Too Human screens

In the trailer they quote Nietzsche, and "Too human" is actually the title of one of his books. I wonder if the game will explore any themes thought out by Nietzsche. Another game that did was Alpha Centauri.

If I read another Dyack interview filled with his trademark pseudo-intellectual bullshit I think I will vomit.

Too Human shits all over other 360 games. This is a game that doesn't even need to be commented on the graphics department. The art is astonishing. Nintendo are retards for letting SK go. It's the only game I'd buy 360 for (currently) and if it plays as good as it looks I'll definately buy 360 for it.

Wow, I must not be looking at the same video or shots cause I'm underwhelmed. The "intellectual bullshit" is what will make this game good if anything and what I'm actually most looking forward to about it.

This really looks very nice. I like the subtle use of colors in all the scenes. The robot designs in the first picture is the only thing that's not quite up to par with everything else, IMO.

I dont care if this is the shittest game on earth, but for the amount of time and the extentof how much dyack talked this up as the greatest thing ever in nintendo related media, nintendo fans deserve this on a nintendo system.

This is possibly the most pathetic post I've ever seen on the GAF. Wow.

The flying red-eyes look a bit like the buggers from Halo 2.

Dyack interview.

Throughout the game, you will continually augment and enhance yourself, a concept that was integral to the original Too Human, and that's now quite a trend in game development.

Dyack clarified that Too Human is a non-linear action game with a distinct gun and melee combat system that's different than any game we'd like to compare it to, be that Devil May Cry, Onimusha, or what have you. Silicon Knights has hired Hong Kong consultants to instill authentic martial arts moves and to choreograph this innovative new system with Hollywood-like cinematic flair and beauty. Heavy hitters from movies like the Matrix, Chronicles of Riddick, and other films are working right now with Silicon Knights to make it happen.

Too Human will also be online, the details of which he had to hold back. "A big part of this game is its Xbox Live functionality. I love MMORPGs, I love Diablo and games like that, and so Too Human will definitely take advantage of online in a way I'm really excited about.

The days of 60 to 100 hour games are gone. Games are broken into smaller chunks now, and it works in both development design but also it makes more sense in the business climate we're in today."

Wasn't there also something similar to that in Eternal Darkness? It's been awhile since I've played it but for some reason I kinda remember there being a monster that shared the same design elements.

Yay so we get a normal game for the price of three! ($180)

Um...

When I saw these screens, I thought it looks alright for a PS2 game...

Then I read that it's on the 360. AND everyone is amazed.

WTF

I've been waiting for this game for far too long. Ever since the 1st playstation in fact!
It now no longer resembles what it once was, though this is not a bad thing at all. The game and art look amazing. I'm pretty sure that it's setting and gameplay has changed considerably from that of it's early days. I believe it is now set in a technologically superior past rather than future as it was earlier.
I definately can't wait to finally get my hands on it. Once this and Gears of War hit, the 360 is mine.

[edit]oh, i haven't seen the trailer, will have to check that out.
What was Too Human originally like? I never really got around to reading about it.

jeez how lame. When is the last time you played a PS2 game?

Go take a look at some awsome Shadow of Colosus pics and get you head on straight and you troll jacket off.

game would be more fun with a revo controller =(

If this game sales then it will prove that nintendo has made a mistake. If not, SK will have really established themselves as a low profit developer. This is their third chance in recent memmory, they have to make it work

I don't see how.

It's one thing if it's a first person game and your actions correspond exactly to movement on screen, but a third person game like this?

We know the basic idea of the rev controller but we still haven't seen any games for it and anybody playing with it. I don't see how we can say ANY game right now would be better with it. Even for FPS some might prefer to have extra buttons or whatever.

