Tom Holland on Uncharted: One of the best scripts I’ve ever read

Hopefully he’s not just saying that but if they could nail it this could easily be Indy 2.0.

“I read the newest draft of the script on the way over here and it’s one of the best scripts I’ve ever read, like it really, really jumps off the page. I think what Uncharted offers that most video games films don’t is that it’s an origin story to the games. So if you played the games, you haven’t seen what’s going to happen in the film. And if you haven’t played the games, you’re going to enjoy the film because it’s information that everyone else is getting at the same time. But I’m super excited to make that movie and it’s been a long time coming.”

uncharted is not the kind of thing that needs an origin

uncharted dont need no explanation

it's always about the adventure

uncharted 1 and 2 were games that lived in the moment and they went and fucked it up by trying to get in touch with the main characters feelings

getting all sentimental and shit

Very true! In an adventure where we kill (gameplay or otherwise, we still kill a lot of people), it’s kinda moot worrying about their feelings.

My goodness Mr. Holland, don't set your self up with that kind of hype. I mean unless you have only read Spider-Man scripts I get where you are coming from I guess??? Uncharted is not going to be Citizen Kane, you don't need to be a psychic to read those tea leaves.

It'll be dogshit, like everything Hollywoke squeez out these days.
Forgive me if i don't believe this actor clearly trying to drum up hype for a movie he's getting paid for.

You say this like the love story and the camaraderie weren't a part of the first two games.

Uncharted is a fascinating VIDEO GAME SERIES, we'll see if they're able to make a MOVIE out of them.

This is the thing I’ve always thought about an Uncharted series. It’s strength is how well it plays. Are the setting and characters really so incredible and original? I’m not really sure what you are getting from adapting it other than a bit of brand recognition to help you build an audience.

I like Holland but none of his movies have had amazing scripts. He wasnt even allowed to read any of the Avengers scripts. It must be a pretty low bar.

Ah yes, from the actor best known for the crappy Marvel Spiderman Movies ....and that Movie with Rey from Star Wars which was apparently so bad the studio simply decided to not release it, this sure inspires confidence!

I mean..... the formula already exists:

Though I expect the movie to be more in line with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Sounds like another video game movie that abandons what made the games popular.

Why even bother starting with an origin story to begin with? Uncharted 1 and 2 certainly didn't.

Indiana Jones didn’t have an origin until the third film and that’s a classic.

Always give the best story you can first as you may never get another chance. Wasting time on a weak or weaker origin story as opposed to an adventurers golden years isn’t attractive to audiences.

They'll probably try to make it into a franchise if it performs well... so they need to start with a younger dude who will be like 35 by the 3rd movie. Holland's also a teen star, so it's a safer bet with the general public that isn't the 35yo dude that played the games and get wet by Drake's tight jeans while screaming GOTY GOTY GOTY

The guy that played Poe in SW is cool as hell, but is he a lead? Can he bring people to the movies? That's the question.

Ah Naughty Dog and Tom Holland, two things that no one cares about ever since they adopted liberal views. I'm sure the movie will be a dumpster fire.

Druckmann clearly didn’t write it then.
Honestly tho, doesn't seem that Druckman even wrote most of TLoU2 or 1, it's like MGS and their codecs, there it's so much work from other writers yet we perpetuate this one dude that it's the frontman of the show.

On topic, this sounds good. There is no better way to setup yourself for failure than trying to tell the same events of a game in movie format, you are by default taking things away because it's not interactive, i think this is a smart move. The origin story that the games usually allude to but never show completely.

As an example i would put Silent Hill movies, probably the most faithful videogame movies ever but somehow lost almost everything that made the games interesting, you get a lot of the lore and visuals straight out of the game but it completely fails at telling a story that resembles the one of the games. So instead of trapping yourself in trying to tell the exact same events making new ones but keeping in mind the intention and themes of the original, it's way more fitting for this type of adaptation.
