At this point, both Naruto and One Piece start being more flexible with their art style/animation. Usually based on which animation director is helming the episode.

edit: the more I think about it the more it bugs me.

He probably just got greedy and thought he'd wait out the chance to steal both Gon's badge and Hisoka's, having no idea regarding the twisted, yet more or less comprehensible logic behind how the latter operates and finding out all too late what happens should someone spoil the mood for him.
