So, 2001?

The fact that anyone over the age of 14 cares about Gamefaqs character battles, or posts on their boards greatly concerns me

Meh, a lot of us have a weird attachment to where we "started". I still look in on GameSpot from time to time for reasons I don't fully understand

Wha? They're taking over 8 o'clock too? Not that I'm against to more AS, but isn't that a bit too much? I mean, that's a 10 hour AS block now. And 8 PM is way too early to start an adult cartoon block. The kiddies are still up at that time. WON'T SOMEBODY THINK OF THE CHILDREN!?!?!? But seriously, I guess AS is doing really, really well. Maybe now they'll be able to afford to pay the Toonami team. And also that they'll bring back an hour of King of the Hill.

I actually find the boards very useful if I have a specific question on an older game I am playing (and lately, I've been quite the retro gamer). Go to the game board, search for the question, and almost always someone else will have asked it. I suppose I /don't/ post, however.

This part of the NYT piece makes it seem like Adult Swim is doing impressively well, although I admit I'm not in tune with 'TV' numbers in general to have proper perspective.

In explaining the move, Stuart Snyder, the president of Animation, Young Adults and Kids Media for Turner Broadcasting, said the time was right for the additional hour “coming off a record-setting ratings year in 2013.” Not to mention the “increasing demand we are receiving from advertisers,” he said.

The network does not make public its ad-revenue figures, but Mr. Snyder said, “We have consistently had high double-digit annual revenue growth.” The ratings results for the channel have been undeniably impressive: Adult Swim is the top-rated cable network in total day ratings among viewers in the two younger-adult categories, viewers between the ages of 18 and 34 and 18 and 49.

In the late-night period, from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m., the network dominates in the youngest end of that competition. With the exception of recent viewership numbers for Jay Leno, who has been racking up steady wins as he prepares to end his tenure as “Tonight” show host this week, Adult Swim has beaten all late-night competitors in the 18 to 49 category. Over the last 12 months, it has been No. 1 with that group, averaging 1.15 million viewers a night to 1.05 million for Mr. Leno.

Those numbers are insane because it's for late night cable, which usually drops off after 10-11pm. Staying consistently above 1mil viewers in such a late timeslot is definitely a good thing for CN and means the block can continue to grow in the future.

Edit: It's even more crazy they are beating out Network TV in the US because you get that for free over the air while you'd need a cable/satellite provider to watch CN. That number probably doesn't even include those steaming it online, unless it's mentioned in the article.

I can't actually parse what AS could do with that extra hr , there are only so many fox reject shows and also kinda baffled at CN . But hopefully this opens up avenues for a toonnami expansion .

I also expect them to repeat Dandy, just be weird seeing a repeat in the first slot, though I guess they've done it with Bleach too.

I did do a marathon of CN/Toonami one day when they had a crapload of Pokémon movies on and I had nothing better to do.

Guess that means 11:30 will remain with Toonami even after Dandy ends.
I don't think we can make that assumption yet. Nobody here has any idea how much Dandy costs to air or what kind of ad revenue they're making.

I have a hard time believing a repeat of season 1 would appear in the 11:30 slot if they keep it as well, it really does seem weird

Can only imagine how the ratings will look during the Winter Olympics in primetime

February 22nd might be a bloodbath for Toonami. Not only are the Olympics still on, but Ronda Rousey (who's one of UFCs biggest draws now that St Pierre and Silva are done) is headlining a PPV against Sarah McMann, and it will be marketed around the fact that both fighters are Olympic Medalists (Rousey in Judo, McMann in Wrestling).

I normally watch the winter Olympics but I'm boycotting them this year.

If I wasn't boycotting them I'd PVR them and watch Toonami anyways.

The middle of the block held up surprisingly well, I think things look good going forward when Naruto, GitS, and Brotherhood are able to outperform their January averages during a down week. The back end of toonami is as inconsistent as ever, IGPX, Clone Wars and Inuyasha brought in a combined 1,920,000 viewers two weeks ago but 1,426,000 during the last one...that's a big swing.

No need to worry about the front end, that dip is an anomaly.

Remember how in the past when we've had discussions about the back half of the block, and I would say that it's likely that you don't have to worry as much about that? DeMarco confirmed that (in my opinion) with an answer on his Ask.fm page:

Reading some of your comments about the rough state of the anime and action cartoon industries, I feel like you don't seem to have much hope for the future of Toonami, especially since it's the only TV entity that could do perhaps do something about it. It does make me wonder, what more can we do?

Get ALL of your friends to watch. Watch as often as possible, especially between 12-3am! Tell everyone you know on FB, Twitter, etc. That's all we need you to do, and that's a lot! Thanks.

(bold added by me)

Not that something doesn't need to perform well after 3am, it's just the expectations for a show at that time are likely far lower than one in the front half of the block.

Anyways, just caught my eye, thought I'd pass along.

Another quick thought: Since he mentioned 12-3, I wonder if 11:30 is still not set in stone for the block.

Ouch. Things are looking mostly down. Dandy is still doing well enough, which is great. And regular Naruto is definitely doing better than FLCL. I will never understand the Nielsen families of America. It's sad that Inuyasha continues going down. I guess people really don't like it.

I do not think people who watch Toonami also watch the Olympics.

I plan on watching, but only a few of the events whenever I can catch them.

The numbers still look really good for both cable and the timeslots, even if everything looks down.

I think they are waiting and seeing on how well Dandy performs there and see if is sticks. Also, it may have to do with that being around the time you begin seeing a larger fall off due to viewers turning off and going to bed.

I remember when Adult Swim used to start at 11 pm.

Then it bumped up to 10 pm.

Then 9 pm.

Now, 8?

That FOX rerun money must be good. >.> And we all know Toonami had to play a big part in this expansion, of course.

Clearly the pacing of it just being on for 30 minutes is bad and needs to be remedied
