To soar into the skies... Cloud

Shamelessly stolen from SA.

An amazing little student game made from some very talented folks at USC. It's basically a game where you fly around and collect clouds and push them around. But the description really doesn't do the game justice, there's an overwhelming sense of peace when you play the game. The production values are outstanding and the small little orchestral loops really add to that calming atmosphere throughout the entire game.

A few pics to also show the game.

You play by trying to guide the clouds around. Basically, holding left-click on the mouse lets clouds gather around you, right-click is looking around, space is to stop instantly. Shift lets you "collect" clouds and ctrl lets you release clouds.

I mean, it's more of a collection of short demos at this point, but you need to gather clouds (not collect), which means you need to go around and slowly build up this armada of clouds. Be careful not to move too fast or the clouds can't keep up.

Level 1 is basically just collecting clouds (a tutorial). Level two you need to suck them up and use CTRL to build the lollipop shape in the sky. Level 3 is the weirdest were you need to gather clouds into a huge mass and then push them up against the dark clouds to turn them into rain and eventually have them disappear.

Keep on playing with it, don't rush, just enjoy the soothing experience.

Try playing it with Enigma playing on the speakers. Theres a 1/10th chance you'll see jesus/reach Nirvana.

I've sent out the Amir0x signal, now to install this game.

Anyone noticed it was produced with the Electronic Arts Game Innovation Grant?

This could not be timed more perfectly with the news of Paul Anderson doing a Castlevania movie. I believe this game has saved my life.

It's 30 some odd MB, gonna be a few hours.

Its worth it. I am not kidding. The little preface almost teared me up.

Here ya go - You may ban me for the amount of time it takes you to DL it if you are not happy with it.

Such a wonderful find. Thank you.

It's little games like these that make you appreciate that humanity still has a chance to surpass what you believe.

Haha, don't say that. I might just SUDDENLY decide to dislike the thing then! ;)

I'm downloading.

Edit: I was going to post to ask why the hell it doesn't work, but now I see it requires a minimum of 1Gb RAM. Ah well, looks fun though.
I'm playing it with 700 odd MB Ram.

I'm running it with 512mb here just fine.

Amir0x - not sure where he's getting specs from but they are obviously wrong.

Crappy ass 2.0ghz pc with 521mb memory here.

Booklet on the main page says the requirements are:

System: > 2.8 P4
Memory: > 1Gb RAM
Video Card: > Radeon 9700 or > 64Mb
Hard Drive: > 150Mb

I'm not sure if the ">" is actually implying "greater than" (probably isn't), but those numbers are still out of my reach and it doesn't work for me.

I am far lower on 2 specs and it runs flawlessly.

EDIT: sorry 3 - I have a RADEON 9550

It's a charming and calming game. They nailed the presentation down and really made it feel like a complete product for an indie title. Fun to fly around for a bit, check it out.

Press 'Tab' to change the rendering method on the clouds. The grid visuals makes it eaiser to play the game albeit you loose the visual oomph.

I'm playing it just fine on a 600mhz celly w/ 128mb ram and geforce 2 pro.

Anyway, it's pretty calming and fun. Considering the control of everything, it would be great for Revolution. :)

It's a nice game. Very calming and soothing. Both the music and the visuals help to lend to this soothing effect that the game has. It is very brilliantly put together for an indie title.

Definitely worth checking out.

i don't get it

nope, tried all that. doesn't work. all i can do is fly around. can't gather any clouds at all. nothing happens.

The game starts, but my mouse isn't showing up on the menu screen. My specs aren't anywhere near the minimum. Crap.

Edit: Nvm, it works. Sweetness.

Works fine for me but the controls seem kinda arkward. I keep flying off and changing view when I don't mean to. Nice tho'

When I'm on my deathbed I'm going to play this and find ultimate peace. :)

Don't pay attention to the system requirements.
Runs ok on a:
xp 1900
512 MB
Gforce 3 ti 200

Would look better on a high-end vid card though..

I have no idea why anybody would praise this game. Sure I'm running it on a low-end system, but the controls are so awkward that I can't do anything but change the camera angle. I'm even following the controls in the readme file, but the readme appears to be completely wrong.

Devestating for 2 reasons:
~ its painfully close to one of my own Games Design concepts.
~ cutscenes and menu's run fine, but I assume when it tries to go to gameplay, it all just goes black and the level music is playing but i cant see anything. I have a Radeon 9600 pro. Disappointed I can't play this!

Ok, so gathering clouds doesn't seem to work for me on the tutorial level, but I can play the lollipop and evil factory level. I think the atmosphere provided by the level preludes and music is better than playing the actual game itself. Controls are kinda clunky and I don't like how slowly I have to fly so that my cloud doesn't fall behind.

This is where the term indie project comes into call. Closest thing to something this enjoyable is probably Porrasturvat.

Naaaaaaaanananananna na na katamari clooouuudddyyyyyy

We <3 Katamari had a cloud collecting level as well and playing this cloud game makes me want to try that level again.

Cloud game needs more CLOUDS!

ack, that really hurt my eyes.... and I keep seeing a smal black spot when I look at white stuff

great music and presentation though

I'm playing with a:
GeForce 5200 FX 256MB
512 MB RAM
AMD Athlon 1.1 Ghz

And it runs just fine (slowdown here and there, but very smooth for the most part)
