TBF Gintama is pretty much untranslatable and the dub couldn't keep up.
Its one of my top 5 series of all time but even I'll admit that.

Gintama is easily top 3 shonen.
But it's more that it would never get dubbed than anything. I can see it doing decently over here if it magically got a really good dub that somehow managed to adapt all the jokes for a western audience.

Yep, way too many pop culture jokes that no one not living in japan will get, the toilet humor would still work fine though.

Yeah, problem is a good amount of its humor relies on Japanese pop culture. Think of a reverse Family Guy where most of its humor is American pop culture & wouldn't make as much sense in other countries.It's more a matter of what Gintama is and how impossible it is to localize.

Well Vegetas the one with the gun against their heads, but Dende could say Goku instead of Vegeta. Tell Vegeta he got immortality and have him run at Frieza and die, two birds with one stone.
