Well it's technically a series written for kids and teens. It runs in a Shonen magazine.
Shonen series are usually piss-poor when it comes to romance

It's meant to measure the interactions between female characters. It fails if two women talk about men.
What most people don't get is that it was written as a joke but somehow it caught on

A) Even as a teenager I knew this wasn't how shit was supposed to go down though.

B) It fails if two+ of women in a group never talk about anything but men - as in they have no function or role in the narrative divorced from men. They are allowed to talk about men of course, they just have to be able to talk about anything else at some/most points
