I feel like knowing very little about the Xmen comics is the best way to enjoy them.

When the Clone Saga is remember more fondly than... that story, then you know you fucked up.
It really does feel at times that there's too many hacks in comic books. At least with the big corporate books. Creator-owned stories enjoy the freedom manga writers get.

There's a fair amount of freedom these days, except when it comes to Spider-man. He's not allowed to even look at Mary Jane, let alone be in the same room with her alone, at this point.

Can't wait until the 90's kids take over Marvel and bring back Peter and MJ's marriage since that's what they grew up with. And then the kids from this generation will take over and fuck it all up over again, and it will keep going until 2099 actually does happen.
They got magically divorced a while back and the current writer is a fan of the pairing. He's spent like half his run trying to finagle them back together only to have editorial shoot it down every time, to the point where they actually carted her off to an Ironman book last year.
I mean, there's an alternate universe book where he's married and has a kid. It's pretty awesome.

Yea, it spun out of a Secret Wars story. Basically it's as close as we're going to get to the sort of stuff we should be getting in the first place.

Modern Reed is tons better than silver-age Reed. He's got like the one stable relationship in comics and no one can mess with it because Reed, Sue, and all the kids are off exploring the multiverse where no writer can touch them.

Only 616-Reed is a good guy. The rest of the Reeds either conquered their universes; turned into super-villains; or joined the Council of Reeds, left their families behind, mentally castrated their Dooms, unilaterally began making decisions on behalf of multiple universes to make them better, and died to mad Celestials angry at their interference.
You guys really should read Hickman's Fantastic Four run, shit was crazy.
Actually it has because she's no longer available to appear in any books. Editorial literally took them off the table after Secret Wars until someone could come up with a story worthy of bringing them back.
Clone Saga was a great idea. A great idea that would never work because the fans would never accept it. Then they kept extending it out further and further, and when they finally ended it they did it by doing the one thing they should never ever do, and ever since then every major thing to go wrong with 616 Spider-Man has led back to that moment. It's staggering in scope and the only thing that even remotely sniffs at it is the course of the X-Men since House of M, or maybe the end of Grant Morrison's run on New X-Men. It really depends on where you want to throw your hat on the matter. I'd go House of M every time. It basically ruined all future Marvel events involving Mutants.

I haven't gotten around to reading it (though I should), but I really like Mike Mignola's art.
Was more talking about books outside of Big Two but yeah you should if you are you probably need to post a suggestion in the comics thread and wait for the biggest Mignola fanboy on the thread to reply and give suggestions
I learned early on to just follow creators and nothing else
Too simplistic for me and comics.
Some really talented people just don't understand how certain characters tick. Other times really great writers only get short runs because the character is so lame that no one buys after issue 3 and the thing gets cancelled before it gets anywhere.
Characters matter.
