Well, had fun at the Con this weekend. Bought my first Wall scroll in a while:
And made steps towards actually properly owning Ranma 1/2. I'll have almost half the series now, wewt!
There were a lot of SAO people there. I saw none of them, lol. I kinda wish I got to see Aya Hirano in person too, just because, but nope! (A lot of the JP guest left before the closing ceremonies too, I normally at LEAST get to see a few there, even if not over the rest of the weekend.)
Saw the Lupin vs Detective Conan TV special (which made me come back home and watch the movie on Hulu), which I personally felt was an excellent mesh of the 2 series. They played things out in a different way than I'd have expected at times, and made comparisons and jokes at each other's expense at a more-than-surface level, which felt really nice. Fujiko is always a babe, sure, but it's much more evident when you have people drawn to be teens, or more in the Conan-style around her. This is an effect I liked for the whole movie; everyone felt very unique, and the Lupin group felt fantastically shown to be experienced and worthy of all the praise they normally get from their adversaries.
I probably should have entered something in the Art Auction... I tried once years ago, entering a print, and it basically did nothing, lol. I wish I could make a wall scroll out of my Toonami Space Dandy stuff, I think that'd actually look decent, though it might need a lot of touchups for high resolution printing.
Spent a lot of time in the game room, playing Darkstalkers, Wake Waku 7, Fist of the North Star, some Puyo, Windjammers, SVC CHAOS?, Astal, the Bomberman Puzzle game, and some other things here or there, all on wonderful arcade cabinets. It kinda sucks that I only say Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax and UNIEL towards the end. And I, of course, wanted more KoF, never caught any version once in there. Just Mark of the Wolves, which I did have fun with.
There's always SOMETHING I miss out on doing, but I got a good mix in, overall. The focus has changed so much since I originally started to go to these things! For a solid example, I used to only be able to get many items, especially Pocky from the yearly convention romp. Now, there were people giving out free samples of HI-CHEW, (who looked to be directly from the Asian offices), and after handing them over, they proudly stated "AVAILABLE AT WAL-MART!" (which I actually already knew, heh).
Things just aren't as exclusive as they used to be. Even the items like the few Laserdisc I saw, or the Band Of Fighters 2 SNK music disk, could be obtained in various online or even local places, for similar (or MUCH cheaper!) prices. When you find the actually rare items (Cels, Old classic artbooks, Kimagure Orange Road TV series collection DVDs by AnimEgo), you'll have to suddenly pay out the nose (wohoo $300!+). A lot of the fun is getting to see things I didn't know existed now, in person, so I can get them later at better prices, now.
