on ESPN Classic. Jarrett, 3 Live Krew, Nash and 95% of the mic work just make me groan. 3 Live Krew might be the most embarrassing stable to watch since The Oddities. And Mike Tenay must be having those wet dreams again by calling Nash "Big Sexy" on network television. I thought he dropped that crap, Big Sexy, how the fuck can someone take you seriously, especially when the guy already lost his appeal 10 years ago.

On the good side, the whole production got cranked up a little bit with a nice intro, and the whole crowd was pumped up.

Overall, first half was a decent showcase towards new fans, and last half had a WCW vibe to it, which of course they need to get rid of; it makes TNA feels like a 2-dimension wrestling promotion at the moment. And I wouldn't be surprised to see TNA rise to Monday nights, only to get buried by Jarrett and his fellow teammates.
