Today is the 1 year anniversary of one of the most insane days in American news

I remember where I was. I was at work at my desk. I overheard the CO of the company walk in to the office of our head of IT. He said that Trump was "finished". "It's over." I take no pleasure in saying how wrong he was.

The Onion had a great article with the headline, "Trump: ‘I Know That Was Pretty Bad, But Let's Just Say You're Going To Want To Save Your Energy'"

The last sentence was key:

At press time, Trump was standing at 44 percent in the national polls.

Obviously it plummeted a day after, but considering this was also after the first debate and the tax return story, it was pertinent. Hillary was pretty much leading at all times except for right after the Republican convention, but we never really saw a 20-point lead that you'd almost think you'd see with a candidate with Trump's lack of discipline.

Remember there was like five minutes after this where Pence refused to be seen with Trump? Oh how morality goes out the window when you win.

We must be about a year from the second presidential debate, too... and that event still shocked me with how much of a bullying brute Trump was.

You can tell Trump felt up against the wall after the release of the tape, so he brings Bill Clinton's rape accusers to the debate. "Classy" doesn't even begin to describe this. It was one of the ugliest tactics I've ever seen. And then he domineers over Hilary physically. Threatens to lock her in jail, etc.

I'd like to think it's more that presidential debates "don't matter", rather than his base actually liked Trump's performance..... because what was on display was a petty, vindictive pig. Could it be that people actually... liked that? I'd hope not. I mean I don't even care what you politics are or if you hate Hilary (I get it)... but to applaud the performance of this school yard bully? *shudder*

Sometimes I will describe how much I hate Trump, and the person I am talking to will think I'm arguing for left-wing politics. Not even. He's just so clearly a caveman and a brute... the kind of person I wouldn't want in my household around my family.
Even the Fox News polls said that Trump performed poorly or lost the debates, all of them. The second one was the only one he ever got close to competent in, all three presidental debates were among the most watched in history and in not a one of them did he not babble incoherently or expose himself for the no-nothing lying bully he is.

It was just unbelievable to me. It was right there in front of everyone, the worst debate or even public speaking performance I'd ever seen. I couldn't fathom anybody voting for him based on what they saw. I still dont understand it, I dont want to. I hope to never be so full of hate that I completely disregard all reasonable thought.

I had a falling-out with a good friend of mine, who is Boricua, over how #45 was handling the PR hurricane relief. He still holds that Hillary would have been "just as bad" due to DNC corruption and of course, Benghazi.

The president took a smelly dump on his people and his country and he said with a straight face that Hillary would have been no better.

I...little makes sense to me in this world.

I kind of wish I hadn't been reminded of this. I thought after this, even Christian American would denounce the orange shitball for advocating sexual assault on women. Nope. Pretty much my entire family voted for him, including grandparents and a ton of people in their churches.

Caring more about "religious freedoms" I guess is more important than anything else.

Many people are single-issue voters and will vote only because someone's pro-life. Many pro-life candidates want this to always be an issue so they have something to campaign on, and they'll try to get a few smaller victories so they can say they've done something, but if they were really serious about it, they'd have done far more to limit abortion access than they have.

They found an incredible way to rationalize it too. "The heroes of the Old Testament had many wives. God sends flawed heroes!"

My thoughts:

Surely Christian America won't stand for a man who is such a poor example for their children.

I was so fucking wrong.

They have zero self respect. Also, only God can judge Trump, cuz everyone makes mistakes, and all that. But we can judge Obama cuz it's called the "white" house for a reason.
