This will arrive on the 1st September with CMR and will feature 12 players Wi-fi mode.
Thnks to JF for the screens.

its still pretty DC to me. Certainly not PS2 level by any stretch. Just noticed the top image, which at least seems to have some reflections on the car - and some mighty dithering.

Still, fingers crossed it'll play well. Codemasters are a bit all or nothing when it comes to TOCA games. Very difficult to predict whether they'll be fun to play or not.

What DC game with different cars on the screen looks better. Closest one I can think of is Le Mans but thats iffy.

Yes, and especially Gran Turismo Portable.

Yes too bad Polyphony has disappeared from the radar after the GT4 Pal release.
They must be hard at work on GT5 and GT4 Mobile working 24h/24h under the crazy Kutaragi.
Hopefully they'll come back with somthing at the Tokyo Game Show.

I think the reason we aren't seeing GTP is that Kaz said he doesn't want it to be GT4 in portable form anymore. He wants its own game. Which is good, except the way it going to be long now.

Are you hardcore GT4 guys concerned at all about control on the PSP - loose analog nub aside, it would seem that going from, say, the Logitech wheel to the PSP's digital buttons (correct or no?) would be kind of a step back.

Doesn't matter to me since I always put the pedal to the metal. But I always assumed the hardcore group is pretty picky about handling, accerleration and braking subtleties, what with all the tweaking and what not.

Any word on whether the the physics or handling will be altered to make it more PSP friendly?

It won't be as good as with the DFP, but i've played GT beofre with digital buttons before so it shouldn't be too bad.

Err no.

First of all, MSR has few cars on screen. However, more importantly, the cars in MSR look like absolute shit and also lack any sort of lighting (dunno about the Toca cars).

Also, look at some of those background details. See that building in that background? It's a completely flat texture! Not a good example...

PSP is starting to evolve past DC level graphics. In two years I expect it to match or surpass the best PS2 games. :D

ok, if you are really thinking Toca and PSP graphics in general are going 'beyond' Dreamcast levels you need to start holding your psp's a little farther from your eyes while playing : P

I would agree that knowledge in modelling and using environment mapping has been perfected, or has evolved since those days, but other than displaying less cars on screen, GT1 with filtered textures wouldn't look much worse than this at all on such a small screen, and the tiny size allowes for drastic poly reduction and LOD levels without cars looking too square.
The number of cars on screen is more of a cpu/ia intensive task rather than graphical, especially when talking about games like gt; even on current gen consoles (say, xbox) Toca uses a few tricks; for example only cpu controlled cars near the player are subject to physics and have some kind of ia: all farther vehicles are replaced with "drones" which merely move along the circuit ignoring any physics or ia.

Having said that, Toca Psp looks very, very good.

One question: are the developers still being limited to use 222MHz, or they have access to the full power now? If still limited now, then expect to see some amazing graphics later...

They're still limited afaik.Sony said it would allow to use the full 333MHZ when a new model with a longer battery life is available.

333 MHz + 3D really drains the battery...

Wipeout Pure looks awesome at 60 fps, but damn, the battery drains very quickly.

Too bad the PSP might be dead by the time that happens.

Unlike shitty Ridge Racer where every race plays out the same we actually have a racer that has a lot of cars on the screen at once.

I want GT4 mobile though.

Le Mans was impressive for its dynamic time and weather effects.
