As much as people enjoy the conventional multiplayer of TDM/Conquest/CaptureFlag/Domination/HeadQuarters etc, Battle Royale is where it's so incredibly exciting and fun in the long run. CoD understood this when released Warzone 1.0 in 2020 during Covid. For Battlefield to become relevant again, it's not through just great maps and great 6v6 of 64 player TDM/Conquest, it's actually through BattleRoyale similar to what CoD achieved through Warzone. The fact that Battlefield engine can pull off destruction means BattleRoyale in Battlefield can be a major game changer if they do it right.

Is Battle Royale still a thing? I won't play a Battlefield game for BR, but I guess this new generation likes it too much.

Lol

Any everything was looking so good. Knew the other shoe would drop eventually. Sure, waste resources on some tired fad. This being FTP likely means stupid cosmetics are on the way, both for it and normal multi.

Hot take but BFV's Firestorm BR was quite good in my opinion and could even have been successful, I think the BF formula fits well with BR. But they made so many bad decisions with it that it never worked:

1. The mode came out months after BFV's initial launch, while the majority of players already left the game at the time.
2. The mode was very buggy and never really fixed
3. Lack of support or new content added, the mode was published and abandoned almost immediately
4. The mode was locked behind Battlefield V to pay, while all the competition was F2P
5. The same month, Apex Legends was released, which was better in almost all aspects, F2P, a instant-hit and also published by EA who completely forgot about Firestorm and dedicate all their attention to Apex (kinda a reversed BF1-Titanfall 2 situation)

Yeah they have their loyal community but Br was something else, especially in covid times. Pubg reached 3 million on steam. "Ninja" was a thing etc.
Yeah COVID bump was real for everything. But my point is they are still very popular, instead of being insanely popular.

The fact that PUBG still pulls close to million players a day tells you all you need to know.

I'm super excited for this but i feel like the ONE wrong step they are making here is releasing it f2p.

That's a huge reason as to why COD has such a problem with hackers.

Both BF6 and COD Blops7 need to go back to a fully paid BR mode to keep out a lot of the A-holes tha take advantage of the fact that these games are free.

Double edged sword with that one.

They tried to make it paid with V (If memory serves) and it flopped.

You want a fuck ton of players and juicy MTX spend you need to be FTP, otherwise its just a side mode in the regular game.

Hopefully they do something crazy original, using the destruction or something. That could be hectic fun.

I desperately want this to be a good BF game. I was always a BF player over a cod player. Hundreds upon hundreds of hours over the last 20 years of BF, but they lost me with BF1 / V etc.

Fingers crossed this is special.

Yea, they fucked up by going old war. While Battlefield 1 was a good game, people really just wanted a good present day boots ok ground fps, so a lot of people left the franchise just for that fact. Then it didn't help when they released another old war follow-up to that, which was not as good. Then when they tried to come back to at least semi-present day they forgot how to fucking do it apparently lol

Mate.

PUBG
Apex
Warzone(COD)
Fornite

All pulling massive numbers constantly.
They are basically keeping their respective companies afloat solo.

I might check it out but I just cannot get into BR. Too isolated an experience and feels like hide a seek or something and the complete opposite of why I play multiplayer shooters....which is basically to live on the frontline with maximum chaos lol

Yeah totally agree.
Even in Duos or Quads BR feels like im too isolated if thats the right word.

Ill still give it a go to see what the BF spin on BR is all about, but ill almost certainly be found early on in the Metro (im sure they are bringing back the Metro).
