To have xbox's DD5.1 you need a second pair of cables on TOP of component?

Jeebus, i didnt know that, and it sucks because my dvd receiver doesnt have a digital port or whatever is required for these cables. I thought that monster component cables came with the whole package? The guy then told me that i would only be in DLPII with these cables, god freaking damnit :(

Someone please tell me he was just trying to sell me a bigger dvd receiver :*(

I bought the monster component cables for now, at least the image quality should go up the wazoo compared to composite.

You need a digital sound cable for true 5.1. Not sure what type it is with the monster cable one, but usually it's optical. And it's just ONE quite thin cable (fiber optic)

yah he's correct. the digital out is on the video cable and not the box. it sucks very much so. I don't know why the console was designed that way.

/edit missunderstood you there. I thought you were complaining on that the toslink out wasn't on the box itself.

Component cables (Red/Green/Blue) only supply the video signal. For Dolby Digital, you need a digital audio output system too, which means an optical cable (and a home theater system that has a plug for it). I'm not sure if MS supports it, but there are both coaxial and optical digital audio standards.

Dunno what you're talking about by "dvd receiver" though. Some sort of integrated thing?

The dvd receiver outputs the 5.1 to the speakers, so anything i want in 5.1 has to go to the receiver's audio input, but it doesnt have digital, it supports all damn audio formats but for output only, meaning a dvd movie that has DD 5.1 will be output in digital, but there's no input :\

I think i'll exchange it for another receiver this week, only 50 $ more and it can contain 5 dvds rather than one like mine.

Sheesh, should've asked before buying :( I just saw DD5.1, DTS, DPL, DPLII and some other audio formats and assumed that everything was a-ok.

get the HD av box, it's only like 15-20 bucks, then you can use whatever component and optical cable you already have.

WHAT?!

The dvd receiver, player or whatever, the 6 speakers connect to it. There's an audio in, but its standard red/white ports, there's no optical in. The dvd player internally can output DTS and DD in digital to the speakers, but since there's no in, i cant have xbox's optical cable plug in the dvd player, so i end up not having DD5.1 from any outside perephicals, i only have it from dvds.
