Tom Clancy's The Divison is Now Available on PS5 with Enhanced Performance at 60 FPS

"available" as in "free for PS4 version owners" or "buy this new version"?
It's free. They've already released similar 60 fps updates for a lot of their older games.

I wanted to like this game but I don't like bullet sponge bullshit, and I don't care for PvP. It also didn't help that I was a solo. Good on them, I guess. More support is always good, especially for legacy content.

You need to try it again, they reworked the new player introduction with free builds that make quick work of bullet sponges. The build changes the game so drastically the game will spawn 18 bullet sponges (supposedly) and they will drop likes flies. Also nobody plays PvP in Division that much.

And Division 1 and 2 has MORE players than its launch year now. It's insane how good Massive has been doing this Year 7. Back to back great updates.

After all these years why now? 😂
Survival is still a big favourite of the division, which released with Div 1. The new survival is coming next year for div2 and they did a survival week promotion last week. They are doing it again in Jan. So, I would assume the 60fps patch for PS is an added bonus and incentive to get back on survival, and a good training ground for the future release on div 2.

That sounds great. Thank you for the info. I will have to check it out again. Wow it has been that long? That's crazy.

This is really great, they are updating old games so watch dogs might be next?

Even though I have no interest in redownloading The Division, I appreciate the free update, regardless. I wish this would've been possible on PS4 many years ago before I realized that I'm not a "god roll" guy.

It's just a edit in the code when running of PS5, Not as transformative as the Assassin's Creed Syndicate patch that boosted the Resolution & Framerate.
Wouldn't even say it's worth returning to..
Great for those still playing though.

Unless they fix the bullet sponge enemies, I'm not interested
Isnt that the point? To get better weapons and gear? If you killed every enemy like Cod.. wouldnt it defeat the purpose of it being a RPG/loot shooter no?

Sorry, wasnt sure how to explain it myself.

The Division needs online for its core design, offloading complex tasks like AI and loot to servers, which allowed the less powerful original consoles (PS4/Xbox One) to handle detailed worlds, and to manage a persistent shared world for consistent player experiences, preventing cheating and piracy. Even for solo play, an internet connection is mandatory because these server-based functions are integral, meaning the game becomes unplayable if servers shut down.
Technical Necessity
  • Server-Side Processing: The game's AI, physics, and loot generation are handled by servers, freeing up console resources for graphics and detailed worlds, a design choice for the hardware of its time.
  • Persistent World: The online architecture ensures a consistent, shared world where player actions and loot are synchronized across the game, as discussed in various YouTube videos

Thanks for the explanation. I'll give it a try

The Division 2 is undergoing a bit of a renaissance right now. It's gonna be cheap as hell during the Steam sale and there is now New York City DLC so you don't have to roam around dreadful and leafy Washington DC. It's VERY comfy. They even have a Christmas seasonal thing going on. The team they have running the game is making good moves. It doesn't throw the cash store in your face as much as other looters. The series has aged really well compared to its contemporaries.

They've certainly mitigated it in the sequel without making it not be a looter shooter. General moment to moment combat feels a lot more natural. If you turn health bars off it could even pass for a regular video game sometimes. I think they've found a good balance.

I am surprised they kept the cosmetics to a minimum and somewhat on the theme. The Chinese version of the same game (per reddit pics) is full of boobs, bras and neon themed jackets of sort.

Sometime I just roam around slowly doing activities in the city for the immersion of it all.
