Tom Cruise's beliefs in Scientology are based on misinformation, according to US showbiz magazine Entertainment Weekly - after editors checked facts from a recent interview with the movie star. Just weeks after accusing Brooke Shields of being "misinformed" after she championed anti-depressants for helping her deal with post-partum depression, Cruise made a couple of sweeping statements to Entertainment Weekly reporter Benjamin Svetkey. The writer chose to check Cruise's comments and found out he wasn't accurate. Supporting Scientology claims that psychiatry is "a Nazi science", Cruise stated, "Jung (Carl Jung, the father of modern psychiatry) was an editor for the Nazi papers during World War Two," which the magazine's researchers discovered is untrue, according to the New York Center For Jungian Studies. The movie star continued, "Look at the experimentation the Nazis did with electric shock and drugging. Look at the drug methadone. That was originally called Adolophine. It was named after Adolf Hitler." The magazine also questions Cruise on this point, explaining, "According to the Dictionary Of Drugs And Medications... this is an urban legend."

$50/hour, but no kissing on the lips and colors must be pre-separated
Do we honestly need to scrutinize the guy to realize he's crazy?

The souls of dead aliens will cure us!
Don't put faith in medicine that actually restores the proper levels of chemicals in our brain.

Not to mention Jungian psych is fringe at best.

There's plenty of jokes about this in The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon.

EDIT: Also in numerous works by Robertson Davies.

Musashi Wins!

FLAWLESS VICTOLY!
I don't know about those particular claims, but there are murky issues about Jung's attachment to fascism and I wouldn't rely on the Jungian center to enlighten me about it.

It's still a few leaps from anything Jung did to "psychiatry is a Nazi science."

Jung's influence in psychiatry is pretty marginal. His stuff is more applicable to literature studies than clinical work.

My favorite use of Jung is the many many subtle references in the movie Repo Man.

Tom Cruise is in some pretty good movies, and he's a genuinely nice guy to his fans... he'll give up the better part of the day for them if he can.
Who gives a fuck what he believes?

Can't the world go bother Ashton Cutcher or something?

Except that he's been pushing this scientology crap to everyone else. The constant mentioning of how great it is in interviews, the whole "Holmes digs it", they had fricken Scientology massage tents on the set of War of the Worlds to try to convert stagehands for godsake.

Ahh, the thread hit the standard "who are you to care/who are you to care that we care/who are you to judge how much I care" pop culture thread threshold pretty quick. If there is a more relible indicator of when a celebrity phenomenon has peaked on the internet I've yet to find it.

But this thread is worthwhile simply because it reminded me of The Popinjays and their classic pop love song "Too Jung". Shit, what are the odds of me a) finding my "Flying Down to Mono Valley" CD at home or b) finding the album online.

Everytime I see that WotW trailer that starts with him looking into the camera, with glowy light behind him, I keep thinking he's about to start pitching Scientology.

Whoever is doing their marketing should be fired, their scientology stuff is going to overshadow the releases of their movies.
