The lineup next week has me hyped.

As for IBO in particular though I'm feeling apathetic.
Everbody is yelling "GUNDAMU!!" and saying this show is strong so I hope it wins me over.

Friend just told me "Legends of the Dark King" is now on Amazon Prime Video. Seems to be a FotNS spin-off focusing on Raoh, the villain of the series.

Only 13 episodes, but should be worth watching, right?

He won clean over the villainous Orochimaru Styles.

You reminded me of how anti-climactic that was and how hard Orochimaru jobbed. But then I
remembered that he fucking does some Voldemort shit to his soul with the curse mark and somehow revives himself through Anko and then gets away with everything he did at the end of the series with no repercussions.

Forgiveness truly is one of the big themes of the series.
Pretty much no one gets what is coming to them.

So, I finally sent my long-winded asking of Bigot Minority "Best" Friend to not be a bigot in my presence ever again in a form of a digital letter. *sigh*

Jason Wishnov described Virtue's Last Reward as Lost but actually keeps it's promises; is that true?

I mean, kinda. It is the middle game of a trilogy though.

I love Iron-Blooded Orphans, but I have a feeling all the folks who grew up on Wing are going to hate it.

It's a very slow and introspective show with huge breaks between action set pieces and a couple weak arcs in the middle. I think as a character study it works well and the action that's there is really strong, but it won't be for everyone.

oh my god.

Space Patrol Luluco just had a crossover episode with Sex & Violence With Machspeed after having episodes dedicated to "planets" based on Kill la Kill & Little Witch Academia.

Trigger must've had so much fun with this series. Certainly much more enjoyable than Ninja Slayer.

You guys set off the Gundam Wing disrespect signal. It's spotty in places, but it's actually pretty good! Not great, just good. Early parts are pretty rough...

FWIW, I consider IBO as basically halfway between Star Wars and Gundam.

Gundam Wing is terrible all the way through. Bad story, bad and extremely dumb political lecturing throughout, abysmal pacing, bad cast outside of Duo and Trieze. Mech design and Endless Waltz being so gorgeous are its only strong suits.

Glory of the Losers, on the other hand, is actually taking that mess and making it decent. I wouldn't mind seeing Sunrise readapt that. Katoki's mech designs would be an absolute bitch to animate, though.

Man, finals really ate into my post count this week. We ever going to get an upcoming banner for FLCL S2?

Tell me, Cheesehead...

Do you like Relena and Qatre's character and what they do?
Relena's alright, eventually. Portrayed as completely insane in the early part of the series though. I pretend that this was intentional.

Quatre is super generic, apart from when he loses his mind for a little bit in the middle of the series. Which is sloppy, and leads to one of the objectively biggest problems with the story (both he and Treize are able to build these super Gundams at the drop of a hat, why does no one else?)

But sometimes you just have to let a silly premise ride. I love the cast in general, basically everyone is worth rooting for. Except Wu Fei.

(I think it's better to view GW as fantasy than sci-fi)

Well, I don't really agree with much of that, but we'll have to agree to disagree.

What I've read of Glory of the Losers struck me as extremely similar. Which (obviously) I don't think is a bad thing, since I like the original series.

A new topic already, after last night was only a marathon? Well, whatever (just surprised that there was that much activity).

Don't really care about Gundam outside of Wing and G (the latter which I'm questioning has aged as well as I would've thought), but I'll still watch the new one.

G is a bit overhyped, but it's aged pretty well all things considered. Much better than Wing. Only thing Wing has that really has aged excellently is Endless Waltz's animation.

As a huge gundam fan, just watch Turn A and then you're probably good forever.

I need that remaster so badly. I swear to god if someone doesn't bring it over...

Bandai has been pretty protective of their Blu-Ray releases for fear of reverse importation. They might put out new G Gundam DVDs, but the Blu-Rays will take a while if they come at all.

If Sunrise actually goes all out and totally adapts Gundam The Origin, that's going to be the best Gundam by miles. That manga is legitimately incredible.

So what you're saying is I need to get a red cloak and go hunt down Kyoji myself...

Well, had fun at the Con this weekend. Bought my first Wall scroll in a while:

322_1.jpg

And made steps towards actually properly owning Ranma 1/2. I'll have almost half the series now, wewt!

There were a lot of SAO people there. I saw none of them, lol. I kinda wish I got to see Aya Hirano in person too, just because, but nope! (A lot of the JP guest left before the closing ceremonies too, I normally at LEAST get to see a few there, even if not over the rest of the weekend.)

Saw the Lupin vs Detective Conan TV special (which made me come back home and watch the movie on Hulu), which I personally felt was an excellent mesh of the 2 series. They played things out in a different way than I'd have expected at times, and made comparisons and jokes at each other's expense at a more-than-surface level, which felt really nice. Fujiko is always a babe, sure, but it's much more evident when you have people drawn to be teens, or more in the Conan-style around her. This is an effect I liked for the whole movie; everyone felt very unique, and the Lupin group felt fantastically shown to be experienced and worthy of all the praise they normally get from their adversaries.

I probably should have entered something in the Art Auction... I tried once years ago, entering a print, and it basically did nothing, lol. I wish I could make a wall scroll out of my Toonami Space Dandy stuff, I think that'd actually look decent, though it might need a lot of touchups for high resolution printing.

Spent a lot of time in the game room, playing Darkstalkers, Wake Waku 7, Fist of the North Star, some Puyo, Windjammers, SVC CHAOS?, Astal, the Bomberman Puzzle game, and some other things here or there, all on wonderful arcade cabinets. It kinda sucks that I only say Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax and UNIEL towards the end. And I, of course, wanted more KoF, never caught any version once in there. Just Mark of the Wolves, which I did have fun with.

There's always SOMETHING I miss out on doing, but I got a good mix in, overall. The focus has changed so much since I originally started to go to these things! For a solid example, I used to only be able to get many items, especially Pocky from the yearly convention romp. Now, there were people giving out free samples of HI-CHEW, (who looked to be directly from the Asian offices), and after handing them over, they proudly stated "AVAILABLE AT WAL-MART!" (which I actually already knew, heh).

Things just aren't as exclusive as they used to be. Even the items like the few Laserdisc I saw, or the Band Of Fighters 2 SNK music disk, could be obtained in various online or even local places, for similar (or MUCH cheaper!) prices. When you find the actually rare items (Cels, Old classic artbooks, Kimagure Orange Road TV series collection DVDs by AnimEgo), you'll have to suddenly pay out the nose (wohoo $300!+). A lot of the fun is getting to see things I didn't know existed now, in person, so I can get them later at better prices, now.

Orochimaru stole Kane's and Undertaker's souls, but then lost to Sasuke at Survivor Series.

He himself points out that he can't be Musashi, because Musashi was from hundreds of years before that time, though. I'm guessing that was a joke toward audience members who were expecting him to be Musashi, forgetting about the time difference.

Also his name was Johnny.

Miyamoto Musashi was still alive during the events of Samurai Champloo. Sorta. Champloo takes things from the Edo period at random but a lot of it occurs during the era that Musashi was still alive.

The point of Johnny is that you can't be sure if he's serious, not that he can't be Musashi. He very well could have been a fictionalized Musashi in the show but we'll never know for sure.

I have not seen any Gundam ever. I usually gravitate more towards shows that I consider "fun", which means they contain light-hearted comedy mixed with drama, etc. So, pure drama shows are a tougher sell to me. That's not to say I never like them as I did enjoy parts of Attack on Titan.