Mechanics:

* Like Eternal Darkness, the player will not need any control over the camera. The system is designed so that the player can see what he or she is doing at all times without the inconvenience and distraction of worrying about camera placement.
* Context-sensitive controls are used to give the player more abilities when the timing is proper.
* As you've seen in the trailer, the animation of Too Human is a key feature of the series. This makes the game much more fun to play, and better for casual gamers.

Gameplay:

* Because there is no manual camera control, both analog sticks are left open for combat use, which opens up many new possibilities for gameplay mechanics.
* Too Human features a mixture of gunplay and melee fighting techniques weaved together. Silicon Knights has even hired consultants from Hong Kong that have worked on box-office giants like the Matrix and Chronicles of Riddick to make sure the moves that Balder busts out are more stylistic and than those of the average videogame.
* Like the original Too Human for PlayStation, cybernetic upgrades give the players new levels of character customization. Players will even be able to transfer their customized character from the first game into the next installment.
* In addition to the single player experience that Silicon Knights has always delivered on, there will be an extensive Xbox Live component to the series as well. Denis Dyack told IGN, "A big part of this game is its Xbox Live functionality. I love MMORPGs, I love Diablo and games like that, and so Too Human will definitely take advantage of online in a way I'm really excited about." Perhaps players can reenact the type of battles seen in the single player game between Balder and his men against the machines? That would be pretty awesome, but at this point we can only speculate.

Story:

* Players take the role of Balder, the Norse God of light. When some malevolent machines driven by artificial intelligence arrive on your planet, it's up to you to lead your men into battle.
* At the start of the game Balder is apparently "too human" and thus can upgrade to become more powerful. His upgrades may include things like cybernetic legs to help him run faster or eye implants to give him infrared and x-ray vision. Players will likely be treated with the moral dilemma over the fusion of flesh and machine. Perhaps the quote at the beginning of the trailer sums this up all too well: "Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become one himself. - Nietzsche" (Interestingly enough, Nietzsche wrote the book Human, All Too Human)

Release dates:

* An official release date has not been announced, though a July EGM article listed Fall 2006, and a new Microsoft fact sheet has it listed for Holiday 2006. Denis Dyack revealed that Too Human Part I is about %50 finished at this time.
* The releases of parts I, II and III will come 12 months apart from eachother.

So, I guess Dyack was over there after all.

Guess this clears up a few things. On the one hand, I am pleased it's turning out to be a more "styalistic" version of Eternal Darkness, but on the other hand, at least at the moment, I'm a tad dissapointed in all the deep storyline that had been planned for the original concept seems to have been lost.

Oh well, I can't wait to play it myself and that will probably happen at E3

Damn right -- we hadcore gamers don't care about animation.

I very much doubt all the deep storyline has been tossed out...just probably spread out more over three games.

The more I read about this game, the more interested I am. Oddly enough, the screens and trailer did nothing for me.

I feel kind of dirty for liking Too Human after all the crap I've given to SK. Well done guys, you got me interested again.

Now I just hope that it doesn't turn into another generic action game, I love beat 'em ups but I want something with a deep storyline and I do dig the idea of cybernetic gods.

Same here. As the Nintendo fan I am, one of my most anticipated games for the Cube was this Too Human, but the concept I had is totally different to what it´s been shown and what´s been told it will be about. Since I´m not getting the Xbox360, I cannot say that I´m disappointed, but well... I just hope the whole trilogy isn´t a total waste of the great concept they once had. For their own good, since I´m not gonna enjoy it v_v

Now it hurts a little less their departure ^_^

I like what I'm reading about Too Human so far (though by splitting it into 3 episodes, judgment as to each episode's $ value will be under greater scrutiny), and while not the most spectacular trailer and screens ever released, they look good and don't do any damage to the enthusiasm either....

Looks great: techno futuristic done right.

Nice art direction too, those screens clearly show a well-rounded sense of composition (balanced lights/darks even color tones, blah blah blah.) Reminds me of what a next-gen Deus Ex might look like.

For some reason it also makes me want a next-gen Vectorman :lol
