If I'm being honest, Rachet and Clank is one of the best games to be released this generation...amazing stuff Insomniac did there.
Let's dispel any confusion on the topic... the question has never been, can Insomniac make good or fun games?

I'd say it's a mix of several factors why Sony no longer enjoys the "Superman" status it once had. Sony's focus on GaaS, DEI-compliant content, PC ports of major IPs, major price increases, the flood of remakes and remasters, canceled games and game modes, and sequels that take a long time but show little real progres. So some fans have taken off their rose-colored glasses, and on top of that, most of the Sony fanboys and warriors have been banned here by now. Because of that, there's less praise in the threads, and at the same time, people can now criticize without immediately being swarmed 5:1 by the whole defense force. As a result, there's now more justified criticism as well as unjustified criticism. Smaller issues, like poor service, bad refund policies, or the save-game paywall, also play a role now, things that didn't matter before, because everything else was just right.

If this was anything other than Marvel then I might have a little bit of interest. The whole superhero thing is just so oversaturated at the moment that I can't bring myself to care about Wolverine or anything Marvel/DC related.
In addition, although I'm sure the game has come a long way since the leaked footage, I can't help but feel it is going to be a Spiderman clone with some blood and more bad language.

We have gone an entire generation where Sony has released sequels to big PS4 games and they've all just been, more or less, the same game again. A lot of people have seen this pattern and they want more. A lot of people are taking this out on GoY because they tired of the "PS4 first party games... again" thing Sony has going on.

The evolution from Spider-Man to Spider-Man 2 was such as drastic drop in quality that I'm not even a little bit hyped for this one. Imagine the moron who decided that they shouldn't just port all costumes from the previous games because the character that existed for 60 years can't have more costume than the one created 10 years ago. They could've just spat out a bunch of those ugly original suits for Miles if SBI said that they had to match the number of suits with Peters. But that is just a superficial issue caused by laziness and politics. Mysterio and Venom ended up being boring and bad adaptations, nothing from their "original" take was interesting.
The first game was one of the best Spider-Man adaptations we've gotten. It pulled from all media and history of the character and tied them together in a modern way. The second game did the opposite. But I'm ending my rant here, because there are so many things wrong with the second game. As someone who owns every Spider-Man omnibus released and the PS4 Pro themed console, I'm not getting the 3rd game on release. If it actually is good again I'll take a look after a hefty discount.
Hoping Wolverine is done by the people who made the first game good. It's pathetic that the gaming industry can make a sequel with three times the budget and create an inferior product. Especially bad with this game since most of the games map could be re-used too. Top tier example of the degredation of the AAA industry.

Anti-fanboys who are happy to see the pessimism shoes on the other foot after a decade+ of Xbox disintegration; SBI obsessed political hawks; people who don't like superheroes; fans who are genuinely disappointed with how this gen has shaken out and where it's all going.
I am in camp 4. SM2 was a big disappointment. The leaks made this one sound like it was going in the wrong direction. I suspect there was indeed some kind of overhaul after that, given the number of changes at the top level on this game. Sony only has themselves to blame for the narrative shift around PS. They blew a totally easy generation, and are well on their way to blowing the next.

I really wanted to it be to wide linear instead of fully open world. More games need to go back to that. Make them shorter too. Too many bloated games these days.
I could be wrong but Spiderman 2 was released in a very shorter time in comparison. Maybe that's the reason because Wolverine it still take so long?Either case, Spider-Man 2 didn't look great.

To be fair I always thought that Spiderman 1 was greatly overrated.
As a product it's really well made, but I played it once and never had the urge to replay it.
For that reason I never bought Spiderman 2.

There have been far, far worse games released by the big players this gen than anything Insomniac has put out, so I really don't get the discord. I honestly can't see this one looking anything less than stellar if we're talking visuals and general fun factor. It's the gameplay loop that I'm uncertain of atm. For that reason, I'm very keen to see more.

What was broken about Spider-Man 2? I platinumed the game when it released and never had anything broken about it. I mean, some of the missions were woke trash, and MJ (Symbiote MJ) shit was super cringe, but the game played great and I never ran into anything broken or buggy. I hope Wolverine has a better mission structure, I would prefer it to not be open world at all. Insomniac's filler missions are not that great.

Spider-Man 2 was a downgrade compared to the first one in every way except graphics and traversal. Story sucked, characters sucked, pacing sucked, even the combat became convoluted by the end with color coded enemies.
This game is made by the same devs. So pardon for being negative, but I'll stay that way until proved otherwise.

I'm still looking forward to the eventual reveal. But the excitement has died. The game was initially supposed to come out a long time ago, we've seen very little, and one female character model looks, um, off in what we have seen. Coupled with Sony's trend chasing the past few years, and I can't help but need to see some receipts before I possibly get excited again.

Well the first problem is retaining this clown car of leadership. Hermen Hulst is a Spencer tier certified hackjob and Hiroki Totoki is the Satya Nadella of Sony. Only Nadella fits the bill for MS. As long as you have these two saboteurs at the helm, PS will only get worse.
The material problems these two have caused are the following:
Terrible studio management and quality control
Lack of taste
Short term money-grubbing tactics to paper over the decay in actual game production/sales
Multiplatformist sabotage
That is only set to worsen and continue next gen. They think they don't need to sell people on anything now. When Xbox throws itself into Valve's jaws, they're going to think they have license to do whatever. What's worse is that they're throwing in even more problematic variables next gen with a handheld that will gimp the PS6 gen worse than the Series S
and really necessitate an extended cross gen period even beyond what we had this time.
