Todd Howard: Annual story expansions for Starfield, hopefully for many years

Look, it's a wait and see thing; but I believe this over Bethesda getting its shit together and starting to release games at a faster pace.

I reckon Starfield will end up being a redemption story.

Obviously I don't know how Shattered Space plays, but I don't think there's any reason to think they couldn't build on and improve on what they've got.

If they aim for releasing yearly expansions to Starfield, this most likely means they want to fill up the release schedule until the next main game, so I wouldn't expect TESVI anytime soon. Shame

But on the other hand, new expansions and regular updates means they can use more resources to address some of the flaws and shortcomings. Not everything as some of them run too deep with their foundations, but even some of them could be a good thing

They're getting their shit together by just expanding what they have. Which is okay. Not what I want personally but okay.

They should (if it's even possible) focus on fixing the base game and making it better, instead of expanding on something mediocre.

I saw on Twitter he apparently said shattered space dlc takes place entirely in hand crafted locations, which sounds great to me. The actual handcrafted places in the base game were cool.

Yep. In the video he compared the scope to Far Harbor and the content takes place in a handcrafted play space, which contains various locations and a city.

This DLC and the up coming updates are the last chance for Starfield to make a significant impact with gamers IMO. I enjoyed the game with all it's faults but Shattered Space needs to deliver a strong narrative and other improvements to convince the masses.

Keep them, second worst game I played last year (first being Firewall Ultra, what a stinker) I'm surprised at how much I didn't like it.

Excited to see the updates that have rolled out since launch and jump into shattered space when it comes out. Havnt played since putting in around 80 hours when it first came out.

Totally and completely proven false by Fallout 76 this year. They just kept quietly adding content for years and it's just now taking off.

Starfield will be really similar I'm sure.

If it's as good as Far Harbor was I'll be happy. Far Harbor was great

Nice. Good news for Starfield fans.
Yeah this is great, I thought they would drop it once Shattered Space is released tbh. Creation kit is bringing in new stuff too now.
Good interview, they touch on the widespread negativity and Todd seem to take it well and see it as a way to understand what is requested within the community. Bummer that he was interupted when he started talking about ground vehicles!

^ You figure there has to be at least 2 or 3 expansions, as that sets up a couple different re-releases and then maybe another version with mods added in, etc.

I was very disappointed with starfield but the expansion didn't even look like main game at all. So if they can truly up the game like that every year I say go for it.

Great to hear, especially if they keep adding to the base game as well. The mining mod was really good if they fleshed that out and added something like it, that would make the game deeper

There's practically limitless opportunity to expand into cool areas or lore. I'm definitely looking forward to getting some answers on the Va'Ruun finally.

One of the game's biggest issue is the story but having the same Team of writers pile on more of it won't fix things.

They need to bring in more competent writers.

I just need a bit more edge to the game. It's too sterile. It needs building on.
I actually want it to be even more sterile. Like Andromeda Strain sterile. We have lots of Cyberpunk stuff already. I'd like stuff where you can use all the data you scan for scientific advancements, or a datalog of some kind. Expand on some of the abandoned NASA stuff. Starfield is the only outlet for that optimistic Star Trek Next Gen / Carl Sagan / NASA stuff. Explore a black hole or something where science is not yet caught up.

But yeah, if they want to go through with darker stuff on Neon too I wouldn't really complain.

The real hurdle is the tech. They gotta either overhaul Creation or build their tech over another foundation.
